A popular belief within the Friday Night Funkin' fandom is that the game's main protagonist Boyfriend used to be in a relationship with Pico, the main protagonist of Pico's School and the opponent of Week 3. This gained so much traction that Tom Fulp (the creator of Pico's School) jokingly said it was "official Pico 2 canon". Programmer NinjaMuffin99 initially claimed this was just a joke, but later changed his mind and confirmed it was canon. The cutscene for the song "Stress" alludes to this, as Tankman mockingly refers to Pico as Boyfriend's "sexually ambiguous, angry little friend."
On April 1st, 2021, Tom Fulp updated Pico's School as an April Fools Day joke, with this version ending with Pico revealing to Cassandra that he and Boyfriend are dating and that everybody in the school accepts them. The next day, this version would be released as a separate game called Pico's School: Love Conquers All, being set in an alternate timeline. In AI: The Somnium Files, during the chapter PSYNCIN' IN THE SUSTaiN, Aiba can interact with a wall of signatures and examine 3 specific autographs marked as "Left," "Middle," or "Right." Selecting these options give the following:• Left - For 99 seconds, an autograph from someone named "Hongo" is shown. Aiba notes that she can't "picture the face" and a jingle plays.
• Middle - For 78 seconds, an autograph from someone named "Enoshima" is shown, featuring drawings of a black bear and a white bear. Aiba remarks that she "hopes" to find out who that is, and a second jingle plays.
• Right - For 12 seconds, an autograph from someone named "Mikimoto" is shown. Aiba describes him as "a photographer with some sort of beard like a mountain man" and a third jingle plays.
All 3 of these options are references to the games Zero Escape: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors, Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc, and Kamaitachi no Yoru (renamed Banshee's Last Cry in the iOS English release). These games were all developed by Chunsoft or Spike (before the merger), and the jingles used are audio themes used in each game. • 999 - Spoiler:References Gentaro Hongou, nicknamed Ace, the antagonist of the First Nonary Game. He has prosopagnosia, a disorder that prevents someone from recognizing faces. The 99 seconds references the title of the game, shortened to 999.
• Danganronpa - Spoiler:References Junko Enoshima, the mastermind of the "Killing School Life" death game who controls Monokuma. She holds the title "Ultimate Despair," and her goal is to abolish "Hope." The 78 seconds references her class at Hope's Peak Academy, Class 78.
• KnY/BLC - Spoiler:References Yosuke Mikimoto (named Jonas Faberge in the iOS English release), the culprit of the murders at the skiing lodge. His disguise involves wearing a fake beard to appear as a mountaineering photographer. The 12 seconds references the 12 people staying at the skiing lodge, or perhaps the 12 potential victims that Mikimoto can kill in bad endings.

Kurohyou 2 features a song which Ukyo can sing in the karaoke mini-game titled "Majima no MajiROCK", which features the voice of Goro Majima and his character profile on the song cover. Goro Majima is a character from the first Yakuza game who has appeared in every single mainline title since, but never made an appearance in either of the Kurohyou spin-offs besides this cameo, implying that he had to have recorded this song himself at some point.

The Tails Doll from Sonic R can be found in Pinball Carnival Zone Act 2, floating at the end of an exploding rollercoaster. However, the coaster's momentum would make most players automatically speed past and not notice him. When you jump and touch him, he will turn into a gold coin. As a reward for contributing a $100+ donation to the game's Kickstarter campaign, backers could choose to join a clan of their choice to appear under in the game's credits. Six "Sword or Whip" Clans (connected to a vote on if Miriam's personal weapon should be a sword or a whip) were dedicated to voting on which Sword or Whip weapon would become the most powerful weapon in the game (the winner being Clan Katana with the Grand Izayoi sword), while the remaining eighteen clans were Community or YouTube Partner Clans, who would receive a code for a clan-specific item.The Community Clans were represented by two Castlevania fan communities: the Dungeon clan (The Castlevania Dungeon forums), and the Operation Akumajo clan (a Castlevania Facebook group spun off from The Castlevania Dungeon dedicated to promoting the series following its 25th anniversary in 2011). The YouTubers and other companies who participated in the last clan group were associated with Fangamer, a video game merchandising company who managed the Kickstarter campaign for Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. To unlock one of the Community/YouTube Partner Clan items, you must enter its respective code as the name for your save file, and as such only one clan item can be unlocked per save file. After the Alignment Lock happens near the end of the game, if you return to Club Milton in Shibuya, you can view a hidden scene showing the accented club manager busily attending to a surge of demon customers. If you listen closely, the music that plays in the background is a remix of the Normal Battle theme from Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne. During the same scene, one of the sprites shown bears a striking resemblance to actor Heath Ledger, based on his appearance as the Joker wearing a nurse's outfit in the 2008 film "The Dark Knight".
