In an IGN article published on February 1, 2024, the game’s director Carrie Patel confirmed that players can only create human or elf characters in the game. This is unlike previous installments in the Pillars of Eternity series, which let the player choose from a number of different character races. Patel explained that this limitation is due to both story and development reasons. From a story perspective, the player in Avowed is a representative from the Aedyr Empire, which is predominantly made up of humans and elves. On the development side, Patel explained that the variation in sizes of different species in the series' universe is easier to account for in an isometric game than in a first-person game like Avowed.

Originally, the game was going to have a "Nightmare Segment", where after Bucky falls asleep, he would find himself in a strange place being hunted by a Vulture, representing his fear of death. If Bucky was caught during this sequence, he would sleep in by three hours, hindering the player's time to escape the island. It was scrapped because creator Squeaks D'Corgeh couldn't find a good gameplay loop to justify the segment's existance, and didn't want to add any filler content.

The Bombing Islands was re-developed into Charlie Blast's Territory (originally known as "Charlie Blast's Challenge") for the Nintendo 64 by Realtime Associates and game designer Scott Kim. Aside from the graphics being changed, the game notably added a four-player versus mode, complete with multiple different characters and bomb types not seen in the game's single player mode (i.e. a Freeze Bomb and a Rainbow Bomb).

When the Smiling Critters, an in-universe toy line heavily featured in Chapter 3, was first revealed on Mob Entertainment's Twitter account, the image posted featured the full line-up of characters. However, an hour after posting this, a second version of the line-up was posted, this one removing the character CatNap. The reason for this would be revealed in a video titled "CatNap Recall", which was first discovered through an elaborate ARG held by the developers to tease Chapter 3, and also serves as the intro for Chapter 3. The video depicts a news report centered around the Smiling Critters, which reveals that CatNap was removed from the toy line after parents began to report that their children had experienced violent nightmares after inhaling the scent the toy emitted.

The "X-Potato" weapon is a reference to one of Inugami Korone's livestreams of Blasphemous, in which she accidentally mispronounces the name Exposito while looking up boss names up after beating the game. It is unlocked by surviving 10 minutes while playing as Korone in a run. Its available Collabs (fusions between two weapons) are also references to Korone:

• Rap Dog (combined with Idol Song): Alludes to Korone's ability to rap, most prominently shown off when she and Nekomata Okayu sang "if..." by DA PUMP.
• MiKorone (combined with Elite Lava Bucket): A portmanteau of Inugami Korone and Sakura Miko's names, a term for streams featuring the two collaborating together.
• I'm Die, Thank You Forever (combined with Holo Bomb): References a collaboration between her and Mori Calliope played Keep Talking And Nobody Explodes, each using their non-native language (English for Korone and Japanese for Calliope). During one attempt, Korone, realizing she couldn't diffuse the bomb in time, uttered "Ah, I'm die, thank you forever" before exploding.

In 2020, hackers Gary Bowser and Max "MAXiMiLiEN" Louarn were arrested and extradited to the United States for money laundering and selling products meant to crack the Nintendo Switch's copy protection to run pirated copies of games. The two were members of Team Xecuter, a hacking group which specialized in similar measures for a large number of Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft consoles. In 2021, Bowser pled guilty on conspiracy and trafficking charges and was sentenced to 40 months in prison; Nintendo later filed a separate civil suit against him, which together with the prison sentence left him $14.5 million in debt. The company's legal department claimed during the court case that the unusually severe punishments were intended to send a chilling effect through the piracy world, intimidating would-be hackers by using Bowser's punishment as an example.

Following the case, multiple news outlets noted the irony of Gary Bowser's last name, which is shared with Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser and Mario series antagonist Bowser.

During the dialogue between Little John and Baloo as part of their Friendship Campaign "Bear Country", they both point out how they each look and sound similar to the other. This is a reference to how they were both voiced by Phil Harris in their respective films, as well as the fact that some of Little John's animations in "Robin Hood" were copied from Baloo's animations in "The Jungle Book".

On April 10, 2023, as part of his podcast "BumbleKast", writer Ian Flynn revealed that the events of Sonic Battle are only "canon to a degree", meaning that while the events of the game still took place, they happened under unspecified circumstances. Attachment In a June 1997 Nintendo Dream interview with Shigeru Miyamoto regarding Star Fox 64, when asked if he would produce a sequel, Miyamoto responded with:

"I feel like the Star Fox I aimed for is already complete. But if SF64 turns out to be a commercial success and I am asked to make another installment, we might look into enriching the strategy map and systems, or perhaps further developing 360-degree four-player battles."

Funny enough, both of these ideas would come to fruition with future titles such as Star Fox: Assault, which hugely emphasized its multiplayer battle mode, and Star Fox Command, which revisited many of the real-time strategy elements that were previously experimented with in the then-unreleased Star Fox 2.

In 2011, Next Level Games began work on a game called "Clockwerk", that never made it to the prototype stage before its cancellation. The game was about a pair of elderly Hausmeisters named Otto and Herman, who take care of "The World Clock", a magical clock tower that governs the flow of time throughout the universe. On the day before their retirement, however, a group of gremlins attack and dismantle the clock tower's innards, forcing the grumpy pair to defeat the invaders and fix the inner workings before they can finally retire. Supposedly, it was pitched to multiple companies (including Sega and Nintendo), but was ultimately cancelled when the company they had partnered with felt that the gameplay was too similar to another game they were publishing.

Attachment Donkey Konga 2 features a set of unlockable badges based on not only Donkey Kong Country characters (specifically DK, Diddy Kong, Dixie Kong, and Cranky Kong), but also other Nintendo IPs such as Mario, The Legend of Zelda and Pikmin. The Japanese version of the game also features badges of generic humans.

The international release of Donkey Konga 2 would remove the aforementioned human badges (as well as the Boo badge) and replace them with six extra Donkey Kong Country badges (Funky Kong, Kiddy Kong, Swanky Kong, Wrinkly Kong, Banana Bird, and King K. Rool). Five badges from Star Fox: Assault, another Namco developed game, were also included, featuring the Star Fox team as depicted in that game (Fox, Falco, Krystal, and Slippy) and also strangely enough, Andrew Oikonny; it's possible that this is meant to be a reference to both the Donkey Kong and Star Fox series heavily featuring ape/monkey characters.

The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles

In regards to the localization, Janet Hsu approached The Great Ace Attorney games as a story, like all other Ace Attorney titles. In particular, historical and cultural background research was needed to base the translation on, with a desire to preserve the "period feel" of the setting. For example, in regards to the Court Record's subtitle system, Hsu asked the programmers to create a new UI system that would allow her to add subtitles to pieces of evidence, rather than redoing the textures in English. This was done for the sake of preserving the flavour of the Meiji Japan setting.
The Quiet Man

Man of Action Entertainment, an American writing collective best known for creating Marvel Comics' "Big Hero 6" and several animated action shows for Cartoon Network (i.e. "Ben 10" and "Generator Rex"), helped create the story for The Quiet Man.
Final Fantasy XIV Online

According to Final Fantasy XVI's creative director/scenario writer Kazutoyo Maehiro and the game's producer Naoki Yoshida in a 2023 IGN article, in the Japanese version of the game, Chocobos are referred to as "uma" (馬), which is the Japanese word for "horse". Initially, neither Maehiro or director Hiroshi Takai considered using Chocobos in the game at all, because according to Maehiro, "when thinking about the story, the worldview, and a feeling of reality, a horse just looked better as a silhouette when straddled." Yoshida elaborated that horses fit better when building a world based on European medieval gothic fantasy:

"In reality, horses are animals that can build strong partnerships with humans. We share a long history with them. Weapons involving horses also appear more realistic. Especially with the improvement in graphics being so remarkable, there is a chance that it becomes difficult to lie or deceive viewers, in a good way, and as a result, may impair the sense of immersion. Chocobos are based on birds, which first of all means they don’t stand on four legs, and that makes them more difficult to mount. When compared with a horse it might not feel as stable to ride a Chocobo, and their wings aren’t big and strong enough to take you to the sky, either."

Despite this explanation, Yoshida still instructed the development team to include Chocobos in the game in an effort to stay faithful to the series' long-standing elements. The Japanese version also still refers to them as Chocobos and horses interchangeably. Maehiro stated that he tried to tie the Chocobos into the history of Valisthea through partnerships with its people, in an effort to create something culturally familiar. He justified this by stating that in Japanese, they "sometimes refer to a car as 'legs', or not having a car as 'having no legs'; and in the same way, the people of Valisthea refer to Chocobos as 'horses'." He subsequently implied that actual horses may exist in other regions in the game's world, but that in Valisthea, Chocobos function as their regional equivalent to actual horses. Localization director Michael-Christopher Koji Fox also stated that he decided not to refer to Chocobos as horses in the game's English translation:

"I remember seeing it in the script and remarking, 'You're saying 'horse' here. You're sure that's OK?' But Maehiro said, 'Yes, this is what we wanted to do.' In English, we never really wanted to use the word horse, because Chocobos and horses are entirely different. It just sounded weird to us in that sense. But we do use words like 'steed'; and I think 'courser' [a medieval word for a warhorse,] as well."

The terminology in the decision to refer to Chocobos as horses resulted in confused or joking reactions from Japanese players online, since this is not the first time Chocobos were referred to as horses in the series. In the original 2010 release of Final Fantasy XIV Online, the kanji characters for horse and bird (鳥 , "tori") were used together as "horsebird" (馬鳥) in the Japanese script in place of the standard katakana for Chocobo (チョコボ). At release, several other katakana terms were replaced with kanji symbols, with some terms existing in-game as written in Chinese rather than Japanese. Square Enix offered several conflicting explanations for the changes, including the need to "build atmosphere", and to consolidate terminology with the then-upcoming Chinese-language release, but these did not help as the change caused an uproar among Japanese players, resulting in Chocobo being reincorporated into the Japanese version's script in a future update. The controversy would later be referenced in the 2013 reboot of Final Fantasy XIV Online through a piece of dialogue spoken by Golden Uma Doshin, a Quest NPC found in Central Shroud as part of the limited time quest "Turn Around, Beautiful":

"Chocobo... chocobo... chocobo... Nothing but horsebirds in this stable. A sight to disturb Eastern eyes, to be sure."
