The main antagonist of EarthBound, an alien known as "Giygas", was made by Shigesato Itoi and described as "a living being that deserves love." While the character first debuted with a different design as the final boss of Mother, Giygas' appearance in EarthBound was inspired by a childhood incident where Itoi accidentally walked into the wrong movie at a theatre and watched the 1957 Japanese horror film "Kenpei to Barabara Shibijin". Itoi was traumatized by the film, where he confused a lovemaking scene that ends in murder as a rape scene. He says it had a "sense of terror having atrocity and eroticism side-by-side, and that's what Giygas's lines at the end are":

It was confirmed by Tom Kalinske (an employee of SEGA) that the console specs SEGA had proposed were used for the PlayStation. It was also the technical achievements of SEGA's "Virtua Fighter" that made Sony focus on 3D rather than 2D. SEGA essentially sealed their own fate in the console market by rejecting the plans and inspiring Sony to focus on 3D.

A piece of art of Sonia was mistakenly added to Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing, and some fanart that was made for a Sonic and the Black Knight contest turned out to be a replica of someone else's artwork. There's an old Japanese idiom that says, "A duck comes along carrying a leek". It means a happy convenience, as duck with leek is a popular meal. The Pokemon Farfetch'd is based on this saying. The anime also states they are rare due to them being delicious. It seems that Farfetch'd were designed to be eaten from the very beginning. Any notion of them being used as food was later toned down or dropped. Along with the word "leek", which is now called a stick or a stalk.

K.K. Slider is based on the game's sound designer Kazumi Totaka. K.K. Slider's Japanese name "Totakeke" is taken from the fact that in Japan, last names are written first, so it would be Totaka Kazumi. That can be shortened to "Totaka K" very similar to "Totakeke". Totaka has also hidden music in every Animal Crossing game, and at least twelve other games. People now search for the hidden music in his games, which is known as "Totaka's Song".

Attachment There is a special encounter that consists of a group of "Unwashed Villagers" fighting a character named "The Grim Reaper". This is a real world reference; one of the first fallout communities ever was called "The Unwashed Village Community" and this encounter is based off them. The people who you find in this encounter are members from the community, and actually fought a spammer name "Grim Reaper" who plagued the community for a long time, and was seen as an evil rival to the Unwashed Village Community.

The Gyroids bear a strong resemblance to Haniwa; clay figures made for ritual use and buried with the dead. This explains why Gyroids can only be obtained by digging, and also implies that you have just dug up someone's grave. This likeness is referenced in the Japanese version of Animal Crossing: City Folk, where the auction house owner Lloid is named "Haniwa-Kun".
