Five Nights at Candy's
0
According to Emil Macko, the remastered version of Five Nights at Candy's took the shortest amount of time to make among the original FNaC trilogy games, being made in a little under a month.
Street Fighter 6
2
On a Street Fighter 6 developer Q&A stream, the team confirmed that the idea of having JP using Bartitsu (mistakenly referred to as Baritsu) was inspired by Sherlock Holmes. Said martial art's appearances in Sherlock Holmes stories inspired the staff to create a character that fought using a cane.

Illbleed

The main antagonist of the "Toyhunter" level, Zodick the Hellhog, is an obvious parody of Sega's mascot Sonic the Hedgehog. Not only are their names and designs similar, but Zodick attacks by rolling around the arena similar to Sonic's Spin Dash move, references Sonic's iconic finger wave pose, and drops rings whenever he is damaged. On top of that, defeating him reveals that he's actually a robot, with one of the scientists controlling him being voiced by then-Sonic voice actor Ryan Drummond.
Sonic XS
2
Attachment The "miniature Sonic" sprite is based on the illustrated version of Sonic seen in the Sonic X episode "How to Catch a Hedgehog", during the sequences where Chuck Thorndyke is explaining how he intends to catch Sonic. Even the running motion is the same as featured in the episode.
person chocolatejr9 calendar_month September 4, 2023
The term "miniature Sonic" comes from the game's description, which can be found here: https://web.archive.org/web/20050129020647/http://4kids.tv/games/

Bubsy 2
1
The late Michael Berlyn, who created Bubsy, has claimed that the designer of Bubsy 2, Cyndi Kirkpatrick, vehemently hated Bubsy to the point of sticking pencils through the heads of rare promotional Bubsy dolls, hanging them from nooses and covering them in fake blood. Berlyn claimed this hatred affected the quality of the final game for him in that "the art wasn't quite right, the feeling wasn't quite right, and they did some weird things with the secondary characters, and the biplanes, you know, nothing really worked for me."

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl
1
Attachment At one point in the game's development, SpongeBob's strong dash attack was intended to involve him running with scissors. This was vetoed by Nickelodeon, with community manager Thaddeus Crews suggesting that Nickelodeon may not have wanted a character many children view as a role model partaking in an easily-imitable dangerous activity. The scissors exist in the game files, attached to SpongeBob's model, but in an untextured form with no bones for snipping.

In the final game, SpongeBob's strong dash attack was a slip and fall based on a single frame from the episode "Krabs à la Mode" that became a meme.
Sqij!
1
The ZX Spectrum release of Sqij! has been cited as one of the worst games ever made, sometimes even being referred to as the single worst video game ever made, due to a bug that renders Sqij uncontrollable unless the game is modified with the POKE button (a button on the ZX Spectrum that allowed users to modify code of software, somewhat like a built-in Game Genie). The conversion was handled by a 15-year-old named Jason Creighton, who intentionally created a lackluster version of the game expecting it to be rejected, in protest against being mistreated during development, with a particular point of contention being that he wasn't provided with the original Commodore 64 version of Sqij! to study. However, the infamous bug that rendered the game unplayable was not an intentional inclusion.
The Flintstones
1
Attachment The Flintstones on SNES contains a music track titled "Unused Song 2", a somber and atmospheric track known for being completely inappropriate for the game's tone and source material that was only accessible through the sound test. The song was not originally written for The Flintstones, but rather as a test track for Ocean's MEdit software by composer Dean Evans. It ended up in the game as filler for the sake of using up excess cartridge space, and was not at any point supposed to be used in game as anything other than a sound test track.
Hitman 3
1
Attachment Hitman 3's budget was estimated to be 155 million kr (Danish Krones), or $22 million USD, according to IO Interactive's 2021/2022 annual revenue report.

In the Bonus Mission "The Icon", there are two civilians talking by the entrance about how they want Icon to be replaced by someone else, namely Dave Bateson, instead of Dino Bosco (the target of the mission). This is in reference to the development of Hitman: Absolution and the subsequent fan backlash the casting change caused, where 47, normally voiced by David Bateson, was going to be replaced by William Mapother; the voice actor for Dino Bosco in "The Icon".

This initial casting change was at the request of Square Enix, and IO Interactive had recorded some lines in secret with Bateson to show Square Enix, and once they heard them, they relented and Bateson was brought back to play 47 in Hitman: Absolution at the very last minute.

Attachment In the Limited Edition ICO and Shadow of the Colossus Box Set for PS3, an art book titled 'Shinwa wo Tsumugu' is included. It features some interviews with members of Team ICO and among them is Junichi Hosono, who claims Ueda derived Yorda's name from the character of Hilda in the Toei film, "Horus: Prince of the Sun".

This is somewhat corroborated by the movie's presence on Ueda's shelf, which is shown in this same art book.

Hilda's character traits and arc are very different from that of Yorda, but her dynamic between the valiant Horus and the ice devil Grunwald seemed to serve as a heavy inspiration for ICO's narrative.

Shinwa wo Tsumugu art book - The quote can be found on page 45 of 52 in this PDF, in the section labelled with the number 4. I have attached a picture as well, both in Japanese as there is no official translation:

Ueda's shelf is on page 37 of 52 and 'Horus' can be seen near where the movies stop and the Xbox titles begin.
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
1
Attachment At the end of the level, "Pelennor Fields", there is a cutscene depicting the battle between the Witch King of Angmar and Eowyn where the armor and weapon of the Witch King does not match his film counterpart. His weapon being a large mace rather than a flail and his helmet having a different design entirely. This was an early alternate design that went unused in the Return of the King film. Because this game was being produced alongside the film the developers presumably had no time to change it to his final film design before launch.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder
1
The idea for the Wonder Flower came from an effort to introduce surprising elements that would challenge the player. Originally, the idea was to introduce items that would warp players to a new area, but the game's producer Takashi Tezuka didn't find it interesting, saying: "If you're still just going to warp to a different area, it's still the same. Why don’t you just change where you are right now?"
Fire Emblem: Three Houses
1
According to director Toshiyuki Kusakihara, he wrote out an extensive history for the continent of Fódlan from the beginning and containing "probably a good ten-thousand years' worth of material" just to use as reference materials for development. However, he has stated that he would not release it, and expected more inquisitive players to analyze the story and fill in the holes themselves as the developers gradually forget the material over time.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder
2
This game marks the first time that Princess Daisy is playable in a mainline Mario game on a Nintendo console after her first playable appearance in the mobile game Super Mario Run. According to Super Mario Bros. Wonder's director Shiro Mouri in a 2023 interview with Eurogamer, Daisy's inclusion was spurred from a personal family anecdote:

"[...] I have two daughters myself and when they played previous Mario titles, they would always fight over who gets to play Peach. Including Daisy will help resolve fights within my own household, and also I thought that having Daisy would be something that a lot of Mario fans would be happy with!"
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
1
Attachment EA had originally planned to add Gollum as a playable character. This ultimately did not come to fruition for the PC version and almost every console version of the game, but he was added to the GBA version of the game.

One leftover detail indicating his planned playability is an in-game results screen template with Gollum's face faded in the background, which is located in the Cheat Codes menu of the game. Every playable character in the game has a screen like this, with Gollum being the only non-playable character to have one.

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
1
The development team originally had been working on a new game engine from scratch for The Return of the King. With progress stalling about a year into development, the team turned to the engine used for EA Sports' Tiger Woods PGA Tour series, which was similarly built to craft expansive areas with large structures located throughout the world, and used it as a foundation for the engine built for The Return of the King.
Disney Infinity

Attachment There was originally going to be a Set Piece based on the set of ABC's "Good Morning America" show, which appeared in a demo at San Diego Comic Con 2013 before being scrapped for unknown reasons.

CLU, the main antagonist from the film "Tron: Legacy", was a planned playable character and boss who was scrapped very close to the game's release. A practically completed playable version of CLU was discovered in the PC version's files (this version was only missing completed UI) and can be used via modifications to the PC version. On May 20, 2016, developer Damean Lyon uploaded a short video showcasing his FX work on the playable version of the character, and revealing the character's Melee Impacts and Ground Pound Decal were developed by Darin Beaver.

Naruto: Clash of Ninja 2
1
Attachment As Eighting also devloped the Blood Roar series, they reused some animations when developing the Clash Of Ninja/Gekitou Ninja Taisen series. The most notable asset involves Shikamaru's guard animation when not against the wall. When attacked away from a wall, Shikamaru will dodge instead of doing the standard guard animation. This is a reuse of the "Perfect Dodge" asset from Bloody Roar Primal Fury/Extreme.
