Speculation has risen among fans that Serges is actually the mind of Dr. Wily transferred into a Reploid body. Some dialogue from the Japanese version has him talk about Dr. Light, X's creator, and his appearance and his tendency to rely on machines for transport and attacking resembles Dr. Wily in many ways. Keiji Inafune has never confirmed or denied the fact, and has seemed reluctant to do so, suggesting the theory could be true.

In the Japanese and non-English European versions of the game, Vivian is portrayed as in some way gender non-conforming, with the original Japanese script, like a lot of pop culture addressing gender identity at the time, being somewhat ambigious at to whether she is a transgender woman being referred to in an unflattering light, or a cisgender male crossdresser. A rough translation of the Japanese text for Vivian as a party member reads:

"カゲ三人組の一人だった　オンナのコのようで　ホントは　オトコのコ"
"One of the shadow group, Vivian appears to be a girl but is really a boy."

This was changed in the English localization to make Vivian a cisgender woman with "a bit of an inferiority complex." The Italian version of the game unambigiously portrays Vivian as transgender and proud of her identity.

Vivian: “We’ll defeat that Mario guy! ‘Cause we are ‘The three shadow sisters’!”
Marilyn: “How can you define us as ‘The three shadow sisters’? You are a man! A MAN!”
Vivian: “That’s true, you are two sisters… But I am a woman too now, and I’m proud to have turned into a woman!”
Marilyn: “Hmph. And you surely think you are more beautiful than we are, huh? You deserve a punishment for that!”

In the Japanese version of Kingdom Hearts, the Chernabog fight does not have the "Night on Bald Mountain" music. Instead the regular boss music will play. The "Night on Bald Mountain" music was added to the international release to make the scene more true to the scene from Fantasia. The music was added into the Final Mix version of the game.

The Japanese/European soundtrack for the game is different compared to the American version. An example of this would be the intro and ending songs. In the Japanese version, the intro song is "You Can Do Anything" while the ending song is "Believe In Yourself" by Cosmic Eternity. In the American version, both the intro and ending songs are "Sonic Boom" by Pastiche. Because the American version got a new soundtrack and the intro and ending FMV sequences were being re-edited to fit in time with the respective music, the game was delayed a few months.

Tetris Attack plays very differently from other Tetris games, because it started as a different game called Panel de Pon. The name and characters were changed to Tetris and the Yoshi series to be more recognizable to North Americans. Henk Rogers, the CEO of The Tetris Company, says that he regrets granting permission to Nintendo to use the Tetris name on a game that has nothing to do with Tetris.
