The pattern on Gaspen Payne's sash is modeled after the first character of his Japanese family name, "Auchi" (亜内).

Nahyuta's overall character design is very gender neutral, which was meant to suggest that Nahyuta had "transcended gender". It was therefore up to the player to decide their gender for themselves. Aspects of their appearance are based on Hinduism and Buddhism, where many of the gods and deities are genderless or share both genders.

This "genderless" design can be seen in his early concept art, before he was given broader shoulders and a more masculine face.
