Yo! Noid
2
Attachment Unusually, the Noid's sprites in Stage 13 of Yo! Noid are marginally different from the sprites used in the rest of the game. The graphics of the Noid are stored multiple times in game's code, and the Stage 13 sprites are the first stored, meaning that this could be an early revision of the Noid's sprite that was not removed.
Cuphead
1
In "The Devil & Ms. Chalice", the final episode of the animated series "The Cuphead Show!", the last scene of the episode features the Devil's Casino in its only appearance in the show. The final shot of the series shows Cuphead, Mugman and Ms. Chalice running towards the casino, referencing the opening of the game. While not confirmed, this also implies that the show is, at least in broad strokes, a prequel to the game.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder
1
Two "Break Time" stages in Sunbaked Desert prominently incorporate music from Super Mario Sunshine: the level "Break Time! Raise The Stage" uses the track "Secret Course", while "Break Time! Bouncy Tunes" uses the track "Isle Delfino" (commonly known as the Delfino Plaza theme).

The use of music from Super Mario Sunshine appears to tie in with the subplot for Sunbaked Desert, in which Bowser Jr. hoards the region's water for himself; Sunshine was previously a water-themed game featuring Bowser Jr. as the main antagonist.

Lead the Meerkats
1
Lead the Meerkats was released in the midst of a boom in popularity for the African mongoose in the United Kingdom, started by a series of commercials for the Compare The Market insurance comparison website depicting a rivalry between the website and "Compare the Meerkat", a fake website run by Russian meerkats. This lead to a very high demand for meerkat-related merchandise, meerkat exhibits in zoos, and pet meerkats. Since Lead the Meerkats was published by UK-based Lapland Studios, it is very likely that the game was inspired by, or made to cash in on, the fad.

Attachment Early in the Pokémon franchise's life, the Poliwhirl line recieved a major push in marketing, comparable to that of series mascot Pikachu.

Mascot costumes were made of Poliwhirl for promotional events, the Pokémon Adventures manga featured Poliwhirl as one of Red's Pokémon, Poliwag was placed closely to Pikachu on the box art of Pokémon Snap, food and toy lines would near-consistently feature a member of the Poliwhirl line alongside Pikachu even when the pool of Pokémon was as limited as 3 or 4 (with exceptions primarily being ones that also lacked Pikachu), and, most famously, Poliwhirl appeared on the center of the cover of TIME Magazine's issue adressing the popularity of Pokémon.

This could be related to Poliwag being Pokémon creator Satoshi Tajiri's favourite of the original 151 Kanto species.

Untitled Goose Game
3
Shortly after the game's release, some of the game's fans began speculating on the political leanings of the human characters, who the goose antagonizes. As many of the game's fans were left-of-center, the most common theory posited that the humans were all conservatives who voted in favor of the United Kingdom's departure from the European Union. After a Twitter user sent a tweet to the game's developer House House asking if this was the case, they denied the theory, instead stating that the game took place in an alternate timeline where Britain underwent a Marxist revolution after conservative and Euroskeptic prime minister Margaret Thatcher was chased out of office by a goose, causing the Conservative Party's "irreparable decline".

In a 2019 interview with Vulture, developers Jacob Strasser and Michael McMaster stated that this story was "a joke canonical version of the world of the game," noting that many fans responded to the explanation by expressing sympathy with the human cast. The pair additionally described the goose as "chaotic neutral" (an alignment from the Dungeons & Dragons franchise) and expressed flattered amusement with fans' political interpretations of the title, stating that "Anything the left can take joy in and pride in and have a bit of fun with, we love. And if it pisses off some alt-right people, then great."

Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes
1
Attachment Within the game, there exists a model of a generic Hero class found in the training grounds in the later half of the game, and class data for an unused Hero class exists within the game that can be loaded in.

It uses the generic attacks of the 'Mercenary' Class but lacks the animations for it's class action despite having 2 meters for it, suggesting that it was meant to be a promotion for the class rather than Swordmaster being the sole promotion to Mercenary.

War Monk, Dark Flier, and Valkyrie also exist within the game's code, but they're in an extremely unfinished state as they lack a Sprite, Model, Text, and any functional abilities. They do however have Class Stat bonuses assigned to them, hinting that at one point they were considered to be brought back.

Note: it is speculated due to Holst's in-game lore and his character design that he was originally designed to canonically be in the Hero class and not the Swordmaster class like he is in the final game, this is however just speculation.

Attachment Inside the prototype Xbox version of Pac-Man World Rally, files pertaining to Snoopy from Peanuts and a vehicle for him can be found. While the initial discovery of these files left a lot of mystery over whether they were leftovers from another project or a scrapped crossover, a concept image from World Rally would emerge shortly after revealing Snoopy was indeed planned as a crossover racer.

Smart Bomb Interactive, the developers of Pac-Man World Rally, worked on the game Snoopy vs. the Red Baron around the same time, and a few shared files from that game including placeholder cutscene dialogue can also be found in Pac-Man World Rally's data.

The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog
subdirectory_arrow_right Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (Game), Sonic Origins Plus (Game)
2
The 8-bit version of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 has two endings:

• A good ending, played if the player collects all the emeralds, where Sonic and Tails run off together at night, and see a constellation in the shape of their heads in the sky.
• A bad ending, where Sonic runs alone in the night, and sees a constellation in the shape of Tails' head in the sky

Although it has never been confirmed, many fans have speculated that the bad ending is supposed to involve Tails dying at the hands of Dr. Eggman, with some even going as far as to suggest that a large star on the right of Tails' forehead is supposed to represent a gun wound. The @sonic_hedgehog Twitter account has jokingly acknowledged this theory without confirming one way or another if it is true - once in a cross-promotion for The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog and the 8-bit game's addition to Sonic Origins Plus, where it compares both games' inclusion of "a beloved character's possible demise", and in a piece of promotional artwork taking place at a carnival, where Tails gets nausea on an intense ride and his constellation can be seen above him, with the "gun wound" star being placed on his muzzle.

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl
1
Attachment Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl does not feature characters from live-action Nickelodeon series. According to Ludosity CEO Joel Nyström, this was due to the developers being unable to envision movesets for live-action characters (i.e. "I'd assume they don't feature a giant, two-ton hammer suddenly produced from your back pocket") and that many of the series did not air in Sweden. When asked about live-action content in an interview, he stated

"There are no live-action characters in our base lineup, and we are currently not looking at any for future characters either. You never know, but for now, we are focusing on cartoon characters. It fits in with the rest of the roster better, and we feel like we can go a little wilder in the moveset with them."

Despite this, a developer from Ludosity has claimed that a live-action character was considered in the form of Alex Mack from The Secret World of Alex Mack, portrayed by Larisa Oleynik, but this was shot down by Nickelodeon.

Although not explicitly stated, it could also be assumed that live-action characters were off the table for likeness costs, given that All-Star Brawl was initially unable to afford character voices, and that actors involved in Nickelodeon sitcoms have been known to frequently get into extreme scandals that end their careers.

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl does, however, feature a stage based on the game show Double Dare, and multiple aesthetic references to the iconic Nickelodeon slime which debuted in You Can't Do That on Television!

1
Attachment In the reveal trailer for Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2, a set of gameplay footage from the first installment is shown. This is notable for two reasons, one being that the footage shows off multiple characters not featured in the second game, and that one scene shows a beta version of the Wild Waterfall stage with a smaller waterfall and different colors for the Thornberrys' ComVee. This would lead to a theory that the Wild Waterfall footage was taken from NASB 2 and accidentally inserted into the NASB 1 section of the trailer, which if true would confirm that Lincoln Loud and Leonardo were returning.

This theory was quite easily debunked by Lincoln and Leonardo using their models from the first All-Star Brawl while everyone else got revised models, and a KO explosion effect featured in the snippet being different from one shown later in the trailer. Nigel Thornberry's character showcase would later show off a new Wild Thornberrys stage in place of Wild Waterfall, which was shortly followed by a leak showing Lincoln as an NPC cameo on the Loud Castle stage.

SpongeBob SquarePants: SpongeBob Saves the Day!
1
Attachment In Mrs. Puff's sprite sheet for SpongeBob Saves the Day!, an image can be found of an unnerving semi-realistic CGI character, internally called "Yummer". The character's unsettling design, combined with an image present in the code of Sandy's torn-up scuba suit, caused a lot of speculation about the image's potentially macabre origin. The original creator of the graphic eventually came forward and revealed that the character was simply a developer in-joke from the late 2000s used as a placeholder for a scrapped feature where an undecided character would peek from the back of one of the Krusty Krab's poles. The character's name is also not "Yummer", but rather simply "Yum", named as such because "that's the opposite of what you'd use to describe him". The torn Sandy suit was part of a puzzle where SpongeBob would need to wear one of the treedome's helmets.

When Tsuyoshi Tozak, director of Bubble Bobble 4 Friends, was asked about if Bub and Bob would appear in the Super Smash Bros. franchise, they simply responded "let's skip that question". The interviewer theorized that they may have been under a non-disclosure agreement, citing a similar response when asking the developers of Cuphead about if they wanted to make a TV cartoon, which would eventually happen, but come the end of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's DLC cycle, Bubble Bobble content did not appear in any form, meaning that Tozak was likely indifferent on Smash rather than under NDA.
Yo-kai Watch 3
1
The Yo-Kai Deadcool is a parody of the Marvel Comics character Deadpool. Not only are their names, designs, and personalities similar, but three of Deadcool's preset nicknames are direct references to Deadpool. The three identifiable references being "Wade", a reference to Deadpool's real name Wade Wilson, "Ryan", a reference to Ryan Reynolds who portrays Wade Wilson/Deadpool in the live-action films, and "Mr. Cool", which appears to be a reference to a scene from the 2016 film in which the taxi driver Dopinder refers to Deadpool as "Mr. Pool". The last nickname "Rhys" is more ambiguous and does not appear to have a clear origin related to Deadpool.

Additionally, Deadcool's Japanese voice actor, Takehito Koyasu, has voiced Deadpool in other pieces of media.

1
The Pop'n Music songs "Dance to Blue (Respect Style)" and "Mychronicle", along with the Sound Voltex song "GERBERA" were all initially credited to "BEMANI Sound Team" (Or "伊藤賢治 Remixed by BEMANI Sound Team" in the case of "Dance to Blue (Respect Style)").
These songs marked the first usages of such a moniker in BEMANI games.
It wouldn't be until December 2017 that these songs received the altered credits "伊藤賢治 Remixed by BEMANI Sound Team 'PON'", "BEMANI Sound Team 'positive MAD-crew'", and "BEMANI Sound Team 'TAG'" respectively.
Since then, all in-house BEMANI songs have been credited as BEMANI Sound Team "Artist Name".
Though no official breakdown for the BEMANI Sound Team moniker has been given, some theorize the change was either to distinguish in-house composers from commissioned artists (i.e. kors k and Ryu☆), or due to policies from a pachinko company merger with Konami, mandating reduced visibility of staff.

Donkey Kong 5: The Journey of Over Time and Space
1
There exists 5 versions of Donkey Kong 5: The Journey of Over Time and Space:

• the original version featuring Donkey Kong
Harry Boy and the Chamber of Secrets, featuring characters from Harry Potter
2003 Digitmon Sapphire featuring Digimon and Bubble Bobble characters
Super Marrio Sunshine, which is identical to Over Time and Space aside from a different title screen and an added glitch, still featuring Donkey Kong and not Mario
Digit Dinosaur 7: The Adventrue of Devildom which is identical to Digitmon aside from a different title screen, and is theorized to predate it due to having Sintax's copyright info.

Of the 3 main releases, the level layouts are closest to Super Mario Bros. in Digitmon, and least accurate in Harry Boy.
