The game was inspired by Pokémon Snap and, to an extent, the anime of which Snap was based on. Evidence for these are how the the creatures’ names are portmanteaus of two or more words, similar to how Pokémon are named. They also say their names as cries, which both the anime and Pokémon Snap also do. The developers also cited inspiration from Ape Escape, Dark Cloud, and Viva Piñata.
