Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number
1
The game was banned from sale in Australia due to a scene where Spoiler:the character enters an adult film set where he can brutally kill the men and women there, with one man seen having sex with one of the women.

In response to the banning, one of the game's developers, Jonatan Soderstrom, told Australian fans to simply pirate the game if it's refused from sale in the country.

In the Amiga version of Dragon's Lair, the copy protection coder of the game left a message to crackers. The message says:

A message to crackers: Nobody wants copy protection. All it is designed to do
is give a program a fighting chance. Now we realize that there is a great
competition to see which group breaks this game first, however, if you do
break it, please consider this: If you let this game out early after release,
and there are few sales, it will be very difficult to justify followup games of
this type. Nobody benefits; not the developers, not the users, and not the
Amiga community. Please reconsider holding on for a while and not letting
the game suffer. The decision is yours.

This message apparently worked, as the Amiga version of Dragon's Lair: Escape from Singe's Castle contained an additional message from the game's copy protector Randy Linden once again asking crackers to wait to crack the game and thanking them for listening with the first game. This message reads:

Once again, a small note to pirates and crackers: I thank you very much for delaying the release of DL1,
but must once again ask you to please wait with Escape. We have tried to provide the Amiga community
with the best possible game for your money (unlike many other companies), and hope that once again
there will be enough sales into the future to support yet another game we are planning for the Amiga:
TERMINATOR! Please consider delaying your release of Escape. As more and more quality companies leave
the Amiga for the more profitable IBM, C64 and Nintendo markets, it is up to you, the users, to show
which computer is truly Visionary. Randy "Irwin" Linden

Mentioning Project M, the name of an unofficial modified version of Super Smash Bros. Brawl to reintroduce elements from Super Smash Bros. Melee, by name on any of Nintendo's Miiverse channels will trigger an automatic ban for discussing "criminal activity".
Donkey Kong
1
If the "INTEND" part of the "NINTENDO" string (the data used to display the name) is altered in anyway in the game's code, the game will freeze after approximately 4 seconds. This is a form of copyright protection used to protect the game's data.
Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!
1
Attachment An anti-piracy routine can be triggered when no SRAM is present, similar to Donkey Kong Country 2.
Company: Codemasters
1
FADE is a special anti-piracy system created by Codemasters. Instead of preventing the game from being installed or run, when it detects that the game has been pirated, it will gradually disrupt play, altering or disabling features until the game is unplayable.

FADE was first used in Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis, developed by Bohemia Interactive, who have since created their own version of FADE called DEGRADE, which they've used in games such as Take On Helicopters.
Grand Theft Auto IV
1
If a pirated copy of the game is recognized, the in-game camera will swing wildly around during play.
Serious Sam 3: BFE
1
If the game determines that it a pirated copy, a giant invincible pink scorpion monster will spawn and follow the player throughout the game, attacking them.
Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders
1
Attachment Entering the travel key code incorrectly 5 times will result in the player's character being sent to a "Pirate Jail" where they'll be given a speech about buying the game. It is impossible to progress in the game without these codes, which are included with a legitimate copy of the game.
Cross Days
1
Pirated copies of the game came with a survey which would then be posted online trying to expose the player to the public for illegally downloading it.
Michael Jackson: The Experience
1
If you are playing a pirated copy of the game on the Nintendo DS, all of the in-game audio will have vuvuzelas played over it.
Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2
1
After 30 seconds of play on a pirated copy of the game, all the player's units and buildings will spontaneously explode.
Primal Rage
1
The Primal Rage design team implemented an unusual and largely unknown security method into the arcade machine's coding that prevented the full features of the game from becoming active when emulated. Since the original programming team has since moved on to other things, they could not be reached for questioning regarding the game's security lock-outs. Those who have been contacted expressed no interest in unlocking the ROM BIOS for freeware distribution or security corrections. For these reasons, no perfect emulation of the original arcade game exists.

In the absence of these security protections, blood would be "censored" in that it would be colored a yellowish color with a brown shading. Also, fatalities could not be performed, and many special moves were not available. Another emulation problem was the player could no longer chain attacks, which greatly decreased the chance of performing a combo. These issues even affect the Midway Arcade Treasures 2 collection, which would supposedly feature an arcade perfect rendition of the game, but instead provides a censored and incomplete version.
Spyro: Year of the Dragon
1
If a user plays the game on a modified PS1 or owns a pirated copy, Zoe will mention that you are playing on a hacked copy of the game and to expect problems that would not arise on an authentic copy of the game.
Alan Wake
1
Attachment If the game detects that it is running from a pirated copy of the game, it will give Alan an eye patch with a skull and cross bones on it (representing a pirate) and the tips will encourage you to buy the game.
Game Dev Tycoon
1
The game's developers released their own cracked version of the game onto several popular torrent websites. However, playing this version of the game would result in every game you create in-game being pirated to a point of being impossible to progress after a certain point.
Pokémon HeartGold Version

If the game detects that it is being played on a flash cart or emulator, it will freeze at the beginning of a battle with the player's Pokeballs spinning constantly.
Crysis Warhead
1
Attachment Pirated versions of the game make your guns shoot chickens instead of bullets.
Batman: Arkham Asylum
1
If the game detects that it's been pirated, it will prevent Batman from using his cape to glide.

Not only does this make the game more difficult in general, this will eventually result in Batman being trapped in a room filled with poisonous gas with no way out.
EarthBound
1
Attachment EarthBound features five types of anti-piracy:

• First, it will simply check to make sure the cartridge isn't being used in a PAL console.
• Second, it will perform two SRAM checks at startup.
• Third, if the first two measures are disabled, the enemies on screen will be ramped up to ridiculous levels and you will find enemies in areas they don't belong in.
• Fourth, there's another SRAM checker that is called up six times during the game. Its purpose is unknown as of yet.
• Fifth and finally, if the game detects problems after Pokey turns off the Devil's Machine, the game will erase all of your save data and freeze, forcing you to go back to reset and find all of your work gone.
