According to an "Ask the Developer" interview, there was internal debate on whether or not the remake should add a manual jump button, which was scrapped from the original version. They decided to implement it due to most modern players (such as those who played The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild) having gotten used to Link being able to jump manually. Because of this, the way the jump attack functioned was changed to have two different methods of usage: one where it functioned the same as the original, and another where it could be done by pressing the attack button while jumping. This was due to the dev team being unable to decide on which method was better.
