The drug "Med-X" was originally just called Morphine, but in order to get a MA15+ rating in Australia by the Office of Film and Literature Classification (OFLC) board, all references to Morphine had to be changed to "Med-X". During the time there was no higher age rating (R18+) for video games, which would have meant the game could not be sold in Australia. The reason the OFLC board didn't pass the game was because of the usage of real-life drugs.

An infinite life GameShark code increase the player's life melon count to 4, though the most you can have normally is 3. Even after disabling the code, your melon count will stay at 4. It's thought that Rare planned to implement an additional melon upgrade at Candy's shop. There is a hidden and incomplete 3D Effect function that can be unlocked from the title screen by inputting the following sequence: Select, Select, A, B, Select, Select, X, Y, Select, Select, L, R, Up. If done correctly, the HyperZone title will change from orange to red. The effect can then be toggled in-game by pressing the Select button. It appears the idea was to make use of Anaglyph 3D glasses (red/blue) for a 3D effect, but the effect was not fully implemented and ultimately abandoned.
