Manga artist Sui Ishida (most famous for his work on manga series "Tokyo Ghoul" and "Choujin X") was responsible for the game's lyrics, character designs, in-game illustrations, and helped work on the worldbuilding. He decided to personally write the game's lyrics because he wanted the character's songs to better reflect them. To that end, he convinced composer Akira Kosemura to work on the game after being inspired by his songs.

Mario's Mystery Meat
1
Attachment The song "Cursed Cathedral", which plays in the Spoiler:upside down level after Sponge turns into a clone of Meat was not designed with Mario's Mystery Meat in mind, nor did it originate from another game. The song predates the ROM hack by 6 years, being released by composer RednGreen in a general music pack for Super Mario World modders to use.

In JAEPO 2020, Konami unveiled two new rhythm arcade titles that were never released:

• "NEW pop'n music Welcome to Wonderland!" was created as a reboot to the long standing "pop'n music" series. The game used a different arcade cabinet with smaller buttons and a touch panel meant for new slide notes. Aesthetically, the game also utilized 3D models for the characters as opposed to 2D sprites. Both licensed songs exclusive to this cabinet, "Phantom Joke" and "少年よ我に帰れ", were added to "pop'n music peace" on August 3rd, 2020.

• "jubeat (2020)" was also meant to be a reboot, this time to the identically-named "jubeat" series. Unlike "Welcome to Wonderland", the gameplay remained identical between it and previous entries. The arcade cabinet itself was roughly 1.2X the size of previous iterations and ran at 60 fps, as opposed to 30fps. The cabinets also supported music videos and would have come in several colors. In 2021, a mobile version of jubeat released utilizing similar aesthetics to this cancelled version. 2022 saw the release of a new iteration, "jubeat Ave.", which utilized the previous arcade technology.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3

According to the game's composer Allister Brimble, when sample waveforms are changed in a Game Boy Color game's music, the console will produce a clicking noise. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3, which makes heavy use of the Game Boy Color's re-definable sample channel, had its music specifically composed so that the click would only occur to the beat of the song, making the click part of the percussion.

Attachment The credits theme to the Hummer Team bootleg version of Super Mario World on the Famicom is not taken from its SNES source material, but is rather a rearranged version of the title theme of Tagin' Dragon. Space Cadet: 3D Pinball was a demo for a game called Full Tilt! Pinball. Full Tilt! Pinball had two extra boards compared to 3D Pinball, with the main differences in Full Tilt's Space Cadet board specifically being an expanded soundtrack, a more realisitc CGI side-art as opposed to the Buzz Lightyear-esque 2D cartoon art, and a multiball feature.

Attachment One of the few tracks included from Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze within the soundtrack for both Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is "Swinger Flinger". However, actually listening to the track reveals it to instead be the theme for the Bopopolis stage.

This error is not presented in the Japanese versions of these games, where the "Swinger Flinger" track is properly referred to by its Japanese name equivalent to Bopopolis, ふみふみラビリンス (Fumifumi Rabirinsu), or Stomping Labyrinth. In comparison, the actual Swinger Flinger track and stage in the Japanese version of Tropical Freeze is called バインラビリンス (Bain Rabirinsu), or Vine Labyrinth.

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Trials and Tribulations
2
During the game's first case "Turnabout Memories", defense attorney Marvin Grossberg makes several references to his hemorrhoids acting up, with one being that they are "doing the Harlem Shake". While the English localization of the game wrote in several pop culture references and memes that were popular at the time of its release in 2007, this reference to the Harlem Shake was not a reference to the 2013 viral dance since it did not exist yet, but was actually a reference to the pre-existing Harlem Shake dance that first originated in New York City in 1981. However, according to the official Ace Attorney series timeline, Trials and Tribulations takes place in 2019, and in the events of that game, the Turnabout Memories case takes place five years beforehand in 2014, which is coincidentally one year after the Harlem Shake meme went viral. This makes it plausible for unaware players to assume that Grossberg is referencing the viral dance in the time when it was relevant, unintentionally predicting the meme's popularity and ostensibly inflating the number of meme references in the English script.

Alternatively, the German translation of the game instead has Grossberg say his hemorrhoids are doing "den Ententanz", also known as the Chicken Dance, another fad dance originating from Switzerland in the 1950's.

Attachment Unlike the rest of the game's soundtrack, the introductory music is programmed to play exclusively in mono. Despite this, it features fully functional stereo mixing, which can be enabled by forcing the game to begin with one of the three Headphone modes enabled. In this configuration, the only part of the audio to remain in mono is the Game Freak logo, which would not receive a stereo version until the Generation II titles.

Attachment The Japanese and Korean releases radically alter the final boss theme, adding a second movement and raising the pitch of the French horn soundfont. This version of the music also changes the loop to start at the added portion rather than going back to the beginning of the song. The extent of these changes implies that the music was unfinished when the original international release came out.
Taiko no Tatsujin Arcade
2
On April Fools Day, 2021, Taiko no Tatsujin's Twitter Account posted a QR Code, along with a foreboding conversation between Don-Chan and Ka-Chan. By scanning this QR Code on a compatible Arcade Cabinet, the unique song "彁" (pronounced "Ka") by composer LeaF is unlocked. A harder Hidden Oni difficulty was distributed via QR Code the next year on the same day. The song is notable for a few reasons:

• "彁" is currently the only song in the game that is unlocked through scanning a QR Code; all other Codes provide cosmetic options for Don-Chan. Likewise, the song is added to a genre folder separate from the rest of the game's music, labeled as "Hidden Data", with the subtitle translating to "That's No Good".

• The name of the song technically does not exist. "彁" is a "Ghost Character", a character that exists in Unicode, but does not anywhere else. While other Ghost Characters have some sort of explanation for their existence, "彁" has no definitive source. Its pronounciation of "Ka" was provided by LeaF herself, as the character otherwise has none.

• Upon selecting the song's Hidden Oni chart, a unique transition effect plays with glitchy effects. No other song in the game has a unique animation for going from Oni to Hidden Oni difficulty.

• The Hidden Oni Chart is considered one of the hardest songs in the series. This is attributed to a heavy utilization of multiple scrolling speeds and polyrhythmic patterns. Only one individual is known to have full comboed it when it first debuted.

Star Fox Adventures
subdirectory_arrow_right Dinosaur Planet (Game)
1
Attachment Golden Plains was another of Krystal's stages in Dinosaur Planet that was cut in the transition to Star Fox Adventures. It was an open desert area that Krystal and Kyte would have to trek through in order to reach the Desert Force Point Temple. It would be home to other interests, such as the spell page for the Portal ability required to open the way into the Desert Force Point, another jetbike race, and as well as Krystal's final Krazoa shrine test, the Test of Knowledge.

Golden Plains featured a unique mechanic in that Krystal would take damage by vising this area during the day because of the extreme heat, hence why the SpellStone guardian previously encountered at CloudRunner Fortress (who appears in Star Fox Adventures under the name of "Gradabug") warns her to instead travel at night when the sun is gone.

Golden Plains was removed in the final Star Fox Adventures, but some of its elements would remain: the Desert Force Point Temple was reworked into the Ocean Force Point Temple and would be now accessed through Cape Claw. The Ocean Force Point would even inherent Golden Plain's original background music. The Test of Knowledge would be moved over to the top of the temple in the Walled City and fittingly enough would be Fox's final true Krazoa test, although one more was planned in place of the General Scales "boss fight" in Krazoa Palace.

Attachment One of Krystal's many areas from Dinosaur Planet that got scrapped in the transition to Star Fox Adventures was Discovery Falls, which consisted of a massive series of waterfalls and hidden caves. This was the first area that Krystal was meant to visit after rescuing Princess Kyte from the SharpClaw within Cape Claw, and was also home to her first Krazoa shrine test, the Test of Combat. Other notable characters encountered here include a member of the HighTop tribe (a race of sauropods), a friendly SharpClaw that teaches Krystal the Foodbag mechanic, and a mysterious mole creature that Krystal must feed in order to to help her dig additional tunnels within one of the caverns. This mole creature, internally referred to as "DFmole" in the game files, has been affectionately named "Capy" (short for "capybara") by some within the Dinosaur Planet community. This area was also where Krystal would eventually acquire an artifact of the Krazoa that would let her access more areas previously barred off in Cape Claw.

As mentioned before, this area would be scrapped entirely in the final Star Fox Adventures game, but some elements of it would live on elsewhere, namely the Test of Combat (which now exists in Moon Mountain Pass, fittingly as Fox's first test) and its background music, which now plays in Cape Claw, and was also remixed in romantic saxophone form as Krystal's theme.

Alan Wake II
1
During the mission "Initiation 4" (also known as "We Sing"), Alan goes through a surreal set while his psyche Mr. Door and other characters sing "Herald of Darkness", a musical summarizing Alan's story up to that point. Notably, the music for this sequence was provided by Poets of the Fall as the fictional band "The Old Gods of Asgard". According to director Sam Lake, the idea was inspired by both the first Alan Wake's concert standoff and the Ashtray Maze level from Control, both of which were set to Poets of the Fall's music. Lake knew that both Michael Porretta and David Harewood (the actors behind Alan Wake and Mr. Door, respectively) could sing, and Poets of the Fall helped with the choreography.

During development, however, developers questioned the need of the musical sequence due to both the strangeness of the sequence in a horror game and the difficulties that came with pulling it off. Despite this, Lake insisted that the sequence be kept. The sequence proved to be highly popular, so much so that "Herald of Darkness" was performed live at The Game Awards 2023 by Poets of the Fall, with Ikka Villi, Matthew Porretta, David Harewood, and Sam Lake all reprising their roles from the game during the performance.

subdirectory_arrow_right Dinosaur Planet (Game)

Attachment In the E3 2002 Kiosk version of Star Fox Adventures, CloudRunner Fortress contains a handful of elements from the Dinosaur Planet version that got scrapped in the final game, some of these being:

• The level is set on a stormy night in this version of the game, just like in Dinosaur Planet. The weather changes to daytime in the later areas of the fortress after Fox is captured.

• Certain sections of the stage use the "Sound Test 09" and "Sound Test 28" music tracks which go unused in the final version of Star Fox Adventures outside of the jukebox. Both music tracks were originally composed for Dinosaur Planet, and one of which is played while Krystal makes her approach into its version of CloudRunner Fortress.

• Interactive Krazoa-pattern-framed info screens appear throughout the fortress, which are also in the N64 version. In Dinosaur Planet, these info screens would provide advice and also occasional lore, one of which mentioning the Kamerian Dragon, which the CloudRunners thank for providing their wealth.

Curiously, the demo contains an unused map of the interior of General Scales' galleon separate from the one used during the intro. Its internal name is "insidegal"; Dinosaur Planet also has this map and it can be visited while the galleon is docked at the back of CloudRunner Frotress, so it's possible General Scales' galleon was at one point planned to appear here in Adventures, too. Hidden warp zone objects exist floating where the lower deck doors would be positioned if the ship was docked there, even in the retail version.

Mafia: Definitive Edition
1
Mafia: Definitive Edition features two radio stations that can be played while driving vehicles, but when putting on a song, the quality will be lower and muffled and take a few seconds to be at full quality. This was to reference the technology of the 1930's when the game is set in, where most radios were made with vacuum tubes or valves and would take time to warm up for sound to properly be carried.
