Zero Racers

Attachment An F-Zero game for the Virtual Boy titled "Zero Racers" was in development with a projected release for Fall of 1996. The game would have featured four new racers: Falcon, Stingray, Goose and Origammy; which resembled the F-Zero regulars the Blue Falcon, Fire Stingray and Wild Goose respectively, apart from the Origammy which was an original vehicle. The game was canceled most likely due to poor sales of the Virtual Boy console.
The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages

Attachment There was a third game in the works titled "The Legend of Zelda: Mystical Seed of Courage." The name comes from the original titles of Oracle of Seasons (Mystical Seed of Power) and Oracle of Ages (Mystical Seed of Wisdom). The game was meant to come out several months after its prequels to form a trilogy (like the triforce), but was scrapped after complications arose with linking the three games together.

Nintendo was originally going to release a home computer in place of the NES. Known as the Advanced Video System, or the AVS, it was going to be a home computer with a heavy gaming twist.
Franchise: Mega Man

Attachment There were plans for a first-person shooter in the Mega Man universe. Codenamed "Maverick Hunter", it was being developed by Armature Studio and was cancelled after six months of development during the first half of 2010.
Final Fantasy V

The reason the original Final Fantasy V was never released internationally was because, as translator Ted Woolsey stated in a 1994 interview, "it's just not accessible enough to the average gamer". Plans were made to release the game in 1995 as Final Fantasy Extreme, targeting it at "the more experienced gamers who loved the complex character building". For unknown reasons, however, Final Fantasy Extreme never materialized.
Franchise: Resident Evil

Attachment There was an unreleased spinoff to the series called 'Resident Evil Dash'. It was supposed to be released between the first and second games, but got cancelled so it wouldn't hinder the development of Resident Evil 2. Ironically, that game ended up being delayed anyway. They ditched the original plans and started from scratch, which prompted them to appease fans by releasing a Resident Evil 2 demo disc with the Director's Cut version of Resident Evil 1. Dash was set 3 years after the first game in the ruins of the Spencer Mansion.
Prince of Persia 2: The Shadow and the Flame

Attachment There was once a Genesis port planned for release, but it was canceled for unknown reasons. A ROM of the game can still be found online.
Mother 3

Attachment Mother 3 was originally going to be a 3D game for the Nintendo 64 DD add-on. Dubbed "Earthbound 64" by fans, the game was delayed several times due to the little experience the development team had with 3D games. The game would have possibly utilized the N64 DD's features and would also possibly use Mario Artist to create new in-game character faces. The Rumble Pak was also considered to be used during battle sequences. Due to the commercial failure of the N64 DD, the game was canceled but later recreated for the Game Boy Advance.
Metroid II: Return of Samus

Attachment There was a rumored Game Boy Color port of the game called "Metroid II: Return of Samus DX" featured once in the German gaming magazine "Club Nintendo" that was claimed to make use of the Game Boy Color's vast color-palette. However, the game never released and its existence has been contested by a testimony from Nintendo of America translator Dan Owsen who was unaware of plans for the port, suggesting that the screenshot featured in the magazine may be a mock-up.
Company: Taito

Taito was planning to release a console of their own. Dubbed the WoWoW, it was shown at the Tokyo Game Show in 1992. It would've been a 16-bit, CD-based console with similar capabilities to Taito's arcade machines. Inventively, it would've also received games by satellite. After a few appearances, it was mysteriously dropped, never released to the public.
Mega Man Network Transmission

Attachment According to Yuji Ishihara, there was once a GameCube controller that looked like a PET that was meant to be released with the game. Concept art for the controller can be found in the book Mega Man Battle Network Official Complete Works.
Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City

Attachment In the PC version of the game, there are a number of unfinished textures and loading screens from Star Wars: Battlefront 3. It was rumored that Slant Six Games was developing Battlefront 3 before it was ultimately cancelled.
SoulCalibur

This is the only game in the Soul Calibur series to not be released on a PlayStation console. A PlayStation version was considered, but the console lacked the processing power to animate Ivy's whip-like sword without distortion problems.
Donkey Kong Country

Attachment With the success of Donkey Kong Country, Nintendo gave Rare permission for a sequel on the Virtual Boy. This happened just after the launch of the Virtual Boy and was only in the early planning stages for a matter of weeks before it was cancelled due to lack of sales of the Virtual Boy console.
Kameo: Elements of Power

Kameo started out as a Gamecube game, and was meant to be a launch title. During the development, Microsoft bought Rare, and the title was moved over to the Xbox. After many delays, the title was moved to the Xbox 360 as an exclusive.

Attachment Diablo was at one point also being developed for the Game Boy but was later canceled for unknown reasons. A tech demo was produced but had never been shown to the public.
South Park

A direct sequel had been announced by Acclaim's CEO, Greg Fischbach, and was intended to be released sometime in early 2000. However the game was never released and any further details about it never surfaced.
Saints Row: Money Shot

There was originally going to be another game in the Saints Row series known as Saints Row: Money Shot. It was going to be connected with (the then upcoming) Saints Row 3 and unlock things for it. It was cancelled however, and the content was released as DLC instead. A beta was found online a few years later, though it requires a JTAG hacked Xbox 360 to play.

The Nintendo 64DD is a disc drive add-on for the Nintendo 64 that was announced on the Shoshinkai game show (Space World Today) in Japan, talked about by Shigeru Miyamoto and released in Japan in 1999. It was never available outside of Japan.
Collection: Leisure Suit Larry

A Leisure Suit Larry 4 was once in production. According to Al Lowe, the game was meant to be the first multiplayer online adventure game, and was going to use a new way to play the game. However, there were many problems with the technology they had at the time, so the game was shelved. The ending to Leisure Suit Larry 3 was also very definite and had almost no way to lead to another game. Because of both of these reasons, the developers decided to skip 4 and go straight to 5 to be able to do what ever they wanted with it. The 4th game is now considered an in-joke among fans and developers.
