During the game's development, official branding for various drinks produced by The Coca-Cola Company (including Coca-Cola, Minute Maid, and Fruitopia among others) were utilized for textures upon soda vending machine props. According to artist Harry Teasley, these textures were created by his wife Yatze Mark, and Valve had contacted The Coca-Cola Company to negotiate their use in the game. As they were coming to an agreement, one of the game designers implemented the ability to break vending machines and have them spill out soda cans. When Coca-Cola learned of this, they declined to go forward with their product placement, because they did not want to encourage vandalism of their machines or "have people think you can get a ton of free sodas if you bash a Coke machine with a crowbar." Mark replaced the branding with the generic textures that appear in the final game.
