Spider-Man 2: Enter Electro
1
Attachment Spider-Man 2 was recalled to rework anything related to the World Trade Center. Activision and Vicarious Visions feared backlash from releasing a New York-centric game featuring the Twin Towers so close to the attacks. This included renaming a level, changing dialogue, and heavily editing entire structures at key points in the game.
Super Smash Bros. Brawl

The Announcer (who also voices crazy hand and master hand) is Pat Cashman, who was the announcer for "Bill Nye, The Science Guy". He even acted in some scenes in the show.

SEGA was the second company (after Nintendo) to be in negotiation with Sony to make a new console, but the idea was eventually rejected by SEGA. It was confirmed by Tom Kalinske (an employee of SEGA) that the console specs SEGA had proposed were used for the PlayStation. It was also the technical achievements of SEGA's "Virtua Fighter" that made Sony focus on 3D rather than 2D. SEGA essentially sealed their own fate in the console market by rejecting the plans and inspiring Sony to focus on 3D.
Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Complete
1
Attachment In the English version of Lunar 2, there's an Easter egg in place of a glitch seen in the Japanese version. In the first boss fight, if Hiro and Gwyn die at a point that prevents the boss from reaching Lucia, the fight will never end, as the boss cannot kill the last party member. If the same conditions are met in the English version, a cute and tiny character called Ruby that mostly just flies around in the background , will one hit kill the boss.
Halo: Combat Evolved
1
During Halo's first European press tour, the demo computer blew up (there was literally smoke). Joe staten, lead writer and cinematics director, remembers it well:
"Having no computer made our first demo go, er, poorly. 'Imagine if you will, there's this green guy called Master Chief, and he's fighting against some purple space aliens called the Covenant.' Cool, huh?"

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening
1
If the player names their character "ZELDA" in all capital letters ("LOLO" in the French release; "ぜるだ" in the Japanese release) they are treated to a salsa remix of the game's main theme. This could also be a nod to the original The Legend of Zelda on the NES, where entering the name "ZELDA" on the second save slot results in the game starting on the second quest immediately.
1
Attachment There are at least two cases of art plagiarized from deviantart.com appearing in Sonic games. A piece of art of Sonia was mistakenly added to Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing, and some fanart that was made for a Sonic and the Black Knight contest turned out to be a replica of someone else's artwork. Sega apologized both times.
Franchise: Pokémon

There's an old Japanese idiom that says, "A duck comes along carrying a leek". It means a happy convenience, as duck with leek is a popular meal. The Pokemon Farfetch'd is based on this saying. The anime also states they are rare due to them being delicious. It seems that Farfetch'd were designed to be eaten from the very beginning. Any notion of them being used as food was later toned down or dropped. Along with the word "leek", which is now called a stick or a stalk.
Deus Ex: Human Revolution
1
Attachment The drop ship used to get around has the call letters "B-EE 008" on the side, but in the prerendered cutscenes (That were presumably made earlier in the game's development) the designation is "800 B-EE". It seems this was changed due to the fairly strong representation of the number 8 as a "B", meaning 800 B-EE would be pronounced "Boobie".
Mega Man 7
1
Attachment During the intro sequence, Dr. Wily is mostly covered by other graphics. Extracting his sprite from the game will show that he has distinct breasts. The orientation of his shoulders and arms means they couldn't be pectoral muscles. This could simple be poor rendering by the artist but given the precise nature of pixel art, it is more likely be intentional or possibly a joke by the developers.
Donkey Kong Country Returns

In 2010, UK video game retailers "Game" and "Gamestation" created a promotional offer for the release of the game, where the first 20 customers at select stores could trade in actual bananas for a copy of the game.
Franchise: Animal Crossing
1
K.K. Slider is based on the game's sound designer Kazumi Totaka. K.K. Slider's Japanese name "Totakeke" is taken from the fact that in Japan, last names are written first, so it would be Totaka Kazumi. That can be shortened to "Totaka K" very similar to "Totakeke". Totaka has also hidden music in every Animal Crossing game, and at least twelve other games. People now search for the hidden music in his games, which is known as "Totaka's Song".
Company: Epic Games
1
Attachment Former Design Director, Cliff Bleszinski, was in the first issue of Nintendo Power. His name (misspelled as Blezinski) appeared at the top of a list of high scores in Super Mario Bros., with a score of 9,999,950.

Metal Gear Solid

Attachment Christopher Randolph, the voice of Otacon, actually first auditioned for the role of Solid Snake. The producers didn't think that Randolph fit, but instead wanted him to try auditioning as Otacon, as Randolph looked almost identical to Otacon's concept art at the time.
Franchise: Assassin's Creed
1
In every Assassin's Creed game, the main characters you assassinate were real people, and the time and location of their death is accurate.
Company: Nintendo
1
In the 1960's, Nintendo opened a "Love Hotel", which is a type of short stay hotel operated primarily for the purpose of allowing couples privacy for sexual activities.
Fallout 2
1
Attachment There is a special encounter that consists of a group of "Unwashed Villagers" fighting a character named "The Grim Reaper". This is a real world reference; one of the first fallout communities ever was called "The Unwashed Village Community" and this encounter is based off them. The people who you find in this encounter are members from the community, and actually fought a spammer name "Grim Reaper" who plagued the community for a long time, and was seen as an evil rival to the Unwashed Village Community.
Duke Nukem
1
Attachment Duke Nukem was temporarily renamed to Duke Nukum due to a concern that he shared the same name as a villain in the 90s cartoon "Captain Planet and the Planeteers". He was renamed back to Duke Nukem after it was confirmed that the Captain Planet show held no copyright to the name.
