PaRappa the Rapper 2
subdirectory_arrow_right Pipo Saru 2001 (Game), McDonald's Original: Happy Disc (Game)
1
In Japan, McDonald's once sold demo discs of PaRappa the Rapper 2 and Ape Escape 2001 to promote the games in Japan. The PaRappa demo reskinned the Toasty Buns stage to take place in a McDonald's, while the Ape Escape demo included the first 2 and a half stages, added McDonald's buildings and blimps to the level backgrounds, and added McDonald's food as collectible items - it also included a bonus video of Japanese celebrity Papaya Suzuki exploring New York with a man in a Pipo Monkey mascot costume.
Um Jammer Lammy
subdirectory_arrow_right Um Jammer Lammy Now (Game)
1
There are two versions of the 6th stage. In the Japanese and PAL versions of the game, the stage takes place in hell. In the American version, the stage instead takes place on a volcanic island. Both stages have different graphics for Lammy, a different intro cutscene, and a slight change in lyrics in the first stage to remove any references to hell or the devil. The Japan-exclusive Um Jammer Lammy NOW! retains the island plot from the US release.
The Misadventures of Tron Bonne
1
Attachment Two items which were available in the Japanese version but were made unavailable in the Western release were the Beauty Book and Cannon which were to be given to Servbot #38. This was because they were both related to the PocketStation peripheral which wasn't released outside of Japan. Both items can be unlocked in the western version using a cheat device, however Servebot #38's dialogue will remain the same unlike in the Japanese version.
Bubble Bobble
2
Attachment In arcade game's code are a number of slot machine icons, possibly intended for use in a bonus round that was never made.
Persona 3
1
In the PS2 update, Persona 3: FES, in the chapter "The Answer", all levels of the Abyss of Time get their names from Dante's "The Divine Comedy":
• The First Door, Malebolge, is the level where people who commit fraud are punished.
• The Second Door, Cocytus, is the lowest level of hell divided into for regions (the next four) where people who commit the sin of betrayal are punished.
• The Third Door, Caina, named after the Bible's Cain, is where people who betrayed family dwell.
• The Fourth Door, Antenora, named after Antenor from Homer's "The Iliad", is where people who betrayed their country dwell.
• The Fifth Door, Ptolomea, named after Ptolemy, governor of Jericho from the Bible who killed his guests, is where people who betrayed guests dwell.
• The Sixth Door, Judecca, named after Judas Iscariot also from the Bible, is where people who betray masters or benefactors dwell.
• The Seventh Door, Empyrean, is named after the the highest level of Heaven.
The Misadventures of Tron Bonne

Attachment In the Japanese release, there are four mini-games available to play through the use of the PocketStation peripheral, a special LCD memory card device with PDA features not released outside of Japan. However, using a GameShark device in the western version, you can unlock the PocketBot menu in the Gesellschaft's HQ. This would perhaps suggest that the device was at one point planned for a western release.
Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City
1
Attachment In the PC version of the game, there are a number of unfinished textures and loading screens from Star Wars: Battlefront 3. It was rumored that Slant Six Games was developing Battlefront 3 before it was ultimately cancelled.
Jetpack Joyride
1
Attachment In the PS3 and Vita ports of Jetpack Joyride, there is a trophy titled "For Science". As the trophy image resembles the Aperture Science logo, this is likely a reference to the Portal series.
Sonic CD
1
In the XBLA/PSN version, the achievement for time travelling for the first time is called "88 Miles Per Hour", a reference to Back to the Future.
Super Smash Bros. Melee
1
Attachment Changing the language to Japanese on an English version of the game results in the Ice Climbers being called simply "Ice Climber" as Japanese does not differentiate between singular and plural written words in the way English does.
Mario Kart: Double Dash!!
1
Attachment There's an error on both the PAL and US box art of Mario Kart: Double Dash which displays the "L" on Luigi's cap as being backwards.
Art of Fighting
1
Attachment If a player finishes off King with a special or super move in round two, it will shred his shirt, revealing that he is female. This was removed from the SNES version.
Mega Man 7
1
In Shade Man's stage, right before you fight him, you will encounter Bass. In the SNES version he says "Damn!", while in the Anniversary Collection, it was changed to "Darn!". This was most likely done to avoid a Teen rating for the game (as the E10+ rating had not been made at the time of the original release).
Final Fight
subdirectory_arrow_right Final Fight Guy (Game)
1
The SNES version is missing the character of Guy. A later version of the game was released called Final Fight Guy, which replaced Cody with Guy and made up a new story to explain Cody's absence to the game. The game was sold in stores in Japan and was a rental only at Blockbuster in America.
Dragon Spirit: The New Legend
1
Attachment In the Japanese version of Dragon Spirit: The New Legend, if the player presses "select" 20 times during the good ending in which Iris is on top of the dragon's head, they will be able to lift her skirt up.

The code was removed from the international release, but the upskirt sprite graphic still remains inside the ROM.
The Guy Game
1
One of the girls who appeared topless in The Guy Game was 17 years old at the time of development, making the game illegal to sell in territories where the age of consent is 18. However, this did not come to light until four months after the game's release, when the same girl sued the game's developers Topheavy Studios, Gathering of Developers (a subsidiary of 2K Games' owner Take Two Interactive which included Topheavy Studios), Microsoft and Sony (on which the game was released for the Xbox and PlayStation 2), as she was not informed that the footage of her would be used in-game and on the game's promotional website. A Texas county judge granted a temporary injunction against the production of copies of the game until her voice, name and image were removed from the game entirely.

The following year, Topheavy Studios released a DVD version of the game with additional content not featured in the original game titled "The Guy Game: Game Over". They appeared to take the controversy in stride, stating on the game's store page:

"The rumors are true! The most controversial video game ever created - The Guy Game - is no longer available!"

Mario's Game Gallery
1
Attachment Mario's Game Gallery was re-released in 1998 as "Mario's FUNdamentals", presumably to appear more akin to previous Mario learning games. Stepping Stone had helped to develop this version with Charles Martinet recording some new minor dialogue.
Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back
1
Attachment According to Jason Rubin, in the Japanese version of the game, a death animation of Crash being crushed and left with his head and feet was replaced. This was because the animation reminded Sony Japan of a serial killer on the loose in Japan who decapitated the victims and left their head with their shoes.

...we would always release a Japanese specific build. Whether it was giving Aku Aku pop up text instructions, or replace a Crash smashing "death" that reminded them of the severed head and shoes left by a serial killer that was loose in Japan during Crash 2's release, we focused on Japan and fought hard for acceptance and success.
Ōkami
1
During the cutscene before the first battle against Waka, he says "Let's Rock, Baby!" This is a reference to Dante's signature phrase in Devil May Cry. Both games were created by Hideki Kamiya.
In the French verison of the game, Waka's speech translates by "Let's Rock, Baby! As a famous devil hunter will say some day!"
Waka's laser-flute's name is also named "Pillow Talk", the name of the ranking theme in Devil May Cry.
Persona 3 Portable
1
Attachment In the PSP version of the game, equipping the demon Mara will entice responses from both Elizabeth and Theodore due to its unusual appearance.
