Tomodachi Collection

Attachment If the player turns off their system without saving the game, there will be a special Mii news report that talks about the situation and what it would result in with the Miis on the island. If the player does the same thing again, then the same Mii news report will occur explaining how the Miis felt about the last time it happened.

Dan Slott, a comic book writer best known for his work on Marvel Comics such as "The Amazing Spider-Man", "Fantastic Four", and "Silver Surfer", wrote for two issues of Archie's "Sonic Super Special" series as part of its "Zone Wars" storyline. Despite these being his only works for the comic, he did make one notable contribution: Zonic the Zone Cop, an alternate reality version of Sonic who monitored all realities in order to maintain balance across the various Zones, though allowing other people to appear in other Zones when they are needed. In November 2022, in response to various fan questions about Zonic, Slott noted that he was willing to collaborate with Sega to bring him back, and had no protective hang-ups over the character unlike an unspecified Sonic creator who was "super protective of all the characters he's created over the years to the point where SEGA doesn't want to use ANY of them in other media" (likely referring to legal issues surrounding former writer Ken Penders).

Zoo Tycoon
1
Attachment One of the "Ice Age" (aka Pleistocene) era prehistoric creatures introduced in Zoo Tycoon: Dinosaur Digs is the "Giant Tortoise". In real life, as mentioned in its in-game description, its name is Meiolania.

Strangely enough, Dinosaur Digs depicts the Giant Tortoise as a tundra-dwelling reptile, perhaps to give it parity with its fellow Pleistocene/"Ice Age" animals such as the Woolly Mammoth, Sabre-Tooth Tiger (aka Smilodon) and Woolly Rhino, that all share the Tundra biome. In real life, the Meiolania actually lived in warmer, sub-tropical habitats such as prehistoric Australia.

Attachment One of the dinosaurs introduced in Zoo Tycoon's first expansion pack, Dinosaur Digs, is the Caudipteryx, a small bird-like dinosaur from Asia. In-game, it is listed as hailing from the Jurassic era, and it's even one of the dinosaurs the player is required to adopt in the "Jurassic Zoo" scenario, which hence its title, requires utilizing all of the game's Jurassic era dinosaurs to win. This is an error on Blue Fang's part, as the Caudipteryx actually hailed from the early Cretaceous period.

In October 2005, a newspaper report was released in Sweden linking multiple high ranking staff at Tiger Telematics, the company that made the Gizmondo game console, to the Uppsalamaffian, a Swedish mafia. The report singled out Stefan Eriksson, a prominent figure in the console's development, as the leader of the mafia until he became involved with the Gizmondo, and having received at least 2 prison sentences beforehand. On the same month that the Gizmondo was discontinued in Feburary 2006, Eriksson crashed a Ferrari in California so hard that it tore in half, with the investigation into the crash landing Eriksson behind bars again, and eventually deporting him back to Sweden to face repercussions for additional crimes committed there.

Super Mario RPG
1
Attachment The Save Block has a different letter in the Dutch and Spanish translations. They have an "O" (opslaan) and a "G" (guardar) respectively, both meaning "to save". This is the same as in the Spanish translations of Paper Mario and Paper Mario: Sticker Star and in the Dutch and Spanish translations of Paper Mario: Color Splash and Paper Mario: The Origami King.
person AppeltaartVrouw calendar_month December 20, 2023
By changing the system language to Dutch or Spanish (both American and European) and then opening the game, one can see that the letter on the Save Block is different. This is best seen if the game is loaded from a regular save rather than an autosave (assuming that a save has been made before).

Attachment There is a cactus prop at Universal Studios' Super Nintendo World that does not originate from an official Mario game, but rather the fanmade mod Newer Super Mario Bros. Wii. At the time of the park's opening, a Google search for "new super mario bros wii cactus" would show images of Newer's desert levels alongside New Super Mario Bros. Wii, meaning that the cacti was likely added by accident, being mistaken for official Nintendo material.
Mother 3
2
Attachment On February 9, 2007, nearly a year after the game's release, director and series creator Shigesato Itoi set up an online quiz for fans who had completed the game, testing their knowledge about it. One question asks which Thief Jujitsu technique Wess uses, with the options being:

• "Super Sunset Miracle Chop Again"
• "Super Chop Miracle Sunset Again"
• "Super Miracle Sunset Chop Again"
• "Miracle Chop Super Sunset Again"
• "Miracle Chop Super Sunrise Again"
• "Miracle Sunset Super Chop Again"

None of this corresponds with anything seen in the final game, and a note attached to the question clarifies that it was based on something that was removed during development, telling fans to ignore it. Because the intended answer was never confirmed by anyone on the Mother 3 development team, it is unknown what the true name of the technique was. Similarly, the question doesn't clarify what the technique would've been used for, though the phrase "Thief Jujitsu" is most similar to the Secret Thief Arts Technique that Wess occasionally uses in battle.

On December 12, 2023, a ransomware gang named Rhysida announced they they had hacked internal servers at Insomniac Games and stole upwards of 1.67 terabytes of data, including unreleased screenshots and concept art of the then-upcoming game Marvel's Wolverine, a timeline of upcoming Insomniac releases, as well as HR documents, emails, tax forms, internal conversations, and passports relating to current and former Insomniac employees, with the group posting a selection of this data as evidence of the theft. The group claimed it only took them 20-25 minutes to access the company's domain server and their motive was to publicly hold the stolen data for ransom. They offered to auction it off to anyone for 50 bitcoin, or $2 million USD, so long as the data was not resold by the new owners, with the deadline being a week from then. Reportedly 2% of the stolen data was purchased by unknown parties, but Insomniac did not purchase any of it back, leading Rhysida to release the remainder of the stolen data to the public.

Poptropica
3
In December 2023, a Discord user posing as a representative of the developers of Poptropica stated on the server for the fan website Poptropica Help Blog that the game would be shutting down after December 29th. The account first appeared on the server in 2022, and while the blog did not do a complete screening to ensure the account was officially associated with the developers, it was eventually given the role of "Poptropica Creator" after they determined it was official based on its posting history. Many players initially believed the announcement was legitimate after Poptropica suddenly closed membership registrations earlier in the month. Shortly after the shut down announcement, the official Poptropica Twitter and Instagram accounts decried the Discord account as being unofficial, and assured players that the game would still be playable after December 29th, with all memberships up to the end of the year being available for free. The blog posted an apology for perpetuating the rumors the following day, but within the next year, the validity of the rumors being false would come into question.

On January 18, 2024, possibly in response to the rumors the prior month, Coolmath Games revealed that they had been in talks with the team behind Poptropica to host the game on their site exclusively, with the game remaining playable on Steam and mobile devices. This would later be confirmed by Poptropica themselves through a pop-up message on their website shortly afterwards. Notably, in a blog post expanding upon the news, Coolmath Games revealed that "the original Poptropica decided to wind down", something that had never been officially stated by Poptropica themselves. This would suggest that there was some degree of truth to the initial hoax as well as various rumors.

Franchise: Silent Hill
2
Team Silent, the development team within Konami that made the first four games in the Silent Hill series, was not a cohesive unit of the same developers, and many of their games had different key staff who only worked on a couple of games and not the exact same team each time. After the dissolution of Team Silent during the development of Silent Hill 4: The Room, subsequent Silent Hill entries were developed by Western studios and negatively received by critics and fans alike, with some wishing for Team Silent to reunite to develop the series. The series' sound designer Akira Yamaoka expressed his stance on the possibility of a Team Silent reunion in a 2017 PC Gamer interview:

"I'm not against it, but it's hard to say because everyone has evolved, and maybe the mindset has changed as well. Also, the technology and the games industry as a whole has changed as well. Even if we got back together I'm not even sure we could do something great so it's very hard to say at the moment."

Final Fantasy VI
3
The character Ultros from Final Fantasy VI’s Japanese name is pronounced as “ortorosu” and was intended to be a reference to Orthos from Greek mythology. When the game was localized, the translator was presumably unaware of this reference and transliterated it as Ultros. Later entries in the series would alternate between calling the character Ultros and Orthos.

The original Japanese version of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Trials and Tribulations features a scene where the character Spoiler:Pearl Fey mistakenly spills curry on a scroll. She does this because her mother gave her a direction in writing to “Put a splendid end to the master of the house”, but Pearl misreads the kanji “華麗” (pronounced Karei, meaning splendid or gorgeous) as “kare” which means curry. The English localization changes Spoiler:the note to say “Gravely roast the Master in the fires of Hades and bring our vengeance to fruition.” and has Pearl instead spill gravy on the scroll.
