Attachment The character design of Tiki appears to be based on Tinker Bell from Disney's 1953 animated film adaptation of the J.M. Barrie stage play "Peter Pan". Aside from general similarities like them both having blonde hair in a bun, an hourglass figure and a green strapless dress with triangles cut out across the hemline, the strongest similarity connecting them is in the form of a logo animation that appears when starting up the game and in several trailers, showing Tiki swiping fairy dust over the Atlus logo to reveal it. This appears to be a reference to a recurring transitional animation commonly used by Disney where Tinker Bell sprinkles or shoots pixie dust at something (oftentimes the Disney logo) to enhance it or cut to something else.

This could be a coincidence, but when the game first launched, the Void (where Cho'Gath is from) was framed more like the world's equivalent to Hell, and the Violator is a minion of Hell.

Attachment In 2013, a Kingdom Hearts online mobile game was in development that never saw the light of day. It was to be called "Kingdom Hearts: Fragmented Keys". The game was rumored to feature customizable avatar characters (like Union Cross). It would also have been in 3D instead of Union cross' 2D art style. Most interesting and exciting of all though (gathered from concept art no less) was the Disney world list as the game would feature returning worlds like: Agrabah, Wonderland, a Lilo & Stitch Hawaii world, Space Paranoids/The Grid, London/Neverland, and Dwarf Woodlands. It also included worlds that didn't appear in the series yet but would appear in later games like Union Cross and Kingdom Hearts III, such as: Arendell (Frozen), Kingdom of Corona (Tangled), and Niceland/Game Central Station (Wreck-It Ralph). Finally, and most shockingly, a world based on the Star Wars franchise, although this world's chronology is unknown as concept art show different conflicting eras, such as an image of characters Anakin, Obi-wan, Padme, and Master Yoda in their exact looks from Star Wars: The Clone Wars movie and series in a separatist gunship's hanger as well as a planet that looks similar to Tatooine and an anachronistic Death Star power station room. It is unknown why this game was cancelled.

The platform fighter genre has typically been thought of as having originated with the Super Smash Bros. franchise, to the point where it is common for the genre to be called "Smash Clones". However, while Smash did introduce almost all of the defining mechanics to the subgenre, such as ring-out based KOs, wavedashing, and the 3/4-way-input special move system, there are at least two titles that predate Nintendo's crossover and attempted to merge platforming with fighting gameplay - the multiplayer mode within 1991's Captain America and the Avengers for NES, and 1995's arcade title The Outfoxies. Both titles had characters with limited movepools compared to the style Smash would popularise and were lifebar-based. The Outfoxies also included damaging stage hazards and items, two mechanics popular within Smash but scantly used in other platform fighters.

Also of mention is Savage Reign, a traditional fighting game from 1995 featuring a platform gimmick, though this game has far less in common with platform fighters than The Outfoxies or Captain America, simply serving as a traditional fighting game with two planes to stand on as opposed to mobility-based platforming.

It is not known if anyone who worked on Super Smash Bros. was aware of or conciously took inspiration from these 3 games.

Attachment Hades was originally planned to be the final boss as evidenced by early concept art of the Hill of Despair showing your party facing Hades in the area instead of Necron, but Hades was instead changed to be an optional boss. There are eyes on the face of his sword and on his throne. Blinking disembodied eyes are also seen in the final battle arena, showing the connection between Hades and the original final battle. Incidentally, eyes are also a feature of many Terran structures (e.g. Pandemonium), perhaps implying a deeper connection that was lost or severed in the final cut of the game.

While no exact reason for the change was given, it is believed that Hades ultimately did not fit the theme as an end boss. Hades is based on Greek mythology as a God of death who would have wanted to bring death to everyone. Necron on the other hand is an original entity based on the Greek word for "death" that wanted to bring an end to existence itself.

Attachment According to Raww Le Klueze, global admin of the Suikosource forums, there are three unused sprites found in the PC version that appear to be part of an unused Blue Gate summon or something similar. The three sprites are supposed to appear in different spots on the screen which would explain why they are looking in different directions.

To support that idea, in the Gensou Suikoden II 108 Stars Character Guide (published only in Japan by Konami), within a section detailing a scrapped idea to summon spirits of other elements, there are a few characters resembling the three unused sprites if they were mixed together.

Attachment Dr. Starline the Platypus from the IDW Sonic the Hedgehog comic series is inspired by a glitch character from Knuckles' Chaotix - a silver, red and charcoal Knuckles recolor, known by fans as "Wechnia", but by the game itself as "**********", seemingly based on unused data for Tails. Starline's color scheme is taken directly from Wechnia, his name is a literal take on the name "**********", (or "star-line") the black streak in his fur resembles the red streaks all over Wechnia's fur, and the choice of a platypus seems to be inspired by how certain Wechnia sprites would make the bottom of his muzzle yellow and loosely resemble shading for the underside of a flat bill, alongside platypi being Australian like echidnas.

Two "Break Time" stages in Sunbaked Desert prominently incorporate music from Super Mario Sunshine: the level "Break Time! Raise The Stage" uses the track "Secret Course", while "Break Time! Bouncy Tunes" uses the track "Isle Delfino" (commonly known as the Delfino Plaza theme).

The use of music from Super Mario Sunshine appears to tie in with the subplot for Sunbaked Desert, in which Bowser Jr. hoards the region's water for himself; Sunshine was previously a water-themed game featuring Bowser Jr. as the main antagonist.

The Yo-Kai Deadcool is a parody of the Marvel Comics character Deadpool. Not only are their names, designs, and personalities similar, but three of Deadcool's preset nicknames are direct references to Deadpool. The three identifiable references being "Wade", a reference to Deadpool's real name Wade Wilson, "Ryan", a reference to Ryan Reynolds who portrays Wade Wilson/Deadpool in the live-action films, and "Mr. Cool", which appears to be a reference to a scene from the 2016 film in which the taxi driver Dopinder refers to Deadpool as "Mr. Pool". The last nickname "Rhys" is more ambiguous and does not appear to have a clear origin related to Deadpool.

Additionally, Deadcool's Japanese voice actor, Takehito Koyasu, has voiced Deadpool in other pieces of media.

In the 2/86 interview with the game's designer Masanobu Endō published in the issue of Famimaga magazine, he commented that one of the team's employees named Akira was nicknamed "Bakira", because he had a tendency to break things. This in-joke is likely a play on the kanji "爆" (baku), to explode/burst/roar. Endō then admitted he used his nickname as an inspiration for the enemies as "Bacura" enemies in Xevious, commenting:

"...my generation, the "Gundam Generation", we love to make up stupid reasons for every choice we make. Even if it's a lie. (laughs)"
