Contrary to popular belief, the Pokémon franchise was not the main inspiration for Palworld. According to Pocket Pair CEO Takuro Mizobe, the game was actually based on Ark: Survival Evolved, which also had monster companions in the form of dinosaurs. Similarly, the survival mechanics and in-game tasks were inspired by Rust, and the creature designs were inspired by the Dragon Quest series.

Some gameplay ideas used in Resident Evil - such as an action-puzzle-action-puzzle structure, and a restricted inventory system - were first explored in the very tonally opposite SNES cartoon adaptation Disney's Goof Troop, which was designed by Resident Evil's director Shinji Mikami. One rumor, originally claimed online in a Kotaku article by Tim Rogers, who claimed to have been informed of the connection by an unspecified "tech genius" friend, suggests that Resident Evil is built off of Goof Troop's source code.

In Final Egg, two large stasis tubes can be found. One holds Metal Sonic, while the other holds an unknown Sonic-based robot, later referred to as Mecha Sonic Mark III by Ian Flynn. This robot has no importance in the story, however, it seems to be based heavily on the design of Mechagodzilla from the "Godzilla" franchise's Shōwa era, due to many similar parts and possible textures from the robot. This also seems to be a reference to Mecha Sonic Mark I, also known as Silver Sonic from Sonic the Hedgehog 2, whose concept art also shows similarities to Mechagodzilla.

The character Veigar seems to be based on the Black Mages from the Final Fantasy series. This connection is further backed by one of Veigar's skins, called White Mage Veigar, which has the white and red coloring of the White Mages from the Final Fantasy series.

The character Cho'Gath seems to be based off the character the Violator from the American comic book franchise "Spawn". This could be a coincidence, but when the game first launched, the Void (where Cho'Gath is from) was framed more like the world's equivalent to Hell, and the Violator is a minion of Hell.

If the Song of Healing in The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask is reversed, it sounds similar to Saria's Song from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. While this may seem unintentional, the inputs to perform each song are also reversed from each other, with Saria's Song being played by pressing Down, Right and Left, while the Song of Healing is played by pressing Left, Right and Down.

The bridge of Silver's theme in 2006's Sonic the Hedgehog, "Dreams of an Absolution", has a similarity to the original Green Hill Zone theme from 1991's Sonic the Hedgehog. Songwriter Bentley Jones has said that this was not intentional, but in retrospect he did notice it.

During the reboot of Archie's Sonic the Hedgehog comics, several characters and aspects adapted into the comic from the 1993 Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon (commonly referred to as "Sonic SatAM") were noticeably altered for a variety of factors:
• Ixis Naugus (referred to simply as Naugus in the show) was changed to "Walter Naugus". His species (which was never actually stated in the show, though the pre-reboot comics depicted him as a rhino-bat-lobster hybrid) was changed to that of a troll, with a tail being added to his design to help make him look as such, alongside his attire being updated to more resemble a warlock. Additionally, despite what was initially believed, the term "Ixis" was originally applied to Naugus' cartoon production materials, and was not invented by former writer Ken Penders. This meant it was still usable in the comics, and was later given to the deity worshipped by the troll species.
• Muttski was changed to "Ben "Mutt" Muttski", and was changed from a non-anthropomorphic dog to an anthropomorphic one. Notably, his new name was given in honor of Ben Hurst, the main writer of "Sonic SatAM" who sadly passed away in 2010.
• Snively Robotnik (referred to simply as Snively in the show) was changed to "Doctor Julian Snively", with his first name being a nod to "Sonic SatAM", as Dr. Robotnik's original name in the show was Julian. According to Ian Flynn, he is no longer related to Dr. Eggman in the reboot due to Sega's mandates not allowing other media to invent family members for the main "SegaSonic" cast. Ironically, while his half-sister Hope Kintobor was removed from the reboot, Snively inherited her position as G.U.N.'s R&D Specialist.
• Maximillian Acorn (referred to simply as "The King" in the show) was changed to "King Nigel Acorn". His name was most likely changed due to being coined by former writer Ken Penders. Notably, his new name, speech pattern and mannerisms are shared with Nigel Thornberry from the animated series "The Wild Thornberrys": Nigel was voiced by British actor Tim Curry, who also voiced the King in "Sonic SatAM".
• Nicole the Holo-Lynx's new backstory in the reboot has her being created by Dr. Ellidy in an attempt to digitize the consciousness of his dying daughter Nikki. This may have been loosely inspired by Ben Hurst's plans for the cancelled third season of "Sonic SatAM", where it would have been revealed that Nicole was originally a normal girl until she was tricked by Dr. Robotnik into having her entire personality transferred into a computer satellite.
• Although the Wolf Pack originated from "Sonic SatAM", the only member of the group who was not created by Ken Penders was their leader Lupe the Wolf, who also originated from the show. As such, when the comic was rebooted, she was the only member of the group to be carried over.
• Aside from King Acorn, the only parent of a "Sonic SatAM" character to make it into the reboot was Sabina, the mother of Dulcy the Dragon and herself a character from the show. However, while Ian Flynn did confirm that she was still Dulcy's mother in the reboot, she never actually appeared in the comic prior to its cancellation. Additionally, given that Dulcy refers to her with present tense, it's likely that Sabina is still alive in the reboot, whereas she had died in the original continuity.
Similar to Super Mario Bros. 3, Princess Peach: Showtime! was conceived as a stage play. Unlike Super Mario Bros. 3, however, this idea was revealed early on, whereas with Super Mario Bros. 3 it was simply a fan theory until 2015 when Shigeru Miyamoto confirmed it was intentional.

Many international Mario fans were confused by the design of the Angry Sun in the New Super Mario Bros. U style of Super Mario Maker 2, noticing how it appeared more stern than angry. This is due to the fact that "angry" is not part of the enemy's name in Japan, just being called "sun", meaning that anger is not an inherent part of the character and giving it a different expression would make more sense without knowledge of its localized name.
The new design of the "Angry" Sun seems to be based on pre-colonial mythology based on the sun, most particularly the Inca sun god Inti, a design inspiration that seems to exist in anthropomoprhic suns from multiple other Nintendo games such as The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Mole Mania, and Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters

In "The Indigo Disk", the second half of "The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero" DLC, a unique rock formation with a cliff can be found in the Savannah Biome just north of Crispin's battle arena. When you travel up to the edge of the cliff, a wild male Pyroar overlooking the Savannah will spawn in, and is a fixed spawn point for this specific Pokémon. This appears to be a reference to the 1994 animated film "The Lion King", where a kingdom of lions reside on Pride Rock (which this rock formation looks extremely similar to) and rule over the Pride Lands.

The Master Sword being a sword that would get pulled out from its pedestal by those chosen appears to be derived from the Arthurian Legend of Excalibur, also known as the "sword in the stone". Similar to how King Arthur was divinely chosen to be able to pull out Excalibur, Link was given the power by the Goddesses to pull out the Master Sword. Because of these similarities, the Master Sword was renamed to "Excalibur" in the French localizations of The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.

Net High's gameplay is noted to be similar to the Ace Attorney series of games in regards to its puzzle-solving, though instead of solving cases in a courtroom, the goal is to reveal the identity of people on the internet. According to an interview with XSeed, the reason the game was not localized was because most of the puzzles were based on Japanese puns and wordplay using written kanji characters that often have multiple meanings, made more difficult by the fact that a lot of the text was displayed from top to bottom rather than from left to right.

Iroha Nijiue's design was heavily inspired by Kise Yayoi from the anime series "Smile PreCure!", as LINUJ had been inspired to create original characters similar to his favorite characters in other media. When the game first began, LINUJ thought this was easy to notice due to lack of development. Iroha's crybaby personality was one of the aforementioned similarities to Kise. Her first design was directly based on Kise, but with certain changes to make her design her own. LINUJ later redesigned Iroha when coming up with ideas for the story, before Void was officially created. At the time, Iroha wore a pair of boots instead of shoes, and her skirt had a different pattern that was removed later on. When more of the story was created, LINUJ began to start the process of redesigning Iroha, as well as many other characters, coming up with a design that was closer to what her finalized design was: the only difference before she received her final design was the pattern on her socks.
LINUJ has stated that Iroha is his favorite character from the series, but had attempted to be as unbiased as possible with her involvement and fate. During Chapters 3 and 4 specifically, LINUJ began to have more fun when writing the dialogue for her during the later part of the series and eventually reached a point where he didn't think much about what she was saying, as Iroha "doesn't think about what she's saying" from his perspective. He also worried that many people wouldn't like her, but was surprised when she later began to gain popularity in the Korean and Western fandoms.

In Speed Highway, several billboards can be found depicting an unknown female character. In 2020, Satoshi Okano, a former designer at Sega who worked on Sonic Adventure, revealed that this was a scrapped spider character he designed with the prototype name "Spider Girl", and posted an old sketch of the character alongside a sketch of another scrapped character, a bat named "Fly the Vampire". In 2023, Okano posted an inked version of the original Spider Girl sketch from the same time period alongside several inked sketches from the development of Samba de Amigo. Spider Girl's appearance on the billboards in Sonic Adventure suggests that the character lasted far enough into the game's development to receive a 3D model, but the character was ultimately scrapped for unknown reasons, and this 3D model has yet to surface on its own. It's unknown what role either Spider Girl or Fly were intended to have, though fans have noted that Spider Girl has some similarities to Rouge the Bat from Sonic Adventure 2, namely that both characters have large bosoms and prominent heart-based/romantic imagery.
