Attachment Some of the Aparoid infected Cornerian ships that appear in Star Fox: Assault's campaign look very similar in design to its iteration of the Arwing. This is because, canonically, they actually are said to be mass produced Arwing models, according to both the official Japanese guidebook (where are they are given the fitting name of "P.A.W.N") and also the "Arwing (Assault)" trophy description in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.

Pit was first depicted with blue eyes and a laurel crown in promotional artwork for Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters, which was not released in Japan until 2012. If the eye color and crown of Pit's design in 2008's Super Smash Bros. Brawl was influenced by Of Myths and Monsters and wasn't simply a coincidence, that would make it the first and so far only instance of Super Smash Bros. referencing content from a game without any kind of Japanese release at the time within gameplay, and shared with a sticker originating from Of Myths and Monsters as the first representation of a game without a Japanese release whatsoever outside of the Chronicle (which is also technically tied with trophies in the same game from Elite Beat Agents, a heavily modified localization of Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan).

Eternights

Prior to its release, Eternights recieved many comparisons to the Persona series, primarily due to its premise of teenagers fighting supernatural enemies with social elements (i.e. an in-game calendar) incorporated into the gameplay.

Master Detective Archives: Rain Code

Kazutaka Kodaka began planning Master Detective Archives: Rain Code in 2016, while he was still working at Spike Chunsoft. It was designed to be different from the Danganronpa series, with a dark fantasy setting influenced by the works of Tim Burton. It also uses full 3D models throughout the game, as opposed to Danganronpa's blend of 3D environments and 2D characters: it does, however, still feature a similar psycho-pop aesthetic with neon colors.

• Zookeeper is based on Hana Aoi, the main deuteragonist of the series, with elements from Shiina, the main protagonist.
• Bearhead is based on Shikuma, the main antagonist of the "Vs. Circus" arc.

Attachment Hades was originally planned to be the final boss as evidenced by early concept art of the Hill of Despair showing your party facing Hades in the area instead of Necron, but Hades was instead changed to be an optional boss. There are eyes on the face of his sword and on his throne. Blinking disembodied eyes are also seen in the final battle arena, showing the connection between Hades and the original final battle. Incidentally, eyes are also a feature of many Terran structures (e.g. Pandemonium), perhaps implying a deeper connection that was lost or severed in the final cut of the game.

While no exact reason for the change was given, it is believed that Hades ultimately did not fit the theme as an end boss. Hades is based on Greek mythology as a God of death who would have wanted to bring death to everyone. Necron on the other hand is an original entity based on the Greek word for "death" that wanted to bring an end to existence itself.

In Axie Infinity, a play-to-earn NFT game revolving around breeding, training, and selling axolotl-like creatures called Axies for real money, more experienced players will rent out their Axies to less experienced players in exchange for a portion of the less experienced player's later profits. This feature contains heavy similarities to sharecropping, a real-life practice often described by its use in the United States from the Reconstruction era into the mid-20th century as a post-abolition equivalent to slavery. Due to many of the low level players taking loans coming from low-income countries such as the Philippines and Brazil, Axie Infinity has been described by some analysts as "digital colonialism".

Attachment The antagonist of the original Yakuza was voiced by Kazuhiro Nakaya, who later went on to voice Ichiban Kasuga, the protagonist of Yakuza: Like A Dragon. The two characters also have the same koi tattoo, leading fans to speculate on the parallels between both characters, but aside from their voice actors and tattoos, there are only surface-level parallels.

Attachment According to Raww Le Klueze, global admin of the Suikosource forums, there are three unused sprites found in the PC version that appear to be part of an unused Blue Gate summon or something similar. The three sprites are supposed to appear in different spots on the screen which would explain why they are looking in different directions.

To support that idea, in the Gensou Suikoden II 108 Stars Character Guide (published only in Japan by Konami), within a section detailing a scrapped idea to summon spirits of other elements, there are a few characters resembling the three unused sprites if they were mixed together.

Aside from the RMX stages that appear in the original game, Piranha Plant Pipeline is the only Tour stage absent from the Booster Course Pass. This was most likely done as a way to avoid confusion with the pre-existing Mario Kart 7 stage Piranha Plant Slide, which contains many similarities to Piranha Plant Pipeline.

Lammy's design went through four different variations that were approved and then rejected until it reached the final design influenced by the Australian pop star Natalie Imbruglia. Character designer Rodney Greenblat was "a little disappointed" that the final design strayed so far from looking like a lamb.
Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon

In a 2013 interview with Polygon, director Bryce Holliday revealed that Luigi's portrayal in the game was influenced by the 1990 British comedy series Mr. Bean. The show served as reference material for Luigi's animations and characterization, with Holliday noting parallels between Luigi and the show's title character as a "hapless fool and reluctant hero." Holliday also felt that these similarities would help audiences sympathize with Luigi, which in turn would supplement the comic relief that his reactions and mishaps provide.
Alex Kidd in Miracle World

Similarly to Donkey Kong's origins as a Popeye game, Alex Kidd in Miracle World was originally intended as a Dragon Ball game. Alex's creator, Kotaro Hayashida, said in an interview:

"Sega were planning on making a Dragon Ball game... I guess this happened long enough ago that it's okay for me to talk about this! The project began as a Dragon Ball title, not as a direct competitor to Super Mario Bros.

But when we were told we could not use the Dragon Ball licence any more, we were forced to come up with our own ideas instead. For example, when it was Dragon Ball, Goku fought with his Power Pole, but we changed that to a punch attack. It was only after we came up with the plan to restart the project as Alex Kidd in Miracle World that we starting thinking about Mario, and looking for ways in which to differentiate the title from it."

A classic Dragon Ball influence can be observed in the final game, such as Alex's laser bracelet resembling a kamehameha and the use of Janken (Rock, Paper, Scissors) in boss battles, as well as certain character and object designs with resemblance to those from Dragon Ball, and shared influences from the public domain Japanese story Journey to the West.

Attachment Dr. Starline the Platypus from the IDW Sonic the Hedgehog comic series is inspired by a glitch character from Knuckles' Chaotix - a silver, red and charcoal Knuckles recolor, known by fans as "Wechnia", but by the game itself as "**********", seemingly based on unused data for Tails. Starline's color scheme is taken directly from Wechnia, his name is a literal take on the name "**********", (or "star-line") the black streak in his fur resembles the red streaks all over Wechnia's fur, and the choice of a platypus seems to be inspired by how certain Wechnia sprites would make the bottom of his muzzle yellow and loosely resemble shading for the underside of a flat bill, alongside platypi being Australian like echidnas.

Final Fantasy XIV Online

Attachment In July 1999, the industrial metal band Powerman 5000 wrote and released the single "When Worlds Collide", which would become one of their signature songs.

On February 23, 2016, patch version 3.2 of the "Heavensward" expansion for Final Fantasy XIV Online would be released, entitled "The Gears of Change". During the Containment Bay S1T7 trial, there is a boss fight against Sephirot, the Fiend, in two phases. The first phase's music is a rearranged version of "Battle to the Death", a boss theme originating from Final Fantasy VI where Fiend first appeared, while the second phase's music was an original song entitled "Fiend", composed and arranged by Masayoshi Soken with lyrics written by Michael-Christopher Koji Fox. The same day, a thread was made on Square Enix's forums noting the similarities between "Fiend" and "When Worlds Collide".

Presumably, Powerman 5000 were informed of this and took to Facebook on February 24 to accuse the game's developers of ripping off "When Worlds Collide" while writing "Fiend", commenting:

"Really? Got to say that the level of unimaginative theft that was used in creating this music for #finalfantasyXIV is mind blowing! I mean, this is When Worlds Collide! Using something as inspiration is one thing but a straight up rip off is another! Did they really think no one would notice? […] To clarify, this is music from the game. If it was a song made by a fan, we wouldn't care."

After the story gained traction and several mixed responses were put against Square Enix and Powerman 5000, the band's frontman Spider One made another Facebook post on February 25 revealing that the band would not be taking legal action against Square Enix, while emphasizing that their original post was "Just an observation" about "a piece of music that was way too similar to be coincidence" and there was "no cry for attention or publicity", before briefly advertising their upcoming tour dates in March and April.

In response to the controversy, the game's producer/director Naoki Yoshida released a statement in the original forum thread that spurred the controversy explaining how they created "Fiend":

"Building upon the motif of Sephirot as a representation of the World Tree, to create this FINAL FANTASY XIV original track, we further incorporated story-driven themes of death and a warped obsession with life, all while utilizing a musical genre─industrial rock─which we believed would provide substantial emphasis to the message.

Industrial rock is a popular genre that can be further divided into numerous sub-genres. Countless songs from these genres have been released worldwide, and I have been made aware of an allegation regarding similarities between an existing track and the track created for the 2nd phase of Containment Bay S1T7. However, track composer Masayoshi Soken, has also stated to me that he was unaware of the track in question while working on this FINAL FANTASY track."

The Team Aqua/Magma Leader Battle theme music featured in Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald is based on the Shionchou boss battle theme music from Game Freak's Super Famicom game Bushi Seiryūden: Futari no Yūsha. The character of Vanessa in the 2023 "Five Nights at Freddy's" film appears to be a composite character with elements of Vanessa the security guard from Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach (with both the name and occupation as an officer), and Spoiler:William Afton's daughter from the games named Elizabeth (as it is revealed in the film that Vanessa is Spoiler:William's daughter).
