Super Mario 3D World
1
According to the game's Producer, Koichi Hayashida, Peach was not originally intended to be playable at the start of development, and was intended to be the damsel in distress character as she is in other Mario titles. The idea of her being playable was brought up by the game's producer, Yoshiaki Koizumi, who told the team that Peach should be playable, stating "I think she adds a lot to the sense of competition when you get in multiplayer. You can have different people choosing different characters based on their personality or whoever they like. And Princess Peach is just really a lot of fun to play!"

Miles Edgeworth's name may come from "edge of a sword", just like his Japanese surname "Mitsurugi", which contains the kanji for sword. This may be a reference to both Gregory and Miles Edgeworth having sharp minds and being "worthy" opponents for Manfred von Karma and Phoenix Wright, respectively. His first name in Japanese, "Reiji" comes from the kanji for "cleverness".

Maya Fey's Japanese given name, "Mayoi", means "true evening". When written in kana, "mayoi" means "hesitation" or "doubt". The name was apparently picked from a list of kanji that Shu Takumi liked. "Maya" was chosen as her english name because it closely resembles her Japanese name. The name Maya can either come from the Sanskrit for "illusion" or, similarly to her sister Mia's name, as a pet form of "Maria", which is itself the Latin equivalent of "Mary". "Mary" is originally from the Hebrew for "bitterness". This could be a reference to her sister's unpleasant death. Other possible meanings include: "rebelliousness" and "beloved-child".

Attachment It took more than two years to create the in-game Notre Dame cathedral. The game's senior level artist, Caroline Miousse, worked with a historian to make sure it stayed true as possible. Much of the art however in the cathedral, including the stained-glass windows, was protected under copyright law so none of it could be used and instead had provide her own interpretation. After it was complete, Miousse finally had a chance to actually visit Notre Dame.

"MOTHER", the series's Japanese title, was inspired by the John Lennon song of the same name. Series creator Shigesato Itoi chose this name because he could heavily relate to the lyrics, which deal with Lennon's experiences growing up without a father. This theme is addressed in the first two entries in the trilogy, where Ninten and Ness's fathers are unseen, appearing solely as voices on a telephone. Itoi also felt that the title "MOTHER" was especially fitting, as the series was more feminine than other RPGs.
Super Mario Galaxy
1
The idea for Super Mario Galaxy simply came from the game's producer, Shigeru Miyamoto, saying to the game's director, Yoshiaki Koizumi "Hey, can you make something with spherical worlds?" This idea became defined over a long period of time and would eventually turn into Super Mario Galaxy.

Miyamoto was known to provide vague comments and feedback that not many workers at Nintendo could completely understand and that only Koizumi was able to figure out the context for.
Adventure
1
Adventure was heavily inspired by Colossal Cave Adventure, a text-based game for many early personal computers.
Worms
1
Attachment Worms first appeared under the title "Total Wormage" at a computer expo in England. The name was parodying another popular game at the time called Total Carnage. Even the title font was similar.
Super Mario Kart
1
Development of the game began with the idea of making a two-player racing game following F-Zero, which only had a single player mode. The game's prototype originally only had a generic "guy in overalls". The decision to include Mario characters was made roughly three to four months into development after the developers decided to add Mario driving one of the karts because they were curious about how the game would look. They ultimately decided the game looked better, and thus made the game a Mario series title.
Guitar Hero: Metallica
1
The Career storyline about a band following Metallica on tour as an opening act is based off of a true story.

"There were some guys in a beat-up old van and they were following Metallica all over Europe, everywhere they went on tour. And then they wound up hanging out with the crew and the crew would feed them. And then eventually Metallica let them get up and open for them."

Full Throttle
1
Attachment One of the cars that can be found in the junkyard is modeled after a 1969 Pontiac Le Mans, a car that Tim Schafer owned during the development of Full Throttle. When Tim Schafer went out to lunch one day, the engine exploded and the car caught on fire. Later, when Schafer returned to the office, he found that Peter Chan, Lead Artist for Full Throttle, had painted the car into the game.

When the player looks at the car, Ben will say "Fire Damage. Forget about it."
The Legend of Zelda
1
Attachment While developing the game, Shigeru Miyamoto was inspired by Adventure for the Atari 2600, one of the first graphical adventure games. At one point the game was even called Adventure.
Star Wars: Rogue Squadron
1
Attachment The developers wanted to use the Nintendo 64 Expansion Pak to improve the game's graphics, however Nintendo were hesitant in allowing them and wanted to reserve the Pak to be used only with hardware peripherals. But after seeing the Expansion Pak used on Turok 2: Seeds of Evil to achieve a higher resolution, they decided to allow Factor 5 to use it for Star Wars: Rogue Squadron.
