Tommy Tallarico is a video game composer and the president of Intellivision Entertainment. In 2019, he discovered that the popular "oof" default death sound effect used in Roblox since 2006 was extremely similar to a sound effect he claimed to have created for the 2000 PC game Messiah.

Roblox's developers claimed that the game's creators David Baszucki and Erik Cassel pulled the sound from a CD-ROM they had purchased containing licensed, copyright-free sound effects. Further research into the metadata of the audio file from pre-2013 clients shows the "oof" sound effect, officially called "Died", was created on September 18, 1998 in Sound Forge 4.5, with Messiah being the earliest known use of the sound effect.

Tallarico initially filed a copyright claim against Roblox and requests to him by the game's developers to present proof he owned the original sound effect produced nothing. However, after a year of negotiations with the developers, they worked out a compromise that involved them creating a new default death sound effect, and moving the "oof" sound effect behind a 100 Robux ($1) paywall after the implementation of the game's Developer Marketplace began. Since the dispute was settled, Tallarico released an official sound design kit for Roblox's Developer Marketplace with pricing ranging from $10 to $250 based on how many sounds are purchased.

In a promotional article published by Gamefan magazine, the game's art style was stated to have been heavily influenced by the Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote Looney Tunes shorts directed by Warner Bros. animator Chuck Jones. On top of this, he was credited in promotional materials for overseeing some of the game's art direction and for choosing the game's flat-shaded, polygonal graphics, but was not credited in the final product.

The original Xbox release of Shrek is noted as being the first commercial game to use "deferred shading," a technique where light is only calculated for the pixels it actually interacts with, meaning multiple light sources can be used at a lower cost than standard shading techniques and allowing the game to better imitate the ambient lighting of the original film. This technique would later be seen in Battlefield 1942, another game developed by DICE and released the following year.

Attachment In the game's North American manual under the "Even More Sonic Super Play Tips" section, the last tip subtly addresses how to deal with glitches resulting from running too fast by branding them as "diabolical traps" set by Dr. Robotnik that "take advantage of Sonic's ultra-fast speed".

In an interview with LEGO Island's creative director Wes Jenkins from around 2013, he revealed that Mindscape fired the game's entire development team the day before the game was released in order to avoid paying promised bonuses:

"Long story but basically – the industry tradition (back then) was that you will receive product bonuses if you stay to the day of product release. The best solution for them (administrators) at the time was to fire everybody the day before release. There's bigger profits and then [sic] could get their investment money back before the product sells… if you don't have to pay bonuses or continued salaries. They also sold [Mindscape] eventually to bigger companies, which ended up in some legal complications… It was explained to me later when we won best of the show at E3 later that year, that "it wasn't personal – it was just business"."

The ZX Spectrum port (released as Great Gurianos on all home computer platforms) was intentionally unbeatable with the final boss made invincible. According to the port's programmer, David Perry, this was done due to there being no memory left in the game to include an ending.

The iconic start-up sound of the PlayStation is actually a combination of three different clips stored in the system BIOS, which are then either sped up or slowed down to produce what is heard at the boot-up screen. These sounds also serve to check if the system is running normally and is OK to read games - errors within the system can lead to the startup sound becoming distorted.

Trip Hawkins, president of the 3DO Company, sent an angry email to John Rousseau, president of video game review publication GamePro, which was the first publication to review Portal Runner, after it gave the game a low score of 2 out of 5. Hawkins threatened to pull advertising from GamePro and believed that because their review was the first published it would "set the tone by telling the hardcore what to think." Hawkins also described their review staff as "angry young men that are poorly trained and represent a narrow and anarchistic element of the world's population."

Attachment Censored Gaming asked 'Martin Molls', the game's director, why the 'Hunting Knife' was removed from the Japanese localisation. He stated that it was related to the 'Kobe Child Murders', an incident in Japan, involving child murder and knives.

This change is believed to have affected Rare's later game 'Perfect Dark' for the same reason.
Donkey Kong Country

According to character designer Gregg Mayles on Twitter, after the announcement that King K. Rool would be in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, a character that Gregg had named and designed the actions of, he revealed that the character was original called "KOMMANDER K. ROOL" and that Donkey Kong Country was originally to be called MONKEY MAYHEM. He also mentioned that the "K." in K. Rool does not actually stand for anything and the name itself is only intended to be a play on the word "cruel", though he joked that the initial could stand for something mundane and off-character, such as "Keith".

In addition, Gregg's brother Steve, who designed the look and visual design for the character, also revealed that the programmers thought King K. Rool was "too big" and too taxing on the game's memory, and thus several frames of the character's animation had to be dropped as a result.
Bubble Bobble

In an interview with the game's designer, Fukio Mitsuji, found within BEEP! magazine, he was asked about how he began making Bubble Bobble. He responded that after creating a racing game and a shooting game, he wanted to make something more comical. He believes Bubble Bobble was a game that he put the most thought into, losing sleep whilst thinking of how to improve it. He considers it a deep and memorable game within his life.

"Well, I’d done a racing game now, and a shooting game, so now I thought I’d try my hand at a comical game! And that game was Bubble Bobble."

"How could I, practically speaking, improve and iterate on this new design philosophy of mine? I was always thinking about that question. On Bubble Bobble I worked hard to really push my ideas to the limits. In that sense, Bubble Bobble was probably one of the games I put the most thought into—I honestly lost sleep thinking about how to make it better, better, better. For me personally, it’s a very deep, memorable game."

Attachment In an interview, Tetsuya Nomura stated that he envisioned Cloud and Sephiroth's relationship to be like that of Musashi Miyamoto and Sasaki Kojiro. This influenced not only their appearances, but also the appearances of their swords.

"For me, it’s of course Cloud and Sephiroth. My concept for Sephiroth from the beginning was that everything about him would be kakkoii. His battle movements, and all his in-game scenes too. My image of the relationship between Cloud AND Sephiroth was that of Musashi Miyamoto and Sasaki Kojiro, and I had them in mind when I designed their appearance, as well as their swords. Of course Cloud is Musashi, and Sephiroth is Kojiro."
Epic Mickey

According to Warren Spector. He considers Epic Mickey (and Deus Ex) as the high point of his career for bringing back the character Oswald the Lucky Rabbit and getting fan mail regarding his work on Epic Mickey from fans.

"I suspect no one at Disney realizes that we made Ortensia up for our game. I'm sure people at Disney think Ortensia is a part of Disney's history. We made her up. So the fact that Oswald is back, and the fact that Ortensia is now a part of Disney's history, is because of a video game. That's very cool.

I got more fan mail about Epic Mickey than any game I've ever worked on. It was more heartfelt fan mail than any game I've ever worked on. We touched people in a way that games just never touch people.

Screw Metacritic. Screw the gamers who didn't like our camera. Screw everybody. I am really proud of that game, and I am really proud of the team that made it, and nothing is going to ever sway me from feeling like that was one of the high points of my career."

It should be noted that Ortensia was not technically an original creation for Epic Mickey, as she already existed in the Oswald cartoons under the name Sadie. However, Ortensia would become Sadie's official name in the Disney Parks and merchandise following the game.

The Turrican soundtrack features two tracks that plagiarized the score of the 1986 film "The Transformers: The Movie". The title theme is directly based on the track "Escape", while the ending credits theme features a rearrangement of the track "Death of Optimus Prime".

According to the games' digital manual, the Motobug that Heavy Rider rides on is named Jimmy. This is in tribute to Polygon Jim, a member of the Sonic hacking community who died in a car crash in 2013.
Jim’s most prominent hack was Motobug the Badnik in Sonic the Hedgehog. In the hack the Motobug will extend its wheel out to jump, which the Heavy Rider’s Motobug also does.

As a way of preventing the use of a cheat device like Game Genie, additional code was put in place to detect one. If the system discovers any sort of leftover data in its RAM and VRAM, the game will lock-up and display a gray screen. This was done due to the game being released as part of a contest run by MTV.

During the 2013 Skullgirls Evo Breast Cancer Donation Drive, anybody who donated $50 USD could request a personal voice message from the voice actors of the game. One of the requests was for Peacock's voice actress, Sarah Anne Williams, to sing the song "Yakko's World" from the popular 90's cartoon Animaniacs.
