Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl
1
Attachment Competitive players of Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl nickname Rocko's grounded neutral strong attack, "Scream!", "Joe Biden" after a mondegreen interpreting Rocko's scream of "You're fired!" (a reference to the episode Power Trip, where he gets promoted to the boss of the comic book shop he works at and becomes mad with power) as "Joe Biden!"

NASB community manager Thaddeus Crews responded to a now-deleted tweet about the mondegreen with "canon", and later posted a stock render of Rocko with the caption "Joe Biden".

Untitled Goose Game
3
Shortly after the game's release, some of the game's fans began speculating on the political leanings of the human characters, who the goose antagonizes. As many of the game's fans were left-of-center, the most common theory posited that the humans were all conservatives who voted in favor of the United Kingdom's departure from the European Union. After a Twitter user sent a tweet to the game's developer House House asking if this was the case, they denied the theory, instead stating that the game took place in an alternate timeline where Britain underwent a Marxist revolution after conservative and Euroskeptic prime minister Margaret Thatcher was chased out of office by a goose, causing the Conservative Party's "irreparable decline".

In a 2019 interview with Vulture, developers Jacob Strasser and Michael McMaster stated that this story was "a joke canonical version of the world of the game," noting that many fans responded to the explanation by expressing sympathy with the human cast. The pair additionally described the goose as "chaotic neutral" (an alignment from the Dungeons & Dragons franchise) and expressed flattered amusement with fans' political interpretations of the title, stating that "Anything the left can take joy in and pride in and have a bit of fun with, we love. And if it pisses off some alt-right people, then great."

Dance Dance Revolution Supernova 2
1
The arcade version of Dance Dance Revolution SuperNOVA2 was planned for release in Europe, under the name "Dancing Stage SuperNOVA2". However, due to Sony's refusal to import the original Japanese PlayStation 2 into European territories (primarily to hinder third-party companies from modifying them to play unauthorized imported games from other regions), all releases and cabinet upgrades were cancelled. The reason why this import ban affected an arcade game like DDR SuperNOVA2 is because BEMANI Python 2, the hardware SuperNOVA2 ran on, was simply a retail PlayStation 2 with added I/O boards. While Europe did receive a PlayStation 2 Dancing Stage title under the Dancing Stage SuperNOVA2 name, it was nothing more than a stripped-down version of the North American PlayStation 2 SuperNOVA2 CS game, with one new license and most of the North American licenses removed.

Alfred Chicken
4
Attachment In 1993, Alfred Chicken publisher Mindscape attempted a publicity stunt by having Alfred Chicken run for a seat in the UK Parliament in the 1993 Christchurch, Dorset by-election, having an actor in an Alfred Chicken costume appear at the British House of Commons constituency of Christchurch as votes were read out. The Alfred Chicken Party ranked at second last with 18 votes, exceeding the Rainbow Alliance (a party intent on abolishing Parliament) by 2 votes. The Alfred Chicken Party was cited - alongside the "Buy The Daily Sport Party" - years later by the Liberal Democrats as a reason for increasing the number of signatures required for a party to get on a ballot.
Company: Scottgames

Attachment Scott Cawthon retired from game development in 2021 after it was discovered that he had donated thousands of dollars to anti-LGBTQ+ Republican political candidates. Cawthon posted a message to his fans on his website stating:

"I've had a blessed, fulfilling, and rich career. I've been shown great kindness and I've tried to show great kindness in return. I've tried to make some good games (let the debate ensue), and I've witnessed the creation of possibly the most creative and talented fanbase on the planet. [...] I realize that I miss a lot of things that I got to focus on before FNaF became such a success. I miss making games for my kids, I miss doing it just for fun, and I miss making RPGs even though I stink at it. All of this to say that I am retiring."

He also stated that he would be choosing someone that he trusts to take over the FNaF franchise. Cawthon later removed this message from his website, has not announced a successor for the franchise, and appears to still have complete control over it. In 2023, Cawthon released the first game since announcing his retirement, Freddy in Space 3: Chica in Space, as a supposed tie-in to the "Five Nights at Freddy's" movie from that year.

Pokémon Ruby Version
subdirectory_arrow_right Pokémon Sapphire Version (Game), Pokémon Emerald Version (Game)
1
Attachment The games' most prominent subplot focuses on the conflict between Team Aqua and Team Magma in their efforts to gain control of the legendary Pokémon Kyogre and Groudon to change the climate in response to the effect of humans on the environment in order to create expanded environments for sea and land Pokémon respectively. Although it has not been confirmed by the developers, this subplot may have drawn direct inspiration from a real-life controversy that was a prominent issue in Japan at the time of the games' development and continues to be. The Isahaya Bay land reclamation project on the Japanese island of Kyūshū, which the Hoenn region is based on, aimed to expand the available farmland in one of Japan's last wetland habitats. This lead to fierce political conflict from environmentalists who argued that the project would cause long-term damage to the wetlands and the marine ecosystem of the area through agricultural runoff released into the sea, and from reclamation activists who argued that Kyūshū needed the land as Japan has very little arable land already and needs to produce enough food to feed its increasing population and keep up with rapid industrialization. The concept of Team Aqua and Team Magma draw striking parallels to each side of this issue (i.e. reclaiming land where there used to be sea and protesting to reclaim sea where there is now land) while being written as cultic villains akin to Team Rocket from past games without distinct arguments to their positions. This causes these parallels to be obscured and emphasizes the personal gain of expanding, or reducing land for the sake of certain land, or sea Pokémon to be won out from the conflict with little to no regard for humanity.

In Pokémon Emerald, the unified story featuring Kyogre and Groudon both being pacified by the presence of Rayquaza, a Pokémon heralding from the sky which in many religions and mythologies is where powerful gods and deities live, hints that a divine compromise between civilization and nature is the necessary solution, with how Hoenn is presented in the final game through the coexistence of different environments, humans and Pokémon being the result. This suggests that the preservation of Isahaya Bay while allowing for land reclamation elsewhere is the compromise this subplot is trying to get across.
Liyla and the Shadows of War
1
Liyla and The Shadows of War was originally rejected for iOS devices because Apple didn't think the app's strong political themes would be appropriate in the "Games" category. Apple then suggested that developer Rasheed Abueideh re-categorize the game as a "News" or "Reference" app. Apple rescinded this decision a week later after a public outcry, and the game is now available on iOS devices under the "Games" category.
