Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon
3
In a 2013 interview with Polygon, director Bryce Holliday revealed that Luigi's portrayal in the game was influenced by the 1990 British comedy series Mr. Bean. The show served as reference material for Luigi's animations and characterization, with Holliday noting parallels between Luigi and the show's title character as a "hapless fool and reluctant hero." Holliday also felt that these similarities would help audiences sympathize with Luigi, which in turn would supplement the comic relief that his reactions and mishaps provide.
The Invincible
1
The Invincible is based on the science fiction novel of the same name by Polish author Stanislaw Lem. The devs chose this novel to adapt because they felt the original novel was "stunningly picturesque", and that "it reads as a ready-made movie script". However, the game is not a direct adaptation of the novel; while the story is largely the same and features several returning characters, the game's main cast (including the main protagonist) are original.
Icon Pop Quiz
1
Attachment Q*bert was the only video game character to be an answer in Icon Pop Quiz prior to the video game character-themed Weekend Special. Given that he is placed between the Wreck-It Ralph characters, it is possible that the developers of Icon Pop Quiz may not have been familiar with the game and believed it was made up for Ralph. After the video game characters Weekend Special, Chun-Li from Street Fighter and Morrigan from Darkstalkers would appear on the main Characters icon list.

Star Fox Adventures
subdirectory_arrow_right Dinosaur Planet (Game)
1
Attachment Dinosaur Planet was originally meant to have eight collectible Krazoa spirits, four for Sabre and four for Krystal, and each of these spirits would be obtained by each character finding various Krazoa shrines found throughout their respective maps, each containing a challenge or trial testing their abilities or even character. Sabre would partake in the Tests of Strength, Skill, Magic and Sacrifice while Krystal would partake in the Tests of Combat, Character, Fear and Knowledge.

In the final Star Fox Adventures game, this was cut down to only six Krazoa spirits and shrines for Fox to find, with only five of them even being proper tests, those being the Tests of Skill (renamed to Observation), Combat, Fear, Strength and Knowledge. The final "test" is a rather anti-climatic "boss fight" with General Scales, which is interrupted by Andross forcing Scales to hand over the last Krazoa spirit. Unused voice clips and also hints found within the 2002 E3 SFA kiosk, as well as comments from SFA developers on Rare's scribes, indicate that the dev team planned on General Scales having a true boss fight: essentially a rematch against his flying galleon like in the game's prologue, though instead of playing as Krystal flying on the CloudRunner, it'd likely would have been Fox in his Arwing.

As such, looking at internal files for SFA (as well as its E3 2002 kiosk), Rare had also intended on there being one final true test: the Test of Sacrifice, which fittingly enough was Sabre's final test in Dinosaur Planet and its overall final spirit in general. In both versions of the game, it would have involved Sabre or Fox having to "sacrifice" themselves in order to save an apparition of Tricky. Unused hint texts found within the E3 2002 kiosk heavily imply that Fox would have partaken in the Test of Sacrifice right where the General Scales encounter is today, before he freed Krystal from her prison at the top of Krazoa Palace and also before fighting Andross, who he unknowingly resurrected by releasing all of the Krazoa spirits. The music track that was (as revealed by the leak Dinosaur Planet N64 ROM) intended for the Test of Sacrifice even appears as an unused track found within SFA's sound test, and there's also unused voice clips of Tricky begging Fox for help that very likely pertain to this test. Both of these indicates that this was a very late cut.

Internally, the General Scales "boss fight" shrine is referred to as "nwshrine", which adds up considering that the Test of Sacrifice was meant to be found by Sabre at the Northern Wastes (now now as SnowHorn Wastes) in Dinosaur Planet.

Attachment All in all, it would seem that the entire Star Fox chronology, at least as it was presented from Star Fox 64 to Star Fox Command, spans roughly 20 years.

Star Fox 64's whole backstory take place across 10 years, beginning with Andross' banishment to Venom and then James' death/betrayal on Venom five years later, and the events of Star Fox 64 taking place another five years later after that. The Japan-only "Farewell Beloved Falco" Manga, the canonical manga follow up to Star Fox 64 and prelude to Star Fox Adventures, would take place four years later, and SFA would take place another four years later after that. Star Fox Assault takes place one year after the events of SFA, and Star Fox Command was said to take place a vague 2-3 years after the events of Assault. This would amount to overall roughly 21-22 years.

Star Fox Command
1
Attachment The "Curse of Pigma" ending sees Fox and Falco head to a restaurant on the former's home planet of Papetoon to cope with their losses to their rivals, Star Wolf. The English text claims that Fox "lived as one already dead, barely eating or sleeping".

Looking at the Japanese script however, reveals a slightly different story:

ウルフ達にすべてを奪われた
気分だった ファルコの慰めも
空しく 次々と出される料理を
泣きながら食べ続けた
しかしファルコの意外な一言で
彼らの運命は大きく変わる

A direct translation of this into English would be:

It felt as if Star Wolf had taken everything from him. Falco's attempts to console him fell upon deaf ears, and he tearfully continued to eat while dish after dish of food was being brought to the table. However, an unexpected comment from Falco would dramatically alter their destinies.

The original Japanese text effectively states the opposite of the English translation: Fox went on an eating binge while crying to cope with his losses to Wolf. This lines up more with the ending illustrations provided, which show Fox crying and eating at the same time.

The Star Fox 64 Official Player's Guide renames it as "Kani" and claims that prior to Zoness' devastation, it was a favored delicacy in Zoness restaurants.

Attachment The Star Fox 64 Official Player's Guide gives Aquas' boss Bacoon a very different backstory from the official Japanese guidebook. The latter says that Bacoon is simply just a bioweapon made by Andross, but the former gives it a more elaborate background, claiming that it was an ancient monster that was jealous of the ancient civilization and their temples/islands above the ocean's surface, and overtime it learned how to control the other aquatic lifeforms within Aquas' oceans, such as the explosive Starfish, which were then commanded by Bacoon to migrate to the ice cap and detonate, resulting in the polar cap being melted and all of the islands submerged into the sea forever, essentially explaining the ancient undersea ruins throughout the Aquas stage.

Attachment Prior to his days as Star Fox's ace pilot, Falco Lombardi was originally a member of a space gang known as "FREE AS A BIRD". Katt Monroe was part of this gang as well. In a 2011 Nintendo Dream interview, Takaya Imamura revealed that when Fox was forming his new Star Fox team in the wake of James' death, he heard stories about how good a pilot Falco was as apart of FREE AS A BIRD, and visited him multiple times to try to convince him to join his new team, as he wanted to have an experienced partner due to still being unsure of himself as a leader.

Though originally mentioned in the background lore for the Japanese version of Star Fox 64, FREE AS A BIRD in its entirety would physically appear in "Farewell Beloved Falco", a canonical manga interquel set between Star Fox 64 and Star Fox Adventures that was never localized outside of Japan.

Attachment According to the official Japanese guidebooks for both Star Fox 64 and Star Fox Command, Meteo (or "Asteroid Belt" as it's referred to in Command) is said to represent remnants of a destroyed fifth planet from the early days of the Lylat System, which aligns with its close proximity to Corneria, the fourth planet of the Lylat System. It is said that many of the asteroids there contain highly pure metals, and their outer edges have been the site of high-quality mineral deposits, though ultimately what lies in the deepest parts of the asteroids remains unknown.

This information would also appear on the official western Star Fox 64 website and also in the Star Fox 64 Official Player's Guide, though strangely enough, the latter states that Meteo is believed to be the remnants of a ninth planet from the early days of Lylat.

1
Attachment At the beginning of Star Fox: Assault, Andrew Oikonny's rebellion is seen to be utilizing three models of humanoid mechas, which, going by the official Japanese guidebook for Star Fox: Assault, seem to be known as サルデス (Sarudesu). This can be transliterated as "Sardes".

• サルデス MK III S (this seems to be a prototype, judging by Fox's comments. It later appears infected by the Aparoids.)
• サルデス MK III DB
• サルデス MK III DG

These are actually meant to represent evolved forms of the Shogun Warriors featured near the end of Star Fox 64's Sector Y stage, who too in the Japanese version of SF64 are referred to as サルデス (Sarudesu). What is called the Shogun Lord in the English version of the game is also called サルデスII (Sarudesu II) in the Japanese version.

As サル (Saru) is the Japanese word for monkey, and デス (Desu) means death, the literal translation of the name in English should be "Monkey Death".

As of the current updated version of the game, a walkway overlooking a pier found in the southwest portion of the Financial District region contains a spot that does not have collision detection. This spot makes players fall under the world's map where they can unofficially travel under New York City. By carefully traveling northward towards Greenwich, players will come across leftover assets for an underground structure with pipes that can be web swing towards. Entering this structure and climbing up will reveal a Spoiler: leftover unused Kraven trophy room featuring a throne and the mounted heads of Rhino, Vulture, Electro, & Shocker. Star Fox Zero

Attachment Androsa, the weaponized flying fortress that appears as Star Fox Zero's first boss, is modeled after the Rafflesia arnoldii, or corpse flower, the largest (and also smelliest) known flower in the world.

This reference becomes much more clear when you consider its Japanese name, サルレシア (Sarureshia), a mashup of サル (Saru) and ラフレシア (Rafureshia), the Japanese words for Monkey and Rafflesia respectively.

Attachment One of the more enigmatic characters in Star Fox 64 is the tanuki or raccoon dog that only appears in its training mode. On the official Japanese Star Fox 64 website, Slippy reveals that his name is ヤル・デ・ポン (Yaru De Pon), and that he is the president of Space Dynamics, the manufacturers of the Arwing and other vehicles the Star Fox team utilizes in their missions.

His surname seems to reference the du Pont family (ポン spells both "Pon" and "Pont"), a wealthy American family who made their fortune selling gunpowder, and later chemicals and motor vehicles. A popular rumor is that Henry A. du Pont secretly sold gunpowder to the Confederacy during the Civil War; fittingly enough, Slippy implies that Yaru de Pon is involved in "shady weapon deals", suggesting that he might be supplying Andross' forces as well.

Yaru de Pon is also notably the only character in the original Star Fox 64 to not have any voice acting. This was addressed in its 3DS remake, Star Fox 64 3D, where he is now properly voiced by Jay Ward (who also voices Wolf O'Donnell in Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, as well as the Nintendo Switch version of Starlink: Battle for Atlas) in the English version, and Kunpei Sakamoto in the Japanese version.
