Fallout 3
subdirectory_arrow_right Van Buren (Game)
1
Attachment Fallout 3 was originally being developed around the early 2000s by developer Black Isle Studios under the codename Van Buren. The game was an RPG similar to the previous installments played from a top-down view and would've used the engine from the canceled "Baldur's Gate III: The Black Hound". The game would've been set in the southwest of America and the story focused around a prisoner who escapes from prison and trys to discover why he was there in the first place and to stop a scientist named Presper from unleashing a virus to cleanse the world of non-pure blood humans. The project was canceled after Interplay had laid off the development team, however a tech demo was later leaked onto the internet.
Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's Decade Duels
1
Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's Decade Duels was pulled from the Xbox Live Marketplace twice before being released with a plus at the end of its name and new cards, features, and modes on February 12th 2013.
Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe
1
DLC was planned for the game. Quan Chi and Harley Quinn were the only ones officially confirmed. There were also hints for Kung Lao and Doomsday. Due to Midway's bankruptcy, these were never released.
Saints Row: The Third
1
The main character of Saints Row: The Third was originally going to be an undercover cop infiltrating the Saints, and the story was more choice-driven. The idea was scrapped after the first six months of development because the developers didn't think the concept felt like a Saints Row game.
The Lion King
2
Microsoft DirectX was created in response to the PC port of The Lion King. The Lion King was released on Christmas 1994, and many children tried playing the game, but it would crash when loading. A Wall Street Journal article was published about someone spending his entire Christmas evening trying to get The Lion King to work for his daughter. Even Disney's helplines were flooded with phone calls. Many developers became suspicious of Windows as a viable platform, and stuck with MS-DOS. In response, Microsoft quickly developed the first version of DirectX for the upcoming Windows 95.
Team Fortress 2
1
According to someone on the Team Fortress 2 development team, the song that was going to be playing in the Pyro's mind in the video, "Meet The Pyro," was originally going to be Tiny Tim's "Livin' in the Sunlight, Lovin' in the Moonlight." For one reason or another, the song was not used and was instead replaced with "Do You Believe in Magic" by The Lovin' Spoonful.
Franchise: Sam & Max
1
There have been two canceled games in the series. The first was an action game called Sam & Max Plunge Through Space. The game was being made for the Xbox, but was canceled before much about the game was revealed. The second game, simply known as Sam & Max: Freelance Police, made it fair into production (to the point it was even rated by the ESRB) before being canceled due to "current market place realities and underlying economic considerations." When Freelance Police was canceled, many of the employees left LucasArts to form Telltale Games so they could make episodic games.
Makai Kingdom: Chronicles of the Sacred Tome
1
Attachment Asagi was originally supposed to get the role of the main character in the planned sequel, Makai Wars. However, the game was indefinitely postponed, which has led to Asagi being a recurring character in many Nippon Ichi games, usually trying to steal the spot of the main character for herself.
Mega Man
1
Attachment During development, it was once planned the original Mega Man game would have eight Robot Masters instead of the final's six. One of these two scrapped Robot Masters was Bond Man, a robot that would have used glue as his main weapon and when acquired by Mega Man, he could temporally hold enemies in place (a gimmick that would later be used by the final game's Ice Slasher).

The PSP remake of Mega Man, "Mega Man: Powered Up" features two additional Robot Masters: Time Man and Oil Man, whom have no connection to Bond Man. There did exist plans to add Bond Man into Powered Up, but this idea was recalled to keep Bond Man's cult status.

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots

Hideo Kojima originally wanted the Beauty and the Beast Corps to be completely naked in the cut scenes. The motion capture actors were even asked to preform the motion capture nude, though this could also not be used in the game. The Beauty and the Beast Corps were, instead, given cat-suits, which could still show off their bodies without affecting the rating.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3
1
Attachment Sonic was planned to fall asleep if you wait around, but the sprite wasn't used.
Doom
1
Attachment Cacodemon's general visual design is similar to that of the Beholder, a similarly one-eyed classic Dungeons & Dragons monster (with eye stalks instead of horns). In addition, the Cacodemon was created from a cropping of a creature that appears on the cover of Manual of the Planes, a Dungeons & Dragons expansion book. The creature itself is known as an Astral Dreadnought, and was created by Jeff Easley for that book.
Franchise: Mega Man
1
Keiji Inafune, who is often called the father of Mega Man, did not actually create him. Inafune's mentor at Capcom, who was the designer of the original Mega Man, gave Inafune a basic concept of what Mega Man was supposed to look like and he was tasked to clean up the concept for use in the game. Inafune didn't get to completely design a Mega Man protagonist from scratch until Mega Man X, where he created Zero.
Manhunt 2
1
Attachment There was going to be a newspaper and dildo weapon. Only their animations, sounds and HUD icons remain.
Sonic Adventure 2

There are also several unused lines, fully voiced by the game's English cast. Notably, some of these lines hint at scenes removed from the game's Last Story, 2 of which featured the President and his secretary, the latter (as well as Amy) telling the President not to give up hope and a scene that would take place shortly after Finalhazard's defeat, where the President says that, as a child, he admired heroes like Sonic and aspired to be as heroic and beloved as him, with the Secretary offering encouragement.

Another set of lines that would have appeared during the ending credits feature Eggman declaring he'll conquer the world without anyone's help, as well as him and Tails agreeing not to hold back next time they meet.
Kingdom Hearts
1
In an early trailer for the game, there is a scene showing Riku on top of Big Ben in Neverland. This scene does not appear in the final game, nor does Riku ever go to Big Ben in any way. Despite this, it is considered canon as a cutscene in Kingdom Hearts Re:coded shows that this is where Riku and Kairi went after leaving Captain Hook's ship.
Assassin's Creed Revelations
1
Attachment Sofia, Ezio's love interest in the game, was based on the Albrecht Dürer painting "Portrait of a Young Venetian Woman," which Art Director Raphael Lacoste was very adamant about using as the basis of the character. The painting can be seen in the Memory "Portrait of a Lady," where you have to retrieve it.
Team Fortress 2
1
The model for the Engineer Robot had actually been in the game's files since the Mann vs. Machine update, but the enemy was not actually implemented until months later during the Mecha Update.
Hudson's Adventure Island
1
The game started out as a port of the arcade game Wonder Boy. Although Escape had the rights to the game, Sega owned the rights to the main characters, bosses, and names, which meant that the NES version could not be a direct port. To get around the licensing issue, Hudson Soft changed the character sprites and names to create a brand new series.
