The song "Icicle" features garbled vocal samples. These samples are actually audio from South Park, more specifically the episode "Mecha-Streisand".

An English version of Giftpia was shown off at E3 2003, leading many to believe it was slated for a North American release. However, this never came to pass, as Nintendo of America deemed it to be too "trippy" for US audiences. Designer Sayoko Yokote expressed hope in 2006 that the game could be localized by a company other than Nintendo, but the game remained Japan-exclusive.
