The idea for the Blue Shell came to mind after processing limitations prevented the developers from showing all of the characters on screen at the same time. Their solution was to clear an overcrowded track with using the Blue Shell.

Have been wondering lately if this submission would be better off on the Mario Kart collection page then Mario Kart 64, since it's about an item that's been in every game since then. But then again I guess it would depend on other submissions talking about item origins in the Mario Kart series, like if they too are on the page of their respective games of introduction.
