The Sims 3

Attachment In June 2010, several players noticed that a package file was attaching itself to other packages in The Sims 3. The file was a corrupted girl doll object titled "Girl Doll Dressed", which was incorrectly cloned from the Teddy bear. Game installations became "infected" by players downloading lots, houses or Sims with the hidden doll attached, similar to how computer viruses spread, and the doll was determined to cause longer loading times and game crashes. Players then unknowingly uploaded these infected packages to The Exchange, the game's online custom content workshop, causing it to spread to even more players.

Many Sims community sites began reporting the issue and one user posted a guide on how to manually remove the doll from the game to prevent the glitch from spreading, and a SimGuru on EA's official Sims forum eventually responded with a stickied post informing the community about the issue, and stated that EA would patch the game in the future to institute measures preventing corrupted objects from being uploaded to The Exchange.

Takuma's ability to combo off of his desperation move was originally a glitch:

"Takuma is able to combo off his Super Strike Gale, but originally this was a bug. We tried taking it out, but he was too weak without it: 'I don’t know… if Takuma doesn’t have this, he’s kind of… um…' So we re-added it again! Thanks to that decision though he became a pretty cheap character. So I kind of regret it now."

In the Nintendo 64 release of the game, there is a list of 2,170 names that when entered to save your high score will cause all menu text to be replaced with a string of gibberish unique to each name. Attempting to complete a Competition after doing this will likely cause the game to crash. The most popular example of this glitch is entering the name "TYR" which causes the menu text to instead display "RXJP Y HMB". The last two characters of names entered (including blank characters) that trigger this glitch act as a checksum of the preceding characters, suggesting that this glitch is a remnant of an early password system that was scrapped in favor of Controller Pak saves.

Attachment During the Spoiler:Spamton NEO fight in Chapter 2, the player can exploit a glitch that forces Spoiler:the yellow SOUL to fire multiple charged shots in quick succession with the Z and Enter keys, pressing one while holding down the other.

A subsequent patch chose not to remove the glitch, but rather introduce a penalizing Easter egg based on it, where Spoiler:firing six to ten charged shots with this exploit angers Spamton NEO and results in his attacks scaling up in damage with each successive use of the glitch.
Super Paper Mario

In Chapter 2-3: Breaking the Bank, it is possible to work off your debt of one million Rubees without finding Slim and stealing the needed currency from the mansion's vault. Although there are no differences in the stage's ending if you do this, working off the debt acts as a lengthy sequence break as traveling back to the vault after working and paying off the full debt will reveal that the counter on the vault door now displays 0, and the vault can be opened freely without entering the password to reveal that it is empty.

On the other hand, manually working to collect over 9,999,999 Rubees will result in the Rubees counter in the HUD overflowing and appearing to start back at 0 due to it only displaying seven digits, but in reality the game does register the collection of more than ten million Rubees and allows you to complete the level.
The King of Fighters XIII

The initial release of the arcade version suffered from several gameplay affecting bugs. If any of these bugs relating to Hwa Jai, Vice, and Ralf were triggered during a tournament, the player who executed them would either be disqualified or need to reposition themselves on the stage.
Mass Effect

During the course of the game, a superfan by the name of Conrad Verner approaches Commander Shepherd looking for autographs, eventually leading to him just showing up to fawn over Shepherd. Eventually, this leads to a choice of either dismissing him peacefully or aggressively. Due to a glitch, the game would incorrectly log which decision the player makes as the Renegade decision and makes Conrad act aggressively towards Shepherd over the course of Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3 ruining the chances of seeing the end of his story arc.

This was fixed in the Legendary Edition rerelease. While the decision still registers incorrectly, Conrad will apologize for his behavior in the later games and allow the player to either continue the Renegade route or shift to the Paragon route of his story.

Attachment In the top-left corner of the map to Broken Hills, four metal chests can be seen, but seemingly cannot be easily accessed. In order to reach them, go near the top-right corner of the map and click on the half-hex right between the fence and the part of the grid which you click to enter the world map, and then click the half-hex right above the fence. Your character will then briefly walk off-screen and appear on the other side of the fence, which will allow you to make your way to the chests. These chests contain the stock of all four shops in Broken Hills, which can be stolen from safely without losing Karma or affecting your Reputation.

Attachment Crocomire's tongue is a separate enemy that can be killed, but in normal gameplay it is practically impossible to do so as killing it requires the use of 83 Power Bombs (93 if the Crystal Flash is performed). Normally, the game caps off the number of Power Bombs you can have at a time to 50, with the game's speedrunning community deducing that either glitch techniques must be used to acquire more Power Bombs, or you must rely on the 4% drop rate for items dropped from Crocomire's projectiles in order to get more.
Chrono Trigger

In the DS version, it's possible to defeat the special boss Spoiler:the Dream Devourer found in Darkness at the End of Time by healing. The boss has 32000 HP; the game's HP value is a 16-signed integer (it cannot be higher than 16 bits, and one of those bits only indicates the sign of the number it represents). By using powerful magic that the boss absorbs during its second phase, it can be temporarily healed past 32767 HP (the maximum HP limit for all characters in the game), which overflows the HP counter and turns the boss's HP into a negative number. Since the boss has less than 0 HP, it will be considered "dead" and the battle will end.
Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow

The Chronomage soul allows Soma to briefly stop time. When encountering a Red Minotaur, using the soul to stop time just before the enemy can catch the axe it threw in the air will cause the axe to fall out of bounds during the pause in time. Once time starts again, the Red Minotaur will enter an animation lock and change its AI to be more aggressive, dashing towards Soma to try and uppercut him, featuring unique sprite animations that cannot be seen otherwise.
Shovel Knight

Attachment There are several zips/screen wraps and out of bounds travel spots in the game that can be performed with Shovel Knight, Plague Knight, and Specter Knight. Each Knight has the ability to perform them in different areas in different ways, with some not being intended by the developers and patched out to prevent them from happening during casual play, while others that they saw as being hard to pull off by first-time players were left in and are still used by the game's speedrunning community (as of September 2021).

Shovel Knight can perform the "Bubble Wrap" zip in the Plains of Passage by bouncing off of one of the Bubble Dragon's bubbles, causing the game's camera to try and follow Shovel Knight by pushing him through an off-screen transition into the room directly above the Bubble Dragon.

Plague Knight can perform similar harmless "Room Zips" in one area in the Iron Whale by bursting, jumping, bursting again, followed by two uses of the Staff of Surging to access a secret room with a Music Sheet, and when boarding the Flying Machine by using a combination of the Vat and Burst Jumping to skip two vertical screens and the challenges within them. In previous versions of the game, Plague Knight could preserve their momentum before entering a boss room, allowing speedrunners to set themselves up by triggering the opening dialogue to a boss fight in more advantageous spots than normal. This would be patched out later to prevent unexpected results, but still allowed a brief window for players to perform any action, including bursting forwards to bosses anyways. All characters may do any action frame perfectly after the transition, including pausing.

Specter Knight used to be able to perform a transition in the second stage of the Tower of Fate ("????" in New Game + only). Normally, Specter Knight can perform an easter egg by jumping off of a ledge in the Tower of Fate, but will not lose money and trigger a cutscene with either Dark Acolyte or Reize. However, the plane that triggers this death used to be low enough that Specter Knight could float underneath a nearby ledge precisely and use that as a screen transition to enter areas the player is not supposed to go to yet. In a later update, this plane was raised to prevent this glitch from happening, but Specter Knight does have a glitch that was intentionally left in by the developers. In the Lost City, a trick called "Lost Spaghetti can be performed in one area by having Specter Knight turn the lava into bouncy goo while he is falling in. If done right, Specter Knight should fall just below the plane where he would bounce on the goo and harmlessly phase through it into the room below, missing the death plane normally assigned to the lava.

Attachment In earlier releases of the game, Specter Knight can double jump with some complicated inputs, two walls very close together, and the use of a curio that doesn't halt his momentum. This glitch would later be patched out.

Attachment Plague Knight can achieve super speed by combining a fleet flask with a bomb burst, but only while the cheat code that enables God Mode is activated ("STQQTXVX"). This glitch can cause various softlocks due to it providing far more speed than the game expects the player to have, and can break cutscenes and lure bosses outside of their arenas.

In a 2004 interview with D (a pseudonym for one of four members of DECO [Data East Corporation] interviewed), found within the Arcade Gamer vol.1 mook (magazine/book portmanteau), he was asked how development on Outlaws of the Lost Dynasty began. He responded:

"One day our boss came in and declared, “You know what would be a big hit in China? A game based on Suikoden!” And we were off. Most of the staff was a bit perplexed, “Huh? Suikoden… why not Sangokushi (Romance of the Three Kingdoms) instead?” In any event, the development schedule was very short so it was a tough one."
No More Heroes

Attachment In the original Wii version, the river overpass in Santa Destroy has a wall underneath it with poor-enough collision detection that if you walk into it in a certain way, Travis will clip through the wall and can walk infinitely directly underneath Santa Destroy, even out of the city. This glitch was fixed in all future re-releases of the game.
Advent Rising

There are Warp Pipes that can be found within the game's first and fourth chapters that strikingly resemble the Warp Pipes from the Mario series. Upon entering either Pipe, there will be a secret room with three more Warp Pipes along with 8-bit music playing in the background, which resembles the Warp Zone from World 1-2 in Super Mario Bros. Upon entering any of the three Pipes, they will warp the player to certain chapters within the game. Furthermore, finding all six buttons within the first chapter without the use of cheat codes will reveal a rainbow bridge that resembles the Rainbow Road track from the Mario Kart series that leads to a blue Warp Pipe, which takes the player to the secret room.

The second Warp Pipe is inaccessible in the PC version due to the switch used to access it not working; whether or not this inaccessibility was an intentional choice by the developers or a glitch is unknown.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2

It is possible to get out of bounds in Temperantia into the massive barren wasteland north of the game's map. This giant stretch of land is fully rendered and has collision-detection allowing you to walk as far as you want, but no in-game events happen in this location leaving the reason to why it was included at all unknown.

Shortly after the game's release, players discovered a glitch where when a tall hockey player comes into contact with a shorter one, the shorter one will be sent flying into the stadium. Dubbed the "Hercules Check" by fans, EA later replicated it in real life with a YouTube video shortly after it was discovered.

An EA representative explained in the video that the game, as well as the "glitch" itself, was made to bring "authenticity" and "real-time physics" to the game, suggesting that the "glitch" may have been intentional.
