Later in development, Kyle decided not to have his likeness in the game. His appearance was changed into a skeleton and his dialogue was replaced. The new character is a reference to the Angry Video Game Nerd's Ikari Wars review, where it's revealed that Kyle died, but is revived later in the episode.

The original sprite of Kyle can still be seen on the game's box art.

Sol Badguy is partially based off of Freddie Mercury, former frontman for the rock band Queen. This includes his name as a nod to Mercury's nickname "Mr. Bad Guy," as well as his leitmotif in the games being called "Keep Yourself Alive," sharing its name with the first song from Queen's debut album. Sol's headband is also inscribed with the words "Rock You," a reference to Queen's song "We Will Rock You."

According to Sol's official bio, his main hobby is listening to Queen, and his favourite album is "Sheer Heart Attack." This may also tie in to his role as Daisuke Ishiwatari's alter ego, as Ishiwatari admits to being a fan of Queen.

Ragna the Bloodedge's name is derived from "Ragnarök," a Norse term commonly used to describe the end of the world. This could tie into Ragna's ability to channel the Black Beast, which nearly caused the end of the world in BlazBlue's timeline.

It may also be a reference to the legendary Ragnar Lodbrok, a man who slayed the serpent Jörmungandr. This mirrors the relationship between Ragna and series antagonist Yūki Terumi, who has a snake motif for his attacks.

The Last of Us Part I
1
At one point during the game's development, Naughty Dog was put under pressure to change Ellie's positioning from the front of the cover art to the background.
