Within the game's code are items colloquially known as "seeds" (their real names in the game's internal memory consist of garbled data) that spawn landscape objects (such as trees, rocks, or buildings) when dropped. The game uses these items to implement the layout of each randomly generated town.

Through cheating, it is possible to place these "seeds" in the player's inventory and spawn landscape features as they please, though they will not appear until the player has entered and exited a building. Placing these objects is irreversible, and it is possible to softlock or brick the game if they are dropped in excess or otherwise abused.

Attachment The only character transformation that does not appear in the regular arcade mode in any of the titles is the Super Devil, which makes the player extra powerful with a special weapon. This form can only be obtained in the Combat School mode of Metal Slug, Metal Slug 2 and Metal Slug X. Concept art of this form resembles a green demon, although all it does visually is change the character's color, making them resemble Metal Slug 3's clone enemies.

All of the regular 'Wu' characters (Zhou Yu, Taishi Ci, and Lu Xun) are fought at the Red Wall (Chi Bi) stage. In reality, only Zhou Yu participated in the actual battle.
• Zhou Yu led the Wu forces during the battle and conceived the plan to burn Cao Cao's fleet.
• In the 14th century novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Taishi Ci acted as Zhou Yu's second-in-command during part of the battle, but died shortly after while fighting Zhang Liao at He Fei. In reality, he died of illness two years before the battle.
• Lu Xun was a only minor official serving on the other side of the Wu nation at the time of the battle.

• Xiahou Dun led the defense of a vital pass to protect against a counterattack by Yuan Shao.

• Dian Wei had died 6 years before the battle took place, while protecting Cao Cao.

• Zhang Fei halted Cao Cao's army at the Changban bridge with a ferocious display.
• Guan Yu led an ambush of Cao Cao's forces to slow down their pursuit.

After the release of the game, the animal rights group PETA created a website and Flash game called "Mario Kills Tanooki." The game involves a skinless raccoon dog chasing Mario, who is wearing the suit. According to Eurogamer, Nintendo later made a statement saying:

"Mario often takes the appearance of certain animals and objects in his games. These have included a frog, a penguin, a balloon, and even a metallic version of himself. These lighthearted and whimsical transformations give Mario different abilities and make his games fun to play. The different forms that Mario takes make no statement beyond the games themselves."

PETA later stated that the game was "tongue-in-cheek", and intended to draw attention to real issues.
