In the Spanish version of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, one of Rawk Hawk's lines is slightly changed to "¡Los aficionadillos deberían quedarse en casa jugando Super Smash Bros. Melee!" (translation: "The weaklings should stay home playing Super Smash Bros. Melee!") after having defeated The Koopinator. In all other versions of the game "Super Smash Bros. Melee" is simply replaced with "video games".

Attachment There is an unused music track in the game of the Noki Bay theme, as if you were riding Yoshi, even though Yoshi is not in Noki Bay. Many have speculated this is because Yoshi was going to be in the level, but was removed.

According to an interview with director Lorne Lanning, Abe's stitched mouth was done because "When he was born, he was more of a crybaby...and it was something that was done to him to help the situation", and it was done before he developed consciousness, causing him to perceive the stitches as a part of him.

In the original Japanese version, if the player runs to where a key will land after defeating Bowser in the Dark World or Fire Sea, presses C-Up and looks somewhere, Mario will keep looking in that direction during the key collection cutscene.

Hideo Kojima decided to have Harry Gregson-Williams compose most of the game's soundtrack after Kojima and sound director Kazuki Muraoka watched "The Replacement Killers" in a cinema, and enjoyed the music that Williams composed for the film. They had planned to watch "Saving Private Ryan", but the line for the movie was very long.

Gregson-Williams was given limited descriptions of the music he had to compose, such as "heroic" or "stealthy" as Kojima wanted the music to be pure Gregson-Williams. Gregson-Williams was told that the limited instructions he got was due to language barriers.

Attachment There was going to be a peripheral for the Atari 2600 called the "Mindlink" that made it possible to play games with your mind. Atari said the device would allow users to "think" the movement of objects on the screen. The product however simply read electronic impulses in the forehead whenever the user moved their eyebrows, rather than actual brain waves.

Attachment After the big bar fight in the beginning of the game, if you walk over to the other side of the bar instead of following Sully, you can find a newspaper that reads, "Scientists are still struggling to understand deadly fungus." This is referencing the fungal infection in the game "The Last of Us." This easter egg was planned to be removed by the development team before the game was shipped (as they were not planning to reveal the game until much later) but forgot about it and released the game with the easter egg still in.
