Franchise: Wario
1
It's easy to assume that Wario's name was based on turning the M in Mario's name upside down, but this isn't entirely the case. The Japanese word for 'bad' is 'warui', so Wario is actually a shortened version of 'Warui Mario' (Bad Mario). This is also the case for Waluigi (Bad Luigi), and works even better in Japan, where his name is pronounced 'Waruigi'.

In the game, 'Taunting' is used to get an enemy's attention, and 'Feign Death' tricks enemies into ignoring you.

When asked about the name, Miyamoto said, "Zelda was the name of the wife of the famous novelist Francis Scott Fitzgerald. She was a famous and beautiful woman from all accounts, and I liked the sound of her name. So I took the liberty of using her name for the very first Zelda title."
Collection: Rock Band
1
When Harmonix was secretly developing the Rock Band Network (a network that allows artists to make their music playable in Rock Band games), they gave it the unofficial code name "Rock Band: Nickelback" to avoid attracting attention, naming it after the post-grunge band of the same name. They thought adding "Nickelback" to the title would deflect any and all curiosity due to the extreme negative reception and disinterest to their music on the Internet, ensuring it wouldn't be leaked.
