Silent Hill 4: The Room
subdirectory_arrow_right The Pink Panther's Passport to Peril (Game)
2
The song "Camp Chilly Wa-Wa (Day 4)" from the soundtrack to The Pink Panther's Passport to Peril, and the song "Resting Comfortably" from the soundtrack to Silent Hill 4: The Room were both constructed from the same sample pack, "Distorted Reality 1" by Spectrasonics Virtual Instruments. You can hear two samples used to make "Resting Comfortably", called "LOST HORIZON" and "TALK BOX BEATS", while listening to "Camp Chilly Wa-Wa (Day 4)".

Attachment Inside the prototype Xbox version of Pac-Man World Rally, files pertaining to Snoopy from Peanuts and a vehicle for him can be found. While the initial discovery of these files left a lot of mystery over whether they were leftovers from another project or a scrapped crossover, a concept image from World Rally would emerge shortly after revealing Snoopy was indeed planned as a crossover racer.

Smart Bomb Interactive, the developers of Pac-Man World Rally, worked on the game Snoopy vs. the Red Baron around the same time, and a few shared files from that game including placeholder cutscene dialogue can also be found in Pac-Man World Rally's data.

Fate/Grand Order
subdirectory_arrow_right Fate/Stay Night (Game), Fate (Franchise)
2
Attachment The "Fate/Unpublished Material" and "Fate/Side Material" booklets reveal an unused character for Fate/Stay Night. "Tachie", otherwise known as "Galahad", "Shielder", or "Stray Servant" was planned as an alternate Heroine Servant the player could have chosen instead of Saber. She was scrapped from the game as to keep the story manageable.

This character was also planned for the animated adaptation of Fate/Stay Night by Studio Deen, but was scrapped in favor of an adaptation of the "Fate" Route. An animated movie featuring Tachie was also considered, but also abandoned.

This unused character was later revisited and inspired the design for Mash Kyrielight, a seperate Shielder Servant and primary heroine of Fate/Grand Order.

Lies of P
2
The game being themed around The Adventures of Pinocchio was decided in order to appeal to a wider fanbase, with director Choi Ji-Won noting that the original story had a dark tone and diverse backgrounds that the staff could use. The game being set in an environment similar to Belle Époque was done to "encapsulate a city's transformation from opulence to ruin" and convey "a period of unparalleled cultural and artistic prosperity, yet severe darkness and negativity".

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite
subdirectory_arrow_right Sonic The Hedgehog (Franchise)
1
Attachment In 2017, the official Sonic the Hedgehog Twitter account posted a parody of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite's character select screen, with various characters from throughout the Sonic franchise in place of the game's playable roster. This was likely meant to poke fun at Infinite's roster, which many had described as "mediocre".
The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog
subdirectory_arrow_right Sonic Origins Plus (Game), Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (Game)
2
The 8-bit version of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 has two endings:

• A good ending, played if the player collects all the emeralds, where Sonic and Tails run off together at night, and see a constellation in the shape of their heads in the sky.
• A bad ending, where Sonic runs alone in the night, and sees a constellation in the shape of Tails' head in the sky

Although it has never been confirmed, many fans have speculated that the bad ending is supposed to involve Tails dying at the hands of Dr. Eggman, with some even going as far as to suggest that a large star on the right of Tails' forehead is supposed to represent a gun wound. The @sonic_hedgehog Twitter account has jokingly acknowledged this theory without confirming one way or another if it is true - once in a cross-promotion for The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog and the 8-bit game's addition to Sonic Origins Plus, where it compares both games' inclusion of "a beloved character's possible demise", and in a piece of promotional artwork taking place at a carnival, where Tails gets nausea on an intense ride and his constellation can be seen above him, with the "gun wound" star being placed on his muzzle.

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl
1
Attachment Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl does not feature characters from live-action Nickelodeon series. According to Ludosity CEO Joel Nyström, this was due to the developers being unable to envision movesets for live-action characters (i.e. "I'd assume they don't feature a giant, two-ton hammer suddenly produced from your back pocket") and that many of the series did not air in Sweden. When asked about live-action content in an interview, he stated

"There are no live-action characters in our base lineup, and we are currently not looking at any for future characters either. You never know, but for now, we are focusing on cartoon characters. It fits in with the rest of the roster better, and we feel like we can go a little wilder in the moveset with them."

Despite this, a developer from Ludosity has claimed that a live-action character was considered in the form of Alex Mack from The Secret World of Alex Mack, portrayed by Larisa Oleynik, but this was shot down by Nickelodeon.

Although not explicitly stated, it could also be assumed that live-action characters were off the table for likeness costs, given that All-Star Brawl was initially unable to afford character voices, and that actors involved in Nickelodeon sitcoms have been known to frequently get into extreme scandals that end their careers.

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl does, however, feature a stage based on the game show Double Dare, and multiple aesthetic references to the iconic Nickelodeon slime which debuted in You Can't Do That on Television!

Tommy Tallarico, credited composer for the "Molten Mine", "The Cauldron", and "Great Megalith" music tracks in Sonic and the Black Knight claimed in 2022 to have been the first American to work on the Sonic the Hedgehog video game series. Even if one refuses to count external work such as localization, marketing, and multimedia adaptations, this is not true, as Americans have worked on art, programming, and music for Sonic titles as far back as the 16-bit version of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, with Tallarico having previously shown awareness in 2014 of American pop star Michael Jackson's involvement in Sonic 3 & Knuckles. In 2023, his involvement in writing the three tracks came into question when it was discovered that they contained similarities to several demos originally credited to Todd Dennis, a composer at Tommy Tallerico Studios in the 1990's, and originally written for the games Black Dawn and Adrenix.

Winnie's Hole
3
When the game was first announced in a trailer released in June 2023, it was compared to the film "Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey", which released that same year and had a similar horror-themed take on the character of Winnie-the-Pooh.

This trailer received a mixed response from critics, with some praising it, others feeling neutral, and some criticizing it for choosing to continue the recent trend of horror-themed re-imaginings of the franchise ever since it entered the public domain.

Donkey Kong 3
subdirectory_arrow_right Green House (Game), Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (Game)
1
The relationship between the protagonist of Greenhouse and Stanley from Donkey Kong 3 is ambiguous. The manual for Greenhouse - written before the release of Donkey Kong 3 - simply states the character to be named "The Fumigator", while print and TV commercials released after Donkey Kong 3 claim the character to be named Stanley, likely as a retcon of sorts to tie in with Donkey Kong 3.

Notably, Stanley is the only character from a Mario universe game that Mr. Game & Watch transforms into in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, while moves based on games such as Mario's Bombs Away and Donkey Kong Junior have him retain his appearance as the pedestrian from Fire as he did in previous Super Smash Bros. games. Additionally, Super Smash Bros. Melee's trophy description for Stanley lists his debut as Donkey Kong 3 and not Greenhouse.

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl
subdirectory_arrow_right Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 (Game)
1
Attachment In the reveal trailer for Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2, a set of gameplay footage from the first installment is shown. This is notable for two reasons, one being that the footage shows off multiple characters not featured in the second game, and that one scene shows a beta version of the Wild Waterfall stage with a smaller waterfall and different colors for the Thornberrys' ComVee. This would lead to a theory that the Wild Waterfall footage was taken from NASB 2 and accidentally inserted into the NASB 1 section of the trailer, which if true would confirm that Lincoln Loud and Leonardo were returning.

This theory was quite easily debunked by Lincoln and Leonardo using their models from the first game while everyone else got revised models, and a KO explosion effect featured in the snippet being different from one shown later in the trailer. Nigel Thornberry's character showcase would later show off a new Wild Thornberrys stage in place of Wild Waterfall, which was shortly followed by a leak showing Lincoln as an NPC cameo on the Loud Castle stage.

SpongeBob SquarePants: SpongeBob Saves the Day!
1
Attachment In Mrs. Puff's sprite sheet for SpongeBob Saves the Day!, an image can be found of an unnerving semi-realistic CGI character, internally called "Yummer". The character's unsettling design, combined with an image present in the code of Sandy's torn-up scuba suit, caused a lot of speculation about the image's potentially macabre origin. The original creator of the graphic eventually came forward and revealed that the character was simply a developer in-joke from the late 2000s used as a placeholder for a scrapped feature where an undecided character would peek from the back of one of the Krusty Krab's poles. The character's name is also not "Yummer", but rather simply "Yum", named as such because "that's the opposite of what you'd use to describe him". The torn Sandy suit was part of a puzzle where SpongeBob would need to wear one of the treedome's helmets.

subdirectory_arrow_right Bubble Bobble (Franchise)
1
When Tsuyoshi Tozak, director of Bubble Bobble 4 Friends, was asked about if Bub and Bob would appear in the Super Smash Bros. franchise, they simply responded "let's skip that question". The interviewer theorized that they may have been under a non-disclosure agreement, citing a similar response when asking Studio MDHR, the developers of Cuphead, about if they wanted to make an animated series based on their game, which did eventually happen. However, come the end of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's DLC cycle, a Bubble Bobble multimedia adaptation did not happen in any form, suggesting that Tozak was likely indifferent on the possibility rather than under NDA.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
1
In an interview with the game's music supervisor Keiji Kawamori published on the PlayStation.Blog on September 14, 2023, he was asked what he could reveal about the soundtrack and music for the game. He responded that because the game's world is much larger than Final Fantasy VII Remake, the team made a variety of new music to go alongside it and also expanded the variety of musical genres used, so he thought there would be a lot to enjoy. They also made many re-arrangements of classic tracks from the original Final Fantasy VII, and Kawamori hoped fans would enjoy comparing both iterations of the same song to see what's the difference. He cited the Release Date Announcement trailer's music being a re-arrangement of the Final Fantasy VII main theme as a battle music track as an example of this to give players a taste of the direction the team chose to take in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.
Yo-kai Watch 3
1
The Yo-Kai Deadcool is a parody of the Marvel Comics character Deadpool. Not only are their names, designs, and personalities similar, but three of Deadcool's preset nicknames are direct references to Deadpool. The three identifiable references being "Wade", a reference to Deadpool's real name Wade Wilson, "Ryan", a reference to Ryan Reynolds who portrays Wade Wilson/Deadpool in the live-action films, and "Mr. Cool", which appears to be a reference to a scene from the 2016 film in which the taxi driver Dopinder refers to Deadpool as "Mr. Pool". The last nickname "Rhys" is more ambiguous and does not appear to have a clear origin related to Deadpool.

Additionally, Deadcool's Japanese voice actor, Takehito Koyasu, has voiced Deadpool in other pieces of media.
