Unlike the rest of the game's soundtrack, the introductory music is programmed to play exclusively in mono. Despite this, it features fully functional stereo mixing, which can be enabled by forcing the game to begin with one of the three Headphone modes enabled. In this configuration, the only part of the audio to remain in mono is the Game Freak logo, which would not receive a stereo version until the Generation II titles.
