It's possible for Tails to drown in the Hero Chao garden. If he stands in the deep water for 20 seconds or so, a countdown will begin and he will start to drown. This does not deplete the player's lives, and only works with Tails. This does not work in the GameCube installment as the water is not as deep.

Attachment During the final cutscene in Sonic Colors, the player is given a glimpse of Tails' computer. There are three sets of hexadecimal numbers, and Tails translates the first two. The bottom set, when interpreted as Shift-JIS encoded text, translates to the English letters "If you can read this you're a geek!".

Attachment Before release, the developers accepted submissions for names for the game's randomly-generated characters, a decision they later regretted. One of the submitted names was that of Anita Sarkeesian, author of the video blog "Feminist Frequency", but her name was removed when a fan told the developer that her name was used for a stripper.

Attachment The enemy "Starfish" is a reference to Starfy of the Legendary Starfy series. The enemy bio states that he is rumored to be a prince of a kingdom, which Starfy is, and all of the Starfish's sprites are Starfy's with sunglasses added on.

Attachment In preparation for Sonic Adventure, Sonic Team conducted a trip to Central and South America. This was done because none of the developers had ever seen environments like ruins and jungles, and the team wanted to make a realistic world for the game. Some of the pictures they had taken were used as textures for the game. Tails' Sand Hill sub game was even inspired by people boarding on sand dunes in Ica, Peru.

Attachment Link was able to ride Epona into Hyrule Castle Town during later beta-builds of the game. This can be seen in various pre-release trailers. Why it was removed is unknown.

Both the male and female mascots have two unused sets of sprites in the ROM's data. One set is similar to Link praying at the Desert Palace in A Link to the Past. The other is them as a bunny.
