Pizza Tower
2
Gnome Forest was originally supposed to have the player switch between Peppino and Gustavo & Brick constantly, with them being in a race to deliver more pizzas. This was scrapped in favour of a stage that almost exclusively features Gustavo & Brick so that players could more easily get used to their controls.
League of Legends
2
Attachment The character Veigar seems to be based on the Black Mages from the Final Fantasy series. This connection is further backed by one of Veigar's skins, called White Mage Veigar, which has the white and red coloring of the White Mages from the Final Fantasy series.
League of Legends
1
Attachment The skin Dark Star Cho'Gath was made in collaboration with a critically ill League of Legends player named Bryan, who met Riot Games through a partnership with the non-profit charity the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Bryan wished to "meet the creators of Riot Games, and make a skin with them." Dark Star Cho'Gath was chosen between three skin designs and inspired by Bryan's love of outer space. The skin's theme music is based on a clarinet performance from Bryan. All profits collected from the skin until July 20, 2018 were donated to various non-profit organizations around the world.

Ghostbusters
1
Ghostbusters is a modified version of an unreleased game called Car Wars. According to the game's developer David Crane in a 2010 interview, Car Wars was "a game about buying cars, tricking them out, and dueling them against other cars around a fictional city." After one month of development, Activision co-founder Gary Kitchen called and met with him to discuss making a game based on the then-upcoming Ghostbusters film to release on the same day as the film, and Crane immediately devised a way to change Car Wars into a Ghostbusters game with only minor changes and additions.
Sharknado: The Video Game
1
According to Jeff Li, the vice president of Syfy, the company's goal was to get a game based on Sharknado released either before or at the same time as the second movie, "Sharknado 2: The Second One", adding:

"We did not give the game developer a lot of time. Usually they want more than a year but here we said we've got to get a quality game out so it can ride the Sharknado 2 wave."

This is why they went with Majesco Entertainment as the licensee, as it would have taken at least two years to develop a more complex game for consoles, whereas Majesco could easily produce a casual game in the "endless runner" genre.
Beatmania IIDX 7th style

1
According to the Song Production Information provided by D.J.Amuro (aka Takayuki Ishikawa), the song "A" was originally composed for Beatmania IIDX 3rd Style. However, the song was shelved until the release of 7th Style. This was due to the song being considered too difficult for the time, relative to player skill level.

After loading up the Commodore 64 version of the game and waiting until the title screen appears, going to address 8F40 with a memory viewer will reveal a hidden developer message. Shipwrecked 64
1
The game's developer Squeaks D'Corgeh has openly expressed disdain towards the "mascot horror" genre, claiming that most games in the genre are bad and expressing disappointment towards "genuinely good ideas" being wasted, particularly highlighting that many games primarily use the same gameplay loop. In that regard, when making Shipwrecked 64, he wanted to prove that there was more that could be done with the formula, and he claimed that he didn't want to hold back on anything, stating "I either go all the way, or I just don't go at all."
Antonball Deluxe
subdirectory_arrow_right Summitsphere (Company)
1
Developers at Summitsphere are known to use Fixed Rilla Roo from Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled as a personal in-joke, referring to anything in an in-development game that is revised, even if it's simply an improvement and not a fix, as "FIXED (blank)". This is most likely the inspiration for Fixed Gold Evil Baby Paul (Shiny)'s name in Antonball Deluxe.
Super Danganronpa Another 2 ~The Moon of Hope and Sun of Despair~
1
During Chapter 1's development, LINUJ debated between having either Spoiler:Shobai or Yuri be the first victim. For this, he had two ideas as to where the story would go: one was the story that was ultimately written, where Spoiler:Yuri is the victim, and the other (where Spoiler:Shobai is the victim) would have it so that Spoiler:only his avatar dies, and he would reappear in the real world during the last chapter. LINUJ compared the latter idea to a "dark side that pretends to leave and then reappears later," using Spoiler:Mukuro's death and reappearance in Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc as an example. The idea was ultimately scrapped for a variety of reasons, namely due to personality changes between the two and the fact that Spoiler:Shobai needed to be alive in order to solve the Chapter 3 trial.
DK: King of Swing
1
Attachment The development of DK: King of Swing began in the summer of 2003, with the development team at Paon exploring ideas for new control concepts. While experimenting with the Game Boy Advance's L and R buttons, they came up with the idea that pressing the L button will let the character grab with the left hand, and pressing the R button will do the same but with the right hand. The team was also influenced by free climbing becoming a popular sport around that time.

It was Toshiharu Izuno of Nintendo that proposed the team to utilize the Donkey Kong character license for the game. At first, it was originally planned to use original characters, but the decision to use the Donkey Kong IP was done to give the project more global appeal.
Donkey Kong Barrel Blast
2
Attachment The final designs for the new Kremling characters, such as Kip, Kass, Kalypso, and Kludge, were designed internally by Nintendo. Paon were the ones who originally proposed the creation of new Kremling characters, but Nintendo's in-house character management team handled the rest.

Paon's initial proposal also includes Kopter, a Kremling enemy who first appeared in Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!. While he would appear in the final game, his initial concept design is notably more closer to the original DKC3 look. The concept art also shows a redesigned Krusha, another Kremling type from the first Donkey Kong Country, who in the final game was replaced by the aforementioned Kludge.

The Callisto Protocol
subdirectory_arrow_right Striking Distance Studios (Company)
2
On January 9, 2023, a report was released by GamesIndustry.biz revealing that over 20 developers who worked on The Callisto Protocol were not included in the game's end credits, including multiple full-time developers and other key contributors. The decision to leave out these developers was described as "egregious" by one unnamed employee, while another accused the game’s developer, Striking Distance, of "playing favorites" and only crediting those that "they liked or had some sort of relationship with". The report also highlighted the intense work culture at Striking Distance with a controversy involving the studio's director Glen Schofield in September 2022, where he made a tweet about his employees working "six-seven days a week" for "12-15 hour days". At the time before the report's release, this tweet about the crunch culture at the studio was roundly criticized; it was later deleted and Schofield issued an apology, stating that the studio valued "passion and creativity, not long hours." In June 2023, an update was released for the game that added the names of over 50 previously uncredited developers to the credits, a notably higher head count than the numbers in the original report. These credits were added to the "Miscellaneous" group, which originally had only 18 names, and was also now renamed to "Additional Development".

Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin
2
According to the game's producer Tetsuya Nomura in a livestream on Square Enix's YouTube channel on January 26, 2023, he hinted that a sequel to the game was possible if word-of-mouth about the game spread through the DLC's completion and proves that it's a title that has "really resonated with everyone". However, it is important to note that Square Enix largely bases its new games on what will make money, so the odds of a sequel would still be unlikely even if it spread through word-of-mouth.

Crash Bandicoot
1
All of the enemies in Crash Bandicoot 99x were inspired by Looney Tunes side characters. Mr. Crumb was inspired by Count Bloodcount from Translyvania 6-5000, the mummy was inspired by Gossamer, the skeleton was inspired by Satan from Devil's Feud Cake, and while the developer George F. (last name unknown) did not recall the inspiration for the tree, he believed it may have been inspired by Tweety Bird's monster form from Hyde and Go Tweet.

The choice for a horror setting in the game was also inspired by Looney Tunes, particularly the compilation film Daffy Duck's Quackbusters.
Kid Icarus: Uprising
subdirectory_arrow_right Star Fox (Franchise)
1
The development for Kid Icarus: Uprising began with a vague concept of a game conceived by Masahiro Sakurai that would switch between aerial and land combat. At the recommendation of then-Nintendo president Satoru Iwata, it was decided to incorporate a pre-existing Nintendo IP onto the concept, and Sakurai would ultimately land on Kid Icarus, as he was aware of its endearing popularity in the west and a desire from fans for a new installment, especially with its protagonist, Pit, being included as a playable fighter in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

Another IP that was briefly considered was the Star Fox franchise. However, Sakurai ultimately felt that the character of Pit and his universe were more flexible and fitting for the type of game he was creating with Uprising.
Collection: Kid Icarus
2
Around 2007, Retro Studios designer Jason Behr pitched the idea of a new Kid Icarus title for the Wii to Nintendo, providing little more than an elevator pitch and some conceptual documents. When reached by Unseen64, Behr stated that the original NES title was a childhood favorite of his and a constant source of inspiration. However, Nintendo turned down the offer before it could proceed into creating test assets, as the pitch focused primarily on the idea of reviving Kid Icarus, which ran counter to Nintendo's approach of conceptualizing gameplay elements first and determining a suitable property for them second.
Super Smash Bros.
2
Attachment When looking for additional characters based on pre-existing fighters to include in the tail-end of Super Smash Bros.' development, Masahiro Sakurai had considered including Clefairy from the Pokémon series as a derivative of Kirby's skeleton. Ultimately, he chose Jigglypuff, as he felt its personality stood out more as a weaker character likely to be defeated.

Pac-Man Championship Edition is the last game in the Pac-Man series to involve series creator Toru Iwatani before his retirement, of which was announced at the Pac-Man World Championship in New York City on June 5, 2007, and was preceded with this statement:

"It gives me great joy to know that my final contributions in my corporate career were to crown the Xbox 360 Pac-Man World Champion and to leave the world with an amazing new 'Pac-Man' game for generations to enjoy."
