In 1999, Hasbro Interactive, the at-the-time owner of the Atari brand, lapsed the publishing rights for the Atari Jaguar, allowing hobbyists to release Jaguar games without making a licensing agreement.
With Hasbro Interactive at one point acquiring multiple studios and making increasing profits in game sales, Hasbro Interactive's former president, Tom Dusenberry, had aspirations of one day acquiring Electronic Arts.
