In the "Ice Scream" level of Rocko's Modern Life: Spunky's Dangerous Day, Earl the Dog can be found as an enemy in the Bigheads' house. The game was released a year before the airing of the Rocko's Modern Life episode "Frog's Best Friend", where Earl was adopted by Bev.

In the manual for Rocko's Modern Life: Spunky's Dangerous Day, it is mentioned that Spunky is idiotic because a TV set dropped on his head when he was a puppy. This is not mentioned in any episode of Rocko's Modern Life, but is a reference to a real-life incident from Rocko creator Joe Murray's childhood, which is also referenced in the series' opening titles.
