The pattern on Gaspen Payne's sash is modeled after the first character of his Japanese family name, "Auchi" (亜内).

Nahyuta's overall character design is very gender neutral, which was meant to suggest that Nahyuta had "transcended gender", and the development team had originally intended for the Nahyuta's gender to be "whatever gender the player wanted him to be." This aspect of his appearance was influenced by Hinduism and Buddhism, where many of the gods and deities are genderless, share both male and female genders, or alternate between the two depending on the depiction. This "genderless" design can be seen in his early concept art, before he was given broader shoulders and a more masculine face.
