Darkened Skye
subdirectory_arrow_right M&M's (Franchise)
2
Darkened Skye came about as a result of Simon & Schuster Interactive attempting to acquire the M&M's license for use in gaming, due to the popularity of the Spokescandy mascots. Skittles was simply a back-up option in case the M&M's deal fell through, but both licenses were acquired. While Dale DeSharone, one of the game's executive producers, believed it should have been aimed at a younger child audience, Mars wanted to attract an audience of people in their 20s, because that demographic did not buy Skittles as much as people in their 30s and older, though they were also adamant that the game couldn't be violent. The game's aesthetic was inspired by a series of late-1990s high fantasy Skittles commercials.
Victorious: Taking the Lead
1
Robbie Shapiro from Victorious was first depicted as having an interest in performance magic in Victorious: Taking the Lead for Wii. This would eventually be canonized in the TV series with Robbie mentioning an interest in magic, followed by clips released for TheSlap.com of Robbie performing magic tricks.
Virtual Bart
1
Attachment In a prototype for Virtual Bart, an early version of the cutscene that plays before the tomato-throwing minigame can be seen. This cutscene shows Bart with a devious smirk, which was likely redrawn for going against Simpsons style guide rules against "demonic expressions"
Disney's The Lion King 1 1/2
1
Attachment The Lion King 1 1/2 for Game Boy Advance was released in European territories not as as the movie's European title The Lion King 3, but rather simply The Lion King, with a large image of cub Simba added to the box art, despite not being playable in-game. The blurb does specify that the game is based on The Lion King 3 and alludes towards only Timon and Pumbaa being playable however.

The original US box art could also be considered misleading to a much lesser degree. While being open about what movie it is an adaptation of and having a giant Timon and Pumbaa ripping through the paper at the top, it uses a modified version of the first film's promo art, featuring Mufasa's spirit head, with cub Simba also present in silhouette (albeit significantly smaller relative to Timon and Pumbaa than on the European box art). This imagery that was not used to market The Lion King 1 1/2 anywhere else. Both boxes' blurbs also feature a screenshot where Simba, as an NPC, is in the center.

Ghostbusters
1
Ghostbusters is a modified version of an unreleased game called Car Wars. According to the game's developer David Crane in a 2010 interview, Car Wars was "a game about buying cars, tricking them out, and dueling them against other cars around a fictional city." After one month of development, Activision co-founder Gary Kitchen called and met with him to discuss making a game based on the then-upcoming Ghostbusters film to release on the same day as the film, and Crane immediately devised a way to change Car Wars into a Ghostbusters game with only minor changes and additions.
Sharknado: The Video Game
1
According to Jeff Li, the vice president of Syfy, the company's goal was to get a game based on Sharknado released either before or at the same time as the second movie, "Sharknado 2: The Second One", adding:

"We did not give the game developer a lot of time. Usually they want more than a year but here we said we've got to get a quality game out so it can ride the Sharknado 2 wave."

This is why they went with Majesco Entertainment as the licensee, as it would have taken at least two years to develop a more complex game for consoles, whereas Majesco could easily produce a casual game in the "endless runner" genre.
subdirectory_arrow_right Mario (Franchise)
2
Attachment In the 2020 Sonic the Hedgehog film, Sonic’s disdain of mushrooms could be a jab at his rivalry with Mario in the 90s. This is reinforced in the Thai dub of the film, where the joke about Tom saying that Sonic won’t be the only “fungi” on the mushroom planet is replaced with “at least you can have a mushroom forever,” to which Sonic replies with “No. I’m not Mario”.

Nintendo possibly “returned the favor” in 2023’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie, where the Super Mario Bros. Plumbing advertisement features a map with one of the landmarks listed as “Mushroom Planet”.

Asterix (Arcade)
1
Asterix sprite artist Masaaki Kukino visited France while doing market research for the game, and visited the Parc Astérix theme park while he was there. He has claimed to be very proud of the fact that the game was so faithful to the comics that some French Asterix fans believed the game to have been made by French people.

Fate/Grand Order
1
In Episode 45 of "More Learning With Manga! Fate/Grand Order", Gudao (The Male Master) contemplates whether he should use a Holy Grail to increase Astolfo's Level Cap, or save it for when he gets a Limited 5-Star Version, presumably as a Saber Class. The Fifth Christmas Event "Nightingale's Christmas Carol" would introduce exactly that: a new, Limited 5-Star Saber version of Astolfo.

Chicken Run: Eggstraction
subdirectory_arrow_right Chicken Run (Franchise)
1
The concept of Chicken Run: Eggstraction was concieved during the production of the Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget movie. It is possible that the ending of Dawn of the Nugget, where Spoiler:Ginger leads the flock to become vigilante spies, devoted to rescuing chickens from other coups and factories may have been added to set up the game.
Attack on Titan 2
2
The English version of the game mistakenly refers to the character Connie Springer as female in some cases, and similarly mistakenly refers to the character Nanaba as male in the journal entries.

Sonic Underground
3
The story section of Sonic Underground's manual has numerous inconsistencies with the plot of the show it's based on, though are still featured in early production documents. These include:

• Robotnik at one point being referred to as "Sheriff Robotnik", likely a reference to the Sheriff of Nottingham from the legend of Robin Hood. He does not bare this title in the show itself; early leaks to the show's plot prior to release also reference his role as a sheriff, suggesting it was a scrapped concept from early on in development.
• The Oracle of Delphius being banished to the Frozen Wastes by Robotnik and passing away from unknown causes sometime after, telling Sonic how to reunite with his siblings in his dying breath. While the Oracle does take up residence in Ice Cap in the final show, he was not banished there, nor does he ever die.
• The Medallions being stated to be golden, but in the final show they bare a more silver coloration. Another detail stated in the manual but not in the final show is that they each possess three notes engraved into them.
• Robotnik's given motive for finding Queen Aleena is so that he can marry her and make her his consort, as he believes that by doing so he can become the rightful ruler of Mobius. While not his overall motive in the final show, the episode "Wedding Bell Blues" did use a similar premise for its plot.
• While not in early production documents, the game's manual states that it ends with Sonic, Manic and Sonia reuniting with their mother, which never actually happened in the original show, making it the only piece of Sonic Underground-related media where this goal is actually accomplished.

As part of a lore Q&A video, it was initially stated that maps from other licenses (i.e. "We Don't Talk About Bruno" from the Disney film "Encanto" and "More" by K-pop group K/DA) were canonically set on Earth. However, this portion of the Q&A video was later deleted.

Just Dance: Disney Party
1
One of the songs featured in the game is "Everything Is Not As It Seems" by Selena Gomez, the theme song for the Disney Channel series "Wizards of Waverly Place". Due to the song's short length, however, the version that appears in the game was extended by combining both the season 1 version of the song and the season 4 version. In the Spanish version, however, only the season 4 version is used in both instances.

1
Atari Corporation lead Larry Siegel attempted to sell main Atari CEO Jack Tramiel on the idea of making a Jurassic Park game for the unreleased Panther hardware before the book's movie adaptation even entered production. They would've also gained royalties for merchandising and the eventual movie, but Tramiel turned down the offer due to the cost being too high. Siegel claims this is how he "realized that [Atari] would never spend the money to have an anchor title."
Disney's Animated Storybook: Toy Story
subdirectory_arrow_right Toy Story Activity Center (Game), Toy Story (Franchise), Disney's Animated Storybook (Collection), Pixar (Collection)
2
Disney's Animated Storybook: Toy Story and Toy Story Activity Center were developed by a devision of Pixar known as the Interactive Products Group, which exclusively made video game content. The division was closed down when the Toy Story 2 movie entered production, and merged into Pixar's main movie animation staff, as the animators behind the first film were working on A Bug's Life and the IPG had already proved itself by making as many frames of animation for their games as there was in the first Toy Story, with a near-identical quality. Due to the shuttering of the IPG, later Pixar PC games using pre-rendered graphics, such as A Bug's Life Activity Center and Monsters, Inc. Scream Team Training, would have significantly lower quality animation than the movies, and Toy Story would be the only Pixar film to have an Animated Storybook based on it.
