On January 18, 2015, nearly two years after Kanye Quest 3030's release, a writeup was uploaded anonymously to Pastebin revealing the existence of an Easter egg encountered via a task force member who, when spoken to, asks Kanye what he wishes to do. Inputting "ascend" into the text box results in the player being teleported to a white room full of computer terminals, where Kanye's sprite is replaced with a blue butterfly. This is hinted at by a prior terminal which displays a partially corrupted message reading "Ascend and worship the based god."
Within the terminal room, in-game narration claims that the rest of the game was a front for a hidden puzzle contained within the area. To progress through the room, the player must input into each terminal a set of passwords that could only be found by datamining the game. The further the player proceeds, the darker the room becomes, until the player is teleported again to a featureless white room. An enemy named "JFZZJNMS" can occasionally be encountered, but he has no sprite and immediately flees upon entering battle. Eventually, the player encounters a final terminal producing a message stating that they have successfully "ascended" before asking for their private information in order to achieve "further ascension" via a two-week period of coded contact with anonymous representatives. Meanwhile, proceeding south from the start of the puzzle leads to a room containing fragments of a giant QR code; scanning the code directs the player to a website reading "Phoenix Gregory" in the Comic Sans font.
The Pastebin writeup claimed that the Easter egg was designed as a recruitment tool for Ascensionism, an alleged cult whose pseudo-Gnostic beliefs are supposedly reflected in the main game's story and themes. This appeared to be corroborated in 2016 with the release of Calypso, an apparent follow-up title featuring in-game voice mails tying in to the cult. Eventually, the game's developer Clara Hope (who released the game under the pseudonym "Phenix") came forward in 2022 to reveal that the game was actually developed as a high school senior project. The Ascensionism Easter egg was originally created as part of a separate project and was later added to Kanye Quest 3030 in an update. She revealed that it was intended as a commentary on real-world cults rather than earnestly endorsing any, and that she wrote the original Pastebin post to drum up interest.
