Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl
subdirectory_arrow_right Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 (Game)
1
While most other characters in Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 recieved revamped movesets, Jenny's moveset is nigh identical to her moveset from the first NASB aside from inputs that didn't exist in the NASB 1 moveset template. This is due to moveset and gameplay designer Thaddeus Crews considering Jenny's moveset to be one of his favorite kits from the first game.

According to Super Mario Bros. Wonder's art director Masanobu Sato, Shigeru Miyamoto reportedly explained during the development of the first Super Mario Bros. that the reason why Goombas damage Mario when walking into them is because they bite Mario on impact. Due to graphical and hardware limitations, this could not be shown at the time. However, while Super Mario Bros. Wonder is thought to be the first game in the mainline series that shows this detail in gameplay, it's not the first game in the overall franchise to show it, as Goombas had been seen biting in earlier spin-off games like Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars.

Taz-Mania 2
subdirectory_arrow_right Taz-Mania (Game)
1
There were two Game Boy games based on Taz-Mania developed roughly around the same time, but were released in each region at different points and under different names:

• The first game Taz-Mania was released in 1994 and was released in North America under that name, but in Europe the game was renamed to Looney Tunes 2: Tasmanian Devil in Island Chase. Despite this, the game's title screen was not changed and still reads as Taz-Mania.

• The second game was released in Europe in 1993 under the name Taz-Mania to compensate for the first one being rebranded to a general Looney Tunes game and had no indication of being a second Taz-Mania game. The North American version of the game would be released as Taz-Mania 2 in 1997, long after the European version of the game and two years after the show it was based on ended.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2
2
The Game Gear version of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 has a reputation as one of the hardest installments in the Sonic franchise due to making minimal changes to already-challenging level layouts designed for the Master System's larger aspect ratio on the notoriously small Game Gear screen.

Because Sega prefers to release the Game Gear version of the game on newer hardware, and the original Master System version only being released in the Master System's most successful regions (Europe, Australia, and Brazil), most players are only familiar with the version generally considered inferior.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
3
Several of Konami's arcade beat-em-ups had a recurring feature common among other arcade games where if you wait too long to proceed to the next screen, the game will punish you for idling. In most games, such as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time, Sunset Riders, Wild West C.O.W.-Boys of Moo Mesa, and Mystic Warriors: Wrath of the Ninjas to name a few, the game will take away a life in one way or another for waiting too long. However, in some other games like The Simpsons Arcade Game and Asterix, the player will only take a select amount of damage for idling, and may not necessarily be enough to lose a life.
Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc
1
Attachment In the original console releases and PC version of the game, the fourth section of the first world The Fairy Council has a fairy say in a cutscene, "Oh my god, what is going on here?" Then later, "Oh my god, its an unspeakable atrocity!" The phrase 'Oh my god' was removed in the HD remaster for PlayStation 3 & Xbox 360. Oddly enough, in the HD remaster, the minigame Crush maintains the phrase as a reactionary on-screen quote if players manage to score 10 consecutive hit combos.

If Sonic the Hedgehog and either Peter Venkman and Abby Yates are placed together, Sonic will ask them if they could take a look at a doll that looks like his best friend Tails. This is a reference to the Tails Doll that originated from Sonic R, another game developed by Traveller's Tales.

The Tails Doll also makes a cameo in the Marble Zone of the Sonic Level Pack.

Angry Birds Seasons
subdirectory_arrow_right Angry Birds (Franchise)
2
Attachment Matilda from Angry Birds was originally designed as an unnamed male bird, but was changed to female when higher ups at Rovio realized that male birds do not lay eggs. The Valentine's Day season of Angry Birds Seasons gave Matilda a girlfriend, which, after the change, retroactively gave the unintended implication of Matilda being a lesbian, despite actually being straight and later marrying Terence in the film series. When Matilda was redesigned for the 2013 animated webseries Angry Birds Toons, she would gain the pink cheeks of her former girlfriend. Angry Birds Seasons was removed from app stores in 2019, completing the retcon of the girlfriend character. Despite this, the Angry Birds franchise would introduce LGBTQ+ side characters and support LGBTQ+ fan works in later years.

Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing
subdirectory_arrow_right Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed (Game), Sega Superstars Tennis (Game), Sega Heroes (Game), Sega Superstars (Game), The House of the Dead (Franchise)
1
Attachment The House of the Dead series, despite being featured quite prominently, has rarely been namedropped in SEGA crossover games.

In Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing, Zobio and Zobiko's character bio shortens their debut as "HOTD EX" (despite games with longer titles such as Billy Hatcher & the Giant Egg and Alex Kidd in Miracle World not being shortened).

In Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing, Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, Sega Superstars Tennis, and Sega Superstars, all instances where a House of the Dead logo would be placed are instead swapped for a logo reading Curien Mansion in the same style as the series' logo.

Sega Heroes would be the game to finally break the trend, referring to the games by their title and with their original logo.

This may be due to the series being banned in Germany.

Attachment The GameCube is unusual for its era in that early models carried an output socket for digital audio and video at a time when competing consoles exclusively outputted analog signals. The digital out port was used by the GameCube's component and D-Terminal cables to support both higher audiovisual fidelity and the ability to play games using progressive scan rather than traditional interlaced video. Because the format used, component video, is still analog, the cables required a proprietary digital-to-analog converter chip, meaning that third parties were unable to manufacture their own versions.

The component and D-Terminal cables were sold exclusively through Nintendo's website before being quickly discontinued due to a lack of demand, as few commercial televisions at the time supported component video; additionally, later models of the GameCube remove the digital out port entirely. However, the cables' high demand on secondhand markets resulted in fans creating adapters for the digital out port, using the raw signal to make the console compatible with digital HDMI cables.

Mario Party 8
1
Attachment The game is designed for a 4:3 display, with 16:9 support being limited to the title screen, menus, and credits. Because of this, the original North American and European releases feature colorful custom borders which occupy the unused screen space during 4:3 segments when playing on a 16:9 display. However, this attracted complaints from players, as the static nature of the borders risked causing screen burn-in after prolonged periods of play. Consequently, later revisions remove the borders, instead using standard black bars.

2
Attachment The original release of the game in both Japan and Scandinavia contains a track in the sound test called "Strange Memories of Death". This song is not featured anywhere else in the game, implying that whatever purpose it was written for was discarded during development. The arcade remake, Gimmick! EXACT☆MIX, would finally incorporate the song for the new continue screen.

Pong
subdirectory_arrow_right Peanuts (Franchise)
1
Attachment "Puppy Pong", a rare alternate cabinet design for Pong intended for use in non-coin-op environments such as waiting rooms or entrance-fee arcades, was originally designed after Snoopy from the Peanuts comic strip. However, the concept was rejected by Charles Schulz, leading to the creation of a generic puppy in Snoopy's place. An unthemed version titled "Dr. Pong" was also released.
Harvester
2
Attachment The Steam version of the game replaces the original disc swap screen with a new graphic depicting the game's box art on a CD. Unusually, the render does not depict a generic CD, but rather depicts a disc made by PolyGram's CD manufacturing plant in North Carolina, as indicated by the silver disc hub and "MADE IN USA" stamp. The latter specifically dates the design to 1991-1992, when the plant slowly rebranded from Philips DuPont Optical to PolyGram Manufacturing and Distribution Centers.
The Simpsons Arcade Game

The Japanese version of the game has a much more dynamic scoring system. While every defeated enemy yields one point in international releases, the Japanese release has enemies vary in points, including bosses.
Doom 3

Attachment In 2002, the alpha version of Doom 3 had been leaked online. In this alpha version, the logo used for Doom 3 looked markedly different from its final version, using stylized roman numerals like one of its predecessors Doom II: Hell on Earth.
