NES Remix originated from Super Mario 3D Land director Koichi Hayashida's desire to play classic games. He had missed out on many Famicom games as a child, and working on NES Remix gave him a chance "to go back and experience some of those titles."

Koichi Hayashida started working for Nintendo after graduating college in 1991, so there was probably no real obstacle between him and the SNES library.

Did he miss out on any Super Famicom games as well per chance? If so then that could explain why there hadn't been a SNES Remix at any point in the past 10 years.
