Attachment One of Peach's Castle's hazards is a bumper, which is mostly used as an item. Coincidently, this is the first stage to use an item as a hazard, and have a hazard outside of its own universe; Peach's Castle is from Mario and the Bumper is from Super Smash Bros.

Tameem stated in an interview that he did not intend for Dante to look like him, as he explained that Dante is "a decade and a half younger than me, way better looking... The only thing he's got is black hair. And he's male. I didn't design the character. I didn't go to our designers and say, 'I think it's a really good idea if we make the new Dante look like me, because I want to be in the game.' They'd laugh at me. They'd throw me out the window."

The oil-drilling project in New Austin named Plainview is likely a reference to the character Daniel Plainview, played by Daniel-Day Lewis in the 2007 film There Will Be Blood. The character is, appropriately, a ruthless oil baron and tycoon operating in the South-Western United States in the opening decades of the 20th century. The foreman's building in Red Dead Redemption matches the one used in the film, and the man often found working at his desk in the office bears a striking similarity to Plainview himself.
