Sunset Overdrive
subdirectory_arrow_right Insomniac Games (Company)
2
In the 2023 Insomniac Games ransomware data leak, a leaked financial document revealed the development costs, sales, and shares for every game Insomniac has worked on for years. Sunset Overdrive, a 2014 Xbox and PC exclusive game co-developed by Insomniac, sold 1,898,433 units for a total of $49,737,133, but only netted the company $567 in profit after costs had been divided. This is a testament to the fact that a modern game has to sell exorbitant amounts for the development studio to make back what it often invests in creating it, possibly being an indicator of why Insomniac pivoted to making games based on financially lucrative Marvel Comics properties.

Dan Slott, a comic book writer best known for his work on Marvel Comics such as "The Amazing Spider-Man", "Fantastic Four", and "Silver Surfer", wrote for two issues of Archie's "Sonic Super Special" series as part of its "Zone Wars" storyline. Despite these being his only works for the comic, he did make one notable contribution: Zonic the Zone Cop, an alternate reality version of Sonic who monitored all realities in order to maintain balance across the various Zones, though allowing other people to appear in other Zones when they are needed. In November 2022, in response to various fan questions about Zonic, Slott noted that he was willing to collaborate with Sega to bring him back, and had no protective hang-ups over the character unlike an unspecified Sonic creator who was "super protective of all the characters he's created over the years to the point where SEGA doesn't want to use ANY of them in other media" (likely referring to legal issues surrounding former writer Ken Penders).

Zoo Tycoon
2
Attachment One of the dinosaurs introduced in Zoo Tycoon's first expansion pack, Dinosaur Digs, is the Caudipteryx, a small bird-like dinosaur from Asia. In-game, it is listed as hailing from the Jurassic era, and it's even one of the dinosaurs the player is required to adopt in the "Jurassic Zoo" scenario, which hence its title, requires utilizing all of the game's Jurassic era dinosaurs to win. This is an error on Blue Fang's part, as the Caudipteryx actually hailed from the early Cretaceous period.

Dragalia Lost is notable for being the first Nintendo IP to be released on mobile devices without any prior appearance on Nintendo hardware.
Franchise: Silent Hill
2
Team Silent, the development team within Konami that made the first four games in the Silent Hill series, was not a cohesive unit of the same developers, and many of their games had different key staff who only worked on a couple of games and not the exact same team each time. After the dissolution of Team Silent during the development of Silent Hill 4: The Room, subsequent Silent Hill entries were developed by Western studios and negatively received by critics and fans alike, with some wishing for Team Silent to reunite to develop the series. The series' sound designer Akira Yamaoka expressed his stance on the possibility of a Team Silent reunion in a 2017 PC Gamer interview:

"I'm not against it, but it's hard to say because everyone has evolved, and maybe the mindset has changed as well. Also, the technology and the games industry as a whole has changed as well. Even if we got back together I'm not even sure we could do something great so it's very hard to say at the moment."

Wario World
subdirectory_arrow_right Wario (Franchise), Nintendo (Company), WarioWare (Collection)
2
Attachment www.warioworld.com was an official Nintendo website made as a hub for developers and publishers licensed to work on Nintendo hardware. The site used Wario as a mascot, something that may not seem strange as his profession is designing video games in the WarioWare series. However, the site was opened in 1997, predating WarioWare by multiple years, and also predates the Wario World game for GameCube. Instead of renaming the site to avoid confusion and using the URL for the game's US promotional site, the URL www.wario-world.com was used for the game's website, something that more than likely caused confusion for Wario fans. WarioWorld was closed in 2016, having recieved very few visual updates since the 1990s, and now redirects to a more modern and professionally designed Nintendo developer hub.

The Finals
2
The Finals has been criticized for using an A.I. text-to-speech program created by ElevenLabs to artificially generate the character's voices, rather than using traditional voice actors. In response, developer Embark Studios claimed that the generated voicework is based on a mix of professional voice actors and temporary voices from Embark employees.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
2
Attachment The Master Sword being a sword that would get pulled out from its pedestal by those chosen appears to be derived from the Arthurian Legend of Excalibur, also known as the "sword in the stone". Similar to how King Arthur was divinely chosen to be able to pull out Excalibur, Link was given the power by the Goddesses to pull out the Master Sword. Because of these similarities, the Master Sword was renamed to "Excalibur" in the French localizations of The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.

Scribblenauts Unlimited
2
Attachment In Scribblenauts Unlimited, there is a mission where the player must help a penguin wearing Maxwell's rooster hat steal a diamond. This is a reference to the Wallace & Gromit animated short film The Wrong Trousers, in which a notorious penguin criminal named Feathers McGraw attempts to steal a diamond by disguising as a rooster using a rubber glove as a hat.
War Thunder
2
Starting in 2021, War Thunder's official forums became notorious for being the center point of multiple leaks of export-restricted or regionally classified military documents from around the world detailing how various weapons and transportation equipment like tanks and fighter jets are built. The leaks are attributed to the fact that the game strives to depict the minutiae of warfare as realistically as possible, leading to players with military connections, or access to resources that are publicly available in other regions, sharing the documents on the forums in order to prove points regarding what would or would not be accurate in-game. Despite the forum moderators quickly removing these posts and issuing multiple warnings about them breaching international law, the issue became so prominent and recurring that laypeople began spreading rumors that the United States military had to start filtering out War Thunder players during the recruitment process, which American weapons contractor RTX Corporation denied.

Just Dance 2023 Edition
subdirectory_arrow_right Just Dance 2024 Edition (Game), Just Dance (Franchise)
2
Just Dance 2023 Edition introduces a character named Agent D during the game's version of "Toxic" by Britney Spears, which had previously appeared in Just Dance 2 with a different routine. Initially, she appears as an air hostess before revealing her true nature as a secret agent, battling a group of rival spies in order to save the plane's pilot, the P2 character from the song "Dragostea Din Tei" by O-Zone (who is later revealed to be her partner and possible love interest).

Just Dance 2024 Edition would expand upon her considerably via her appearance in another Britney Spears song, "Gimme More". Primarily set in her base of operations, it's revealed that Agent D had actually appeared in several past Britney Spears songs wearing disguises, specifically "Work Work" (the site manager), the original version of "Toxic" (the nurse), and the Extreme Mode version of "Circus" (the performer). Additionally, the background screens shown during the song display gameplay of other songs by Britney Spears (specifically "Womanizer", "Baby One More Time", "Oops!... I Did It Again", and "Scream & Shout"), though her roles in these songs are left unrevealed. This retroactively retcons the series so that Agent D has appeared as early as Just Dance 2. Additionally, the song ends with the pilot (who had appeared throughout the various missions, constantly needing help from Agent D) pressing a button on the monitor, leading to her next mission (presumably the 2023 version of "Toxic").

Currently, the only Britney Spears songs that have been featured in the Just Dance series that are not confirmed to involve Agent D are "Slumber Party" and "Till The World Ends". Additionally, it was revealed in an Instagram post that Agent D had also appeared in the standard version of "Circus", disguised as the feline tamer.

In the aftermath of Ken Penders' lawsuit against Archie Comics that led to their Sonic the Hedgehog comics getting rebooted, a common misconception among fans is that one of the characters he acquired the rights to as a result was Fiona Fox. This is not actually true: while Penders did help "recreate" the character, the initial character (an Auto-Automaton dubbed "Auto-Fiona"), was created by another former writer, Michael Gallagher. While it's uncertain if that he means he owns the character, Penders has stated that he did not want to claim a character that he did not create.
