The Tower of Druaga
2
In a February 1986 interview with the game's designer Masanobu Endō published in an issue of Famimaga magazine, he stated that the team originally wanted to put 256 floors in the game, but they thought that would be too difficult for players so they decided to make the tower the same height as the tallest building in Japan at the time - the Sunshine 60 skyscraper - which has 60 floors.

According to programmer Zoid Kirsch, one of the design goals during Metroid Prime's development was to make sure the player immediately know if they are damaging enemies or not as objects and creatures are often only vulnerable to specific types of damage, and those types need an indicator.

The GameCube did not have shaders as they are known in modern-day consoles, rather it had a TEV (acronym for TExture enVironment unit) that could blend colors, and Kirsch realized the game needed a consistent design for the color blends. He worked with senior designers to pick particular yellow and red colors, whether hitting blocks, bosses, or enemies, to ensure that it was clear when the player was shooting in the right area to damage them. Whenever the player is not doing damage, Samus' shots are reflected off what she's shooting, creating a consistency that helps players understand clearly what's happening.

Whenever Samus approaches a Bombu, the screen fills with static to show electrical interference with her visor. According to programmer Zoid Kirsch, as the game's developers worked on this detail, a big issue that came up was the memory use of the noise texture since the GameCube only has 24 MB of RAM. If they used a low resolution texture (64x64) to save memory then the static effect would come out blurry and not crisp.

To solve this problem, one engineer came up with the idea to use the memory holding the Metroid Prime code itself, and they discovered that machine code is sufficiently random to pass as a static noise texture. In the final game, whenever Samus' visor is affected by electrical noise in-game, the player is actually seeing the bits and bytes of the Metroid Prime software code itself being rendered on the screen.

In Metroid Prime, the wait time for doors between different rooms to open can sometimes last a long time, because it acts as a buffer to allow the room past the door to load in. In most cases, two rooms can be loaded in at once, the one Samus is in, and the one she is going to (on rare occasions three rooms can be loaded in), and in rooms with multiple exits, only one door can be open at a time.

According to programmer Zoid Kirsch, the game's developers went with the design of the blue force field on the doors that fades when shot to indicate the door is "ready" to open, but has to wait until the room behind it is loaded. Most times, the room should already be loaded by the time Samus gets to the door, but some gameplay elements like the Morph Ball make it so she can get there much faster. On the GameCube and Wii disc copies of Metroid Prime, this means you will have to wait for the disc to be read and finish loading the room for the door to open, but on a digital copy like the Wii U Nintendo eShop release of Metroid Prime Trilogy, the load times are much faster since the game is stored on the console's internal memory with no other changes to the game.
Drawn to Life: The Next Chapter

According to Jeremiah Slaczka, the Galactic Jungle village was inspired by the Franz Kafka novel "The Castle".

The idea of having a game told from the perspective of an immigrant mother came about because, as noted by lead developer Abhi, most media related to immigrant stories focused on second-generation children, rather than their parents. Abhi felt that it was the parents who had "a cooler story to tell, because they up and leave their country at the age of 40 or 50, and they move to a brand new place."
Sonic Superstars

Metal Tails and Metal Amy, two characters playable in the game's Battle Mode, were created by Kazuyuki Hoshino, the original creator of Metal Sonic. Also playable in the Battle Mode is Metal Knuckles, who makes his first appearance in a Sonic game since Sonic R.

Klonoa: Door to Phantomile

Attachment Early concept art (released by Hideo Yoshizawa) depicts Huepow as a flame monster eating an enemy alive and throwing out its lifeless corpse and the Moos as werewolf-like creatures. This art suggested that the game was originally going to be somewhat darker and more action-oriented than the final game turned out to be.
Crash Bandicoot
3
Attachment An early concept for Crash Bandicoot, back when he was originally known as Willy the Wombat, was to have the Cortex Vortex be a surplus of television sets used to brainwash the evolved animals into doing the bidding of Dr. Cortex. After being subjected to the Vortex's media barrage for 7 days and nights, Willy would've been given a tendency to speak and act in a series of bizarre nonsequiters that referenced classic literature, pop culture, or from radio, TV or movies. Some examples would've included "Loose lips, sink ships!", "But brushing with Best Toothpaste gives white, white, white teeth!", and "Don't fire boys, until you see the whites of their eyes!" His demeanor was similar to other hyperactive pop-culture referencing comedy characters from the late 80s and 90s, where he could be quoting from Rambo one moment before switching to Fred Astaire, to John Wayne, and then to Fred Flintstone.
Freedom Planet 2
1
The game's creator Sabrina Diduro has stated that the reason Classic Mode isn't available until it's unlocked by beating the game, is because of how much effort she and the team at GalaxyTrail put into the story and how it is much more integrated into the game compared to Freedom Planet. However, there is a cheat code to unlock Classic Mode early, which is done by entering the Sonic the Hedgehog level select code at the title screen.
Freedom Planet 2
1
Due to the increased scope of the game, Freedom Planet 2's creator Sabrina DiDuro briefly considered the idea of splitting Freedom Planet 2 into two parts similar to Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Sonic & Knuckles during development, but she and her team at GalaxyTrail committed to keeping it as a single game despite how long it would take to complete it.
Franchise: Kingdom Hearts
1
During a Q&A session at MomoCon 2015, Greg Weisman revealed that a world based on his animated series Gargoyles was proposed at one point to be included in the Kingdom Hearts series, but was scrapped due to some team members "leaving Disney".

This marks the only known instance of a world directly based on a television series by Disney ever being considered for inclusion in the Kingdom Hearts series.

Attachment In a 1996 interview with Shigeru Miyamoto published in Super Mario 64's first Japanese strategy guides, he revealed that Mario's running animation, speed and movements in that game were influenced by Arale, the main protagonist of the 1980 Akira Toriyama manga/anime "Dr. Slump":

"The area around his hips is a big "joint" that controls which way his body moves. We created all his movements from that point of origin: when he accelerates and inclines forward, when he turns and leans left or right, etc. So Mario sort of runs like Arale-chan, with the correct sense of weight in the body."

However, Dr. Slump's influence throughout the Mario series could trace back even further. Some particular examples from Mario games include:

• His running speed, animation, the Racoon and Tanooki Suits from Super Mario Bros. 3
• The Wing Cap from Super Mario 64
• The Cat Suit from Super Mario 3D World

Even traits of Mario's happy cartoonish personality, his short stature and gloves, and blue-red-overalls color scheme bear enough similarities that they all could have been taken from Arale's appearances and other elements throughout Dr. Slump. Despite this, outside of Miyamoto's comment, these connections are not known to have been elaborated on by any other employee from Nintendo.

Equinox
1
Alan Smithee, a now-discontinued pseudonym used by the Screenwriter's Guild of America for film staff who want to disown a project, has seen use in the gaming industry - the earliest documented use of the name in a video game can be found for the director of Equinox for SNES. The game's real director, John Pickford, explained in 2023 that he went credited as Alan Smithee because he was "pissed" about the large volume of content removed from the final game.

Bendy and the Silent City is a concept prototype developed by TheMeatly. The prototype footage was accidently released by TheMeatly on the Joey Drew Studios YouTube channel in May of 2023 before being privated and deleted shortly afterwards. He clarified on Twitter that the game was not in active development due to the team focusing on other Bendy-related projects. However, he also clarified that the project was not cancelled, and that since the leak was already widespread, it was okay to talk about the game in public.

Attachment In 2019, a YouTube user by the name of MickeySerbia posted a now-deleted video showing that Sans' voice grunting was most likely sourced from a snippet of Patrick Star saying "maybe it's the way you're dressed" in the SpongeBob SquarePants episode "Something Smells"; specifically, the grunt comes from the "ay" in "maybe." This information was further popularized when the SoundCloud account UNDERTALE OST: Recreated made and published the same discovery later that year, independent of MickeySerbia. While Toby Fox did not comment on the discovery, waveform comparisons between the SoundCloud post and Sans' voice grunting shows that the two are nearly identical apart from a slight delay in the former.
