During development of PaRappa the Rapper 2, the Boxy Boy tutorials at the start of each stage were referred to as "Rodney Levels" in reference to character designer Rodney Greenblat's difficulty playing Um Jammer Lammy. Greenblat has said that Masaya Matsuura intended it as a compromise after Um Jammer Lammy proved to be too hard for the children it was aimed at, but he still wanted to implement complex button patterns.

"Spelunker taishitsu" (Eng: Constitution of a spelunker) is a Japanese idiom referring to someone who is easily injured, commonly used in sports. This originates from Spelunker, which is widely popular in Japan as a "kusoge" (Japanese for "crappy game") specifically for the protagonist's frail nature and sometimes ridiculous death conditions.

Boss Rush (Ver. SN2) is widely considered one of the hardest Challenge Courses in the Dance Dance Revolution series, if not the hardest overall. As of September 25th, 2023, there are only two recorded instances of people beating this song on original arcade hardware: first by Kaze.573 on February 14th, 2017, and second by FEFEMZ on September 28th, 2018.
