Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
1
Judging by an unused file in the game data, the mission "No Russian" was originally going to take place in a real-life location: Domodedovo Int'l Airport in Moscow. It was probably changed to a fictional one in order to avoid further controversy.
Chrono Trigger
1
Massato Kato stated in a Chrono Trigger Ultimania interview that he and Yuji Horii intended for Crono Spoiler:to stay dead after the Ocean Palace scenario. The party would have to then retrieve a version of Crono pre-dating the Millennial Fair to complete the quest, and then return him to his home time, Spoiler:bitter-sweetly knowing he would go on to die at the Ocean Palace. Square deemed this too depressing and had them write the clone plot device to save him.
Gunvalkyrie
1
The game was originally designed for the Sega Dreamcast. Beta footage still exists showing some gameplay and several bosses from this period of development.
Grand Theft Auto IV
1
The setting of the game was originally going to be Liberty State, rather than just Liberty City, and it would have included countryside surrounding Liberty City, mountains based on the Adirondacks and Catskills, and possibly The Caraways.
Final Fantasy II
1
Attachment The Moogle was initially created for Final Fantasy II as a race called クライオン (Kuraion, lit. "Clion") that lived in cold regions, but they were scrapped along with several other races. Their sprite and race details became the Beaver race in the finished game.
Double Dragon Advance
1
A lot of content planned for the game was cut during development, including a playable prologue, additional cutscenes, improved enemy AI, lots of weapons and special moves, "Marian's Escape" mode in which the player would play as Marian escaping from her captors, "Renegade Abobo" mode in which the player could play as Abobo helping Marian escape, and the three main characters from Combatribes being playable in Survival Mode. In addition, Marian would have appeared in Survival Mode after every 20 beaten enemies to refill some of the player's health.
Double Dragon Advance
1
Attachment According to Muneki Ebinuma, the game's planner, the developers took a lot of influences from Bruce Lee's movies to the game. One of the most notable is the cover and promo art being an imitation of the cover art for Lee's Way of the Dragon.
Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
1
Attachment Director Chihiro Fujioka and producer Shigeru Miyamoto originally considered having Mario battle using weapons and magic rather than his standard jump and hammers. They couldn't decide which style to use. They settled the matter by appearing at a special event and hearing fan responses when the two styles were announced. More fans applauded the jump and hammer option, so Fujioka chose it for the game.
Oh Shit!
2
Attachment A later publication of the game by Eurosoft features a cover taken from the book "The Howling III: Echoes" by Gary Brandner.
Shenmue
1
During the early stages of development, Shenmue featured a bicycle that could have been used to quickly transverse town.
Banjo-Kazooie
1
In an early E3 video, it shows that Banjo and Kazooie could fly at any time they wanted without the use of a flight pad. This was most likely removed to limit the amount of area the player could cover at one time.
Doom
1
Attachment In versions of Doom prior to 1.4, a room in the level "E1M4: Command Control" features a sector shaped like a swastika. According to John Romero, this is a reference to Wolfenstein 3D, an FPS previously developed by id where the protagonist fights Nazis.

"Yes, [in Commander Keen 5] there is a swastika in one of the levels, one of my levels to be exact, but I removed it shortly after the game was released because people were upset that an evil symbol was in a cute kid's game. It was a premonition of things to come, namely, Wolfenstein 3D. I also put a swastika in Doom's E1M4 as a Wolf3D reference, but I changed it later for the exact same reason."
Crash Twinsanity
1
The developer, Traveller's Tales Oxford Studios, was created specifically for the revival of the Crash Bandicoot series, with this being their first game.
Yoshi's Island DS
1
Attachment Pre-release screenshots and the game's trailer reveal that the boss, Big Guy the Stilted, would have originally been a regular Shy Guy made huge, instead of being a robotic Shy Guy (as he is missing the patches on his sprite). Another screenshot shows that a black Yoshi was going to fight the boss at one time in development.
Guitar Hero World Tour
1
Although most explicit lyrics are censored in Guitar Hero games, in the song "Antisocial" by Trust, the line "Impossible de violer cette femme pleine de vices", which translates to "Impossible to rape this woman full of vice", remains unchanged.
Mortal Kombat: Special Forces
1
Attachment Sonya Blade was supposed to be a playable character alongside Jax, and can be seen in early screenshots of the game. However, following the departure of series co-creator John Tobias, Midway rushed the game to completion and she was omitted.
Call of Duty: Black Ops II
1
Attachment There was a mode cut from the game called "Hacker". The objective would have been to disable and hack neutral A.G.R.s (Autonomous Ground Robots). Points would be earned both for hacking the A.G.R.s and killing other players, with using the A.G.R.s to kill other players rewarding the most points. The only thing that remains of this game mode, however, is a cut menu icon.
Franchise: Pokémon
1
Empoleon is approximately the same height as its namesake, Napoleon Bonaparte.
Pokémon Snap
1
Several of the Pokémon in the game retained their Japanese voices. Because the English voice clips were drawn from the anime, and those Pokémon had not yet appeared in the English dub, voice actors had not yet been chosen for them.
Pokémon Snap
1
Originally, the game was developed as a non-Pokémon game in which the player simply took photos, with no Pokémon at all. When the motivation for the game became unclear, it was transformed into a Pokémon game.
