On September 8, 2022, the United Kingdom's Queen Elizabeth II died, starting a national mourning period of ten days. In that time, rumors began to circulate that Nintendo had postponed a planned Nintendo Direct in response to the news. On September 12, the Direct was formally revealed to air worldwide the next day, although it was not livestreamed in the UK. Instead, it was published as an on-demand video on Nintendo UK's YouTube channel at a later time. This Direct featured the full title reveal for the then-untitled Sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, revealing the game's subtitle to be "Tears of the Kingdom". This lead to even more speculation that the poor timing of this subtitle being the name of one of Nintendo's most anticipated games at the time coinciding with the Queen's death was what resulted in the Direct being delayed, rather than doing so purely out of respect. It wouldn't be until October 3 for Nintendo UK to begin their own promotion of the game, long after the mourning period ended.
According to former Square localizer Alexander O. Smith, the US localization team had to use a GameShark cheat device to view the game's text for easier translation. This was because Square's Japan headquarters didn't think to send them a copy of the game's text files.
In the game's opening scene, Barbarosa gives Teo his sword "Pluck" (mistranslated as "Prakk" in the English version). "Pluck" is a reference to JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, when Bruford gives his "Luck & Pluck" sword to Jonathan Joestar.
When Terra flies off from Narshe after the battle with Kefka, if the player takes a party of only Gau, then heads to Kohlingen and recruits Shadow, then walks all the way to the Veldt, has Gau use Leap on an enemy, then returns to Narshe with only Shadow, Shadow will leave the party even though he is the only party member. This will cause the game to lock up and leave the player unable to do anything.
During the Motorcycle Chase FMV, Midgar is incorrectly spelled Midgal on the side of the truck door. This is probably because the letters "R" and "L" are commonly mistranslated from Japanese to English.
The game will automatically try to match long or abnormally punctuated but somewhat near-coherent answers with a correct answer which may sound similar or feature some of the same letters.
A notable example would be "C D Player" (with a space between 'C' and 'D') may be recognized by the game as "Model Car".
In the Japanese version, entering "おわひ" (Apology in Japanese) will reveal the hidden message "ぱすわーどがながくてすみません" (Sorry the Password is so long), presumably a message from the developers, apologising for the game's up to 104 character long passwords.
The unusually named boss "Bizarro-Sephiroth" was a result of a mistranslation. The boss is actually known as "Rebirth-Sephiroth", but due to the letters "B" and "V" being interchangeable in Japanese and "th" often being translated as "S" (the same issue led to Aerith being known as Aeris), it ended up being translated as "Reverse-Sephiroth."
The translators then replaced the word "Reverse" with "Bizarro", which in the west can be used as a slang term to refer to something that is opposite or backwards. It is derived from the character Bizarro from the Superman comics, who was an imperfect clone of Superman who consciously did things the opposite way they were expected.
Allowing the A6 guitar chord to wring out, a whispering voice saying "Tsugiikimasu" can be heard. It is one of the recording artists saying "Next" in Japanese, which was accidentally left in the recording.
Kiros's weapon, the katal, is a mistranslation of an Indian weapon called the Katar. The Katar is one-handed push dagger. These are used primarily for thrusting attacks.
During the attack on Dollet when you meet Selphie during the FMV, she is wearing shoes with knee-high socks. However, her in-game model wears knee-high boots.
During the cutscene Spoiler:in which he kills Aeris, Sephiroth's hands are bare as he descends from the ceiling. However, during the rest of the scene, he has black gloves on.
There is a continuity error with Shanoa from Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia. Her storyline states she is still looking for Albus when she enters the Time Rift but she uses Dextro Custos and Sinestro Custos (twin biting Cerberus heads) that can only be found in Dracula's Castle after defeating Albus in Mystery Manor.
After you find Cloud in the hospital after he falls in the Lifestream, he will mumble incoherent things when you speak to him. One of the things he mumbles is "zeno... gias..." This is a translation error and a reference to the game Xenogears. In the PC port of Final Fantasy VII, the spelling is corrected to "Xeno... gears".
Cloud also says "A billion mirror fragments.... small.... light..." which is a reference to the vocal song of Xenogears, Small Two of Pieces. One of the lines to the song is "Broken mirror, a million shades of light".
The first 3 games in this series were released on the GBA, only in Japan. When the first game was ported to the Nintendo DS, a new case was added. This case caused a continuity error in the second game, when the original last case of the first game was said to be Edgeworth's last case. This was corrected in Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy, which updated some of the lines of dialogue to fit the new case into the series timeline. Specifically:
• "(But after "that" case was over...)" became "(But a little after "that" case was over...)" • "After that case, Edgeworth was in a peculiar state, and he got worse everyday." became "Edgeworth was never quite the same after that case, and then, with the case after that one..." • "That was one year ago. It was right after you left to go back home." became "That was one year ago. It was a few months after you left to go back home."

Stellar Blade became rather controversial with critics in large part due to the sexualization of its protagonist Eve. They argued that the game's marketing leaned heavily into Eve's sexual appeal by focusing on elements such as revealing costumes and suggestive character designs for its promotional strategy. This got to the point where the South Korean version of the game received an "Adults-Only" rating due to suggestive images, nudity, and violence. Hyung-Tae Kim, the game's director, defended these design choices, stating:
"When it comes to the design, we put special attention on the back of the character because the player is always facing the back of the character when they're playing. That's what they see the most of, so we thought this was pretty important."
This controversy culminated when the game released with a Day 1 patch that patched out unintentionally offensive graffiti, and censored two revealing outfits Eve can wear in the game, the Holiday Rabbit and the Cybernetic Bondage, but these are not the only censored outfits left in the game. When the player finds their first unlockable Nano Suit blueprint on the overworld, a tutorial pop-up appears featuring a video that scrolls through a montage of the other Nano Suits you can unlock in the game, and among them is an uncensored version of the Moutan Peony, an outfit that features dark pantyhose covering Eve's skin up to her waist in both the base game and the Day 1 patch. It appears that the developers forgot to remove this video when changing the costumes during development, and it's currently not known if other outfits in this video were changed in the final game.
These changes are in contrast to a claim from the game's official Twitter account stating that all versions of the game worldwide would be released uncensored, leading to the changes being widely criticized by players on social media and speculation that the game's publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment mandated the changes after addressing the offensive graffiti. However, Kim addressed the matter during a Q&A at a launch event for the game, stating:
"Understandably we also recognize about[sic] the issue. However, the final costume that we wanted to show you is indeed the costume in version 1.0.0.2. I want to clarify that is our final product. However, I know this answer is not enough to convince our users. There is an internal discussion ongoing regarding this. So I think we'll have a chance to answer it soon."
The speculated tensions between Shift Up and Sony during development were actually highlighted by Drakengard and Nier: Automata creator Yoko Taro, a developer with a history of tensions with Sony, during a joint interview with him and Kim for IGN published a little over a week before the game's release:
Yoko Taro: "[...] Mr. Kim, I wanted to ask you if there were any fights with Sony Interactive Enteratainment (SIE), since they are publishing Stellar Blade."
Hyung-Tae Kim: "(Glances at SIE staff members in the room and laughs.) The people at SIE are... very, very nice!"
Taro: "SIE's staff members are pulling faces I've never seen before. I wish the readers of this article could see it!"

On April 24, 2024, when the game's review embargo lifted prior to its release, a reviewer tweeted a discovery made while playing through the game, that being an accidental reference to a racial slur through the game's graphics. This happened when a graphic of graffiti art spelling "Hard", a design which is reused in numerous places throughout the game, ended up being placed next to a neon sign pointing to the "R Shop", referring to one of the game's information brokers named Roxanne. Put together, this text reads as the "Hard R Shop", including a slang term referring to the racial slur "nigger". When IGN contacted Sony regarding this discovery, they released a statement claiming the game's developer Shift Up had no intention of creating offensive artwork or including the objectionable phrase in the game, and vowed to remove it before the game's release. The "Hard" graphic in that spot would be quickly replaced by a different piece of graffiti spelling "Crime" in a pre-release edit that also added New Game+ to the game, and would be added to the released game as part of a Day 1 patch. Interestingly, this entire span of events from the term being discovered to it being replaced occurred in less than 97 minutes, and the changes stand in contrast to a claim from the game's official Twitter account three days prior that all versions of the game in all countries would be released uncensored.
The title card for the Underworld stage contains a typo as the word "Summoning" is instead spelled as "Summning". This typo is only present in the USA and PAL versions.
The song "Red and Blue" was originally composed by Silentroom, then known under the alias "Polycube" for Sound Voltex III: Gravity War's "The First VOLTEX Character Theme Song Contest" in 2014. However, the song was unable to be submitted due to missing the deadline. It was later added and repurposed for Arcaea in the 1.5.0 update.
