The game features a sound test mode, though this went largely unnoticed until well over a decade after the game came out due to the obscure way in which it is accessed. You must first complete the game, watch the ending cinematic, and wait for the game to reset itself. You must then open a saved game and hold start and down while Simone finishes talking and the screen fades out. The only way to exit this mode is to reset your console.

The North American version of the game displays an incorrect border on the dialogue box, but it still functions correctly.

According to a Japanese Shining Force World Book, Jogurt/Yogurt, the helmet-wearing hamster, and his kind are "Strange creatures from the evil planet Yogurt." (Translation by O'Neill)

In an 'Shining Force Encyclopedia' interview with game's Producer/Designer Hiroyuki Takahashi, he was asked how his team came up with the Japanese title "Shining Force: The Legacy of the Gods". Takahashi stated: "We had a few different candidates for titles. The one we chose was suggested by the scenario writer. Originally, the title was simply 'Kamigami no Isan' ('Legacy of the Gods'). I’m something of a sci-fi diehard, and I read a bunch of sci-fi novels that had similar-sounding titles, like “the ___ of the ___”, so that’s why we settled on this one."

In a 1992 Famicom Tsuushin interview with the game's producer/designer Hiroyuki Takahashi, he stated that Jogurt/Yogurt was originally just a sketch character made by game's character designer Yoshihiro Tamaki. Tamaki thought the idea would be great to have a completely out-of-place character in the game's battles.

In a 1992 developer team interview featured in the Shining Force Encyclopedia, Tamaki admitted the character was created partially as a joke and before any of the official concept art had been completed. He also stated that Jogurt's face is based on the game's director Kenji Orimo.
