Sonic Superstars
1
As Takashi Iizuka and Naoto Ohshima were discussing the game's story, they felt they needed to introduce a new character with their own background and unique characteristics that would make them someone people could empathize with and enjoy. The character being able to fit in with the setting was of particular importance, as Iizuka recognized that previous games had a tendency to introduce new enemy characters that were very prominent and that had immediately recognizable strength/power (i.e. Infinite from Sonic Forces). For the new character, who would eventually become Trip the Sungazer, they wanted to introduce her as initially clumsy to make players question why she is supposed to be a powerful enemy.
Meat Cleaver Mutilator

1
Originally, Puppet Combo was planning on expanding Meat Cleaver Mutilator, but eventually lost interest. They ended up using the new map as part of said expansion for The Riverside Incident.
Crazy Frog Racer
1
Attachment Early screenshots for Crazy Frog Racer on Game Boy Advance show an alternative logo that does not match up with either, the other versions of the game, or the Crazy Frog logo used at the time.
Crazy Frog Racer
1
Multiple characters from the Game Boy Advance version of Crazy Frog Racer all had their names changed from development to release.

•Mafia Hen was called Mafia Chicken
•Dream Boy was called Manga Boy
•Big Elk was called Elch
•Rasta Dog was called Gangsta Dog
•Toro was called Stier "Maredo"
•Puschel was called Eichhörnchen

Punk Girl and the Crazy Frog were the only characters to keep their names.
Mappy

1
The name "Mappy" is likely derived from the early 20th century Japanese slang term "マッポ" (mappo), used in criminal circles to refer to a police officer.

God of War
2
At E3 2016, footage was shown of Atreus and Kratos crossing a bridge where they were subsequently attacked by draugrs and a troll from under said bridge. This fight does not happen at the bridge in the final version of the game and instead happens a little later into the game, but there is dialogue from Atreus after crossing that bridge that hints at this early version of the fight.
Ultimate Custom Night
1
Attachment The animatronic roster of Ultimate Custom Night changed quite a bit during development, with the major changes including:

• Changing number of animatronics to 50 from 40.
• Removing Adventure Endo-01 and Candy Cadet as playable characters.
• Adding Withered Chica, Withered Bonnie, Phantom Mangle, Phantom Freddy, Phantom Balloon Boy, Nightmare Bonnie, Nightmare, Nightmarionne, Nightmare Balloon Boy, Old Man Consequences, Funtime Foxy, Helpy, Nedd Bear, Orville Elephant, and Molten Freddy all as playable characters
• Merging Nightmare Freddy and Freddles into one slot
• Merging Bucket Bob, No. 1 Crate, and Mr. Can-Do into one slot and renaming them to "Trash and the Gang"

Attachment The character of "Ugly Sonic" in the 2022 film Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers is based on the infamous first design of Sonic the Hedgehog featured in the first trailer for his 2020 film. Voiced by Tim Robinson, Ugly Sonic acknowledges the mockery of appearance (especially his realistic humanoid teeth) and uses it to find new work.

According to the director Akiva Schaffer, the company that provided the effects for this film, MovingPictureCompany, also provided the CGI for the 2020 Sonic film, meaning for Ugly Sonic, they had to "repeat their mistakes on purpose this time."

Interestingly, Ugly Sonic wasn't originally planned to be in this cameo; Jar Jar Binks from Star Wars was initially meant to be featured as the character acknowledging his mockery.
Aconcagua
1
In a 2000 interview with the game's planner and writer Yasutaka Masuda published in the Japanese official guide, he stated that the idea for the game first originated in about 1997, when he qualified for the Sony Computer Entertainment-sponsored program "Let's play games!" (also known by its official name: Game Creator Support Program). The concept behind that program was to try and make something brand new. He thought a game like Aconcagua, which sprung from his interest in adventure novels, would be good for the program, while wondering if the average person would find something like the game interesting.
Franchise: Mario

Attachment Ever since Samantha Kelly became the voice of Peach, Toad and Toadette starting in 2007, she would always record her voice lines for Peach first whenever recording new dialogue. This is because her voice is unable to go high enough after doing the more extreme sort of voice that Toad has.
McDonald's Treasure Land Adventure
1
Attachment In prototype versions of McDonald's Treasure Land Adventure, the shops were McDonald's restaurants, and all the meters and power-ups in the game were McDonald's products. McDonald's burgers as health items in a game could be seen as endorsing them as a healthy food, so it was likely changed for the final game to avoid this perception, and while at the time Ronald McDonald was still seen holding or eating McDonald's in advertising, in later years he would be mandated against doing either. Additionally, a developer from the game has claimed that McDonald's were opposed to the collectibles because they didn't want hamburgers being left on the ground.

Mighty Goose
1
With the viral success of Untitled Goose Game, Mighty Goose developer Richard Lems considered swapping out his goose protagonist for a duck, but ultimately decided that "there's room for another goose in gaming. Maybe it's just the start of a movement."
Pizza Tower
1
Attachment The Weenie and Burger Golfer enemies are based on Peter and Mac, the protagonists of an unmade Pizza Tower predecessor called Weenie Cop.
The Night Ripper
1
Originally, the premise for the game was that the Night Ripper was going to hunt down Rachel after she witnessed him killing a prostitute. However, while it wasn't outright deleted, this scene was never added to the game.

subdirectory_arrow_right Murder House (Game)
1
On September 17, 2023, the official Dark Deception: Monsters & Mortals Twitter account revealed that there were plans for a crossover DLC pack based on the game Murder House by Puppet Combo, but that said plans fell through for unknown reasons. A pitch trailer for the collaboration was also uploaded as part of the tweet.
Cartoon Network: Punch Time Explosion
2
The title for Cartoon Network: Punch Time Explosion originated as an in-joke within Cartoon Network, being shortened from the joke title Cartoon Network: Super Fist Crazy Punch Time Explosion. The original title was Cartoon Network: Superstar Rumble, which had to be changed for unknown legal concerns.
Reckless Rufus

Reckless Rufus was originally titled Awesome Dude, but Alternative Software decided to go with the former name instead.
God of War Ragnarök

A side quest called "The Ballad of Jari and Somr" was made as a tribute to two devs that met and fell in love while working at Santa Monica Studios, Jake Snipes and Sam Handrick. This quest involves going to The Eternal Campfire to unlock it and then searching for ingredients to prepare a meal, an homage to the couples love of making meals together. The unfortunate catalyst for this addition to the game was the death of Jake Snipes in 2020.

Franchise: Donkey Kong
3
Attachment Dutch electronics company Philips planned to release a Donkey Kong game for the CD-i as part of the deal with Nintendo that led to the release of Hotel Mario, Link: The Faces of Evil, Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon, and Zelda's Adventure. The Donkey Kong game's existence was alluded to in two "Gaming Gossip" articles by Electronic Gaming Monthly as well as a trade ad which depicted Donkey Kong exiting a limousine alongside Mario, Link, and Zelda. However, more concrete evidence for the game's existence didn't emerge until former Riedel Software Productions employee Adrian Jackson-Jones included a post on his LinkedIn page stating that he programmed the engine for it (the LinkedIn post incorrectly cites Australian visual effects studio Rising Sun Pictures due to them sharing initials). This information was then brought to public attention in 2022 by the LostMediaWiki, a website which documents searches for lost or otherwise publicly unavailable works.

An investigation by Time Extension led to writer John Szczepaniak getting in contact with both Jackson-Jones and Riedel Software Productions owner Michael J. Riedel. Both parties have little memory of the Donkey Kong game due to the amount of time that passed and the company's habit of erasing their data for cancelled projects. Additionally, Jackson-Jones revealed that due to a memory disorder, he recalls little about the game other than his direct experiences programming it. Despite this, Jackson-Jones was able to confirm his involvement with the Donkey Kong game, stating that one of the biggest difficulties during development was the CD-i's memory limitations, which were circumvented by only loading in assets that would be visible on-screen, using the player's movement to determine what to put into memory.

Additional investigations by DidYouKnowGaming further revealed that the Donkey Kong CD-i game was intended to be a side-scrolling title similar to the later Donkey Kong Country series. According to an anonymous Riedel Software Productions employee who served as a lead animator for the game, development quickly stalled before June 1993, never making it past initial storyboards due to the CD-i's technical limitations and Philips' inexperience with the video game industry (contrary to Electronic Gaming Monthly's claims that it would be a sequel to the original arcade game and that it would be ready by 1994).
